> 3 dayIn a world where lame reality shows now make up the majority of cable TV programming, Fake TV is a godsend because it makes no false claims about the veracity of the content you (and potential burglars) will be watching. Among the benefits: it uses far less energy than a real TV; its silent -- no babbling hosts or MAXIMUM VOLUME IMPORTANT COMMERCIAL MESSAGES; and it turns itself on at dusk and off after a preconfigured time. It also costs less than a month of cable TV or DVD rentals (assuming the usual late fees). I love Fake TV because I can set it and forget it. As far as my neighbors know, Im consuming the required amount of televised drivel every night. As far as the burglars can tell, theres an unknown number of Bros in the living room watching PPV MMA or WWE just itching to try out some of the cool moves they just saw on anyone dumb enough to enter an occupied residence. And I can surf the web in the other room without missing anything entertaining or informative. As other reviewers have doubtless advised, placement is important. Draw the curtains so outsiders see just the play of lights in the room rather than the device itself. Check the effect from outside to see if its doing what it needs to do. If it fails as a crime deterrent, I can always use it as a quack medical device for balancing engrams or erasing unwanted chakras. I wonder if anyones interested in doing a reality show about that...

> 3 dayDisappointing purchase. The unit did not work as advertised. I used it once on a vacation and it seemed to work. But when I plugged it in again, it was completely dead. Feels like a total waste of money, unfortunately.

Greater than one weekthis really works. but only two settings. dusk plus four hours or dusk plus seven hours. seven is a little too long for early fall. but great otherwise and really bright.

> 3 dayThats great and all, but burglars hit during the day when youre at work. Not evening or night when they know most people are home.

> 3 dayWorks great! I set it to come in at dusk and as soon as it gets dark it comes on for about 7 hours. I have it in an upstairs room facing the window. After dark, from outside looks just like a tv is playing.

> 3 dayNot sure if it kept any thieves away but it sure does replicate a flickering TV. Combined with timers on lights, I think this product is clearly worth the price.

> 3 dayThey must have videod a TV to capture the color effects, random brightness changes, etc., to so accurately simululate the look of a TV. With a window shade or blinds keeping this device itself hidden out of view, the lighting from this device bouncing off the walls and/or ceiling, I was amazed. It looked exactly like a TV was playing inside.

> 3 dayThe house across the street from me was robbed this week and nothing can protect you completely but I was looking for deterrents. This device works as advertised. It took two seconds to plug it and set the switch. You can choose OFF, ON, Dusk +4 or Dusk +7. I put it in a second floor bedroom aimed it at a wall. It is bright and with the changing colors/intensity you cant tell that someone isnt watching a real TV in the house. Im getting another and will order one as a gift.

Greater than one weekVery good TV light emission simulation for such a compact unit. It comes on when the room is dark and switches off when its light. We tested it before we went on a 3-week vacation. Cannot say for sure if it alone was responsible for deterring burglaries during our absence (there has been a spate of break-ins in our neighborhood) but it didnt do any harm.Definitely a small price to pay for peace of mind.
