Liquitex Professional Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 237ml (8-oz), Black

Not sure how to use it to make smooth surface.

I use the clear gesso because it has tooth and a grittiness to it. I spray a tad of water with a bunch of this and I get the best surface to paint on. I cant live without this. Go for it. Doesnt disappoint!! Will buy over and over and over.

Good gesso to use weather it’s for preparing a canvas or in the actual painting itself.

I love using this black gesso for some mixed media on paper or art board. I have also used it on air dry clay. Covers white paper or clay well.

Fun! Texture! No end to creative ideas.

Great price, not going to have to buy any of this anytime soon, but if I do I marked this as my favorite.

Very very good product. The only thing you should probably know is that 16 fl oz of gesso is a lot! I used it to give three coats on a 24 x 48 canvas and there is still half bottle left. Having said that, I also use it to mix it with background colors for a non glossy finish. For e.g., the backdrop of a tree with birds. This leads to a good surface that I can easily paint my birds on rather than the mildly glossy surface of titanium white.

I used this on a 60x80 black canvas and it dried white. Im devastated that I now have to buy a large amount of black paint to fix,which is what I was trying to avoid. Also STILL need gesso, but wont use this again

Great stuff for priming canvas. Best to use a rubber rib/scraper to evenly coat the canvas and use the gesso efficiently. It generally take two applications before youre ready to paint (which is normal). I was able to prime a 42x21 canvas and barely made a dent in the gallon of gesso. I highly recommend it for any artist wanting to save money by priming their own canvas instead of buying expensive store bought canvas in a limited size range. Happy painting.
