My Garmin Varia RTL515, Cycling Rearview Radar with Tail Light, Visual and Audible Alerts for Vehicles approaching, works as advertised. Decently priced and good battery life. A definite buy recommendation from me.

Everyone Riding Roads Should Have This! Picks Up Everything Including Faster Cyclists. I’ve Never Had A False Positive. First Few Times I Used Radar, I Thought I Was Getting Some False Positives. Come To Find Out, It Was Cars Turning Onto Another Road. Great Little Device.

I thought this light/radar was going to be nice to have, but I cant believe Ive gone so long without it. It is SO nice to know there are cars behind you without constantly looking back. Im pretty steady when looking back, but every now and then, I swerve a little bit. Either, into the lane, or into the dirt. I will not go out with out this tool. It shows on my Garmin 530 Edge, but I also have the graphic on my phone that alerts me by buzzing or chirping. Its like riding with a buddy thats constantly helping by yelling car back!

I’m a raving fan. Works far better than my bar-end mirror. And, yes, you can attach it to a saddle bag with a simple hack.

I own one and bought another for my bestie. I’ve cycled for 10+ years and am always cautious on routes that lose the shoulders. This gives me peace of mind, my Garmin reads it without issue showing me when a car is approaching from behind, how fast and how close they are. I love love this!

Ive ridden with a drop bar mirror for years, but had no idea what I was missing. I did a long ride today on mountain roads and found this radar to be great. I could not give it a higher recommendation. Just might save me from being ground up under a car.

Easy to setup and works with the Mastermind TCD display. Unit was delivered quickly and as expected.

I live/cycle in both the US and the French Alps. I decided to try a Varia because one of my French friends has one and likes being alerted when a car is approaching, when we are blasting down tiny mountain roads. I wasnt sure that Id like it because its larger than a standard rear light, and because Im a diehard Wahoo user. However, I was pleased to find that the Varia interfaces perfectly with my Wahoo Roam, it has a long (~12hr) battery life, and it points out approaching cars at a distance of 150-200 meters, long before I can hear them. I wasnt sure that Id like this thing but as someone thats been hit/hospitalized by cars (twice!) I now consider it an important safety tool.

When I first installed this on my bike it really worked pretty well. After 5 months, not so much. Even from the start, it was NEVER as substitute for looking over my shoulder, but the performance of this radar has dropped significantly in the five months I’ve owned this. It now doesn’t pickup 30-40% of the vehicles that approach from behind while cycling during the day, at night it misses well over half.

See and be seen with Varia RTL515 rearview radar with tail light. It pairs with your Edge bike computer, other Garmin device or compatible smartphone to alert you of vehicles approaching from behind up to 153 yards (140 meters) away. When used with your compatible smartphone, the Varia app helps increase your awareness with vibration alerts and more. With daylight visibility up to 1 mile, motorists will be able to see you from a distance. The radar’s compact vertical design allows for device mounting on most road-use bicycles. And peloton mode provides a low-intensity flash that is kind to other riders’ eyes when riding in a group.
