> 3 dayI setup home automation systems for residences part time. Most setups use Alexa/Google for automation but the latest was an exclusive Apple Homekit setup. If you’re also looking to hop onto the Homekit bandwagon and eyeballing these Meross outlets as the lowest-cost option, read on. First, setting up the Meross outlet and bulbs was more of a process than competitors, like Feit and Philips. For a few devices, the setup failed initially, requiring resets (which can burn 3-10 minutes each time). After a few failed attempts, we got all Meross devices operational. 12 hours later, the Home app indicated “no response” for one of the outlets. Resetting icloud, phone, hub, etc, did not fix the problem. The outlet was once working perfectly but is now non-functional. In the router settings, we could see that the device was still connected to the 2.4Ghz wi-fi network, so something was very fishy. We went ahead and did a clean reset of all devices at this point. Then, 12 hours later, a different Meross outlet stopped working! After a few days of whack-a-mole device resets, user testing, and researching forums, we figured out the issue. The customer was using a Netgear Orbi mesh router system which uses both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands and forces a single network name (SSID) for both bands. Because the Meross devices work exclusively on 2.4Ghz networks, it gets “confused” when it sees a 5Ghz network with the same name. We spent a week experimenting with different router settings to ensure the devices remained on the 2.4Ghz band with no luck. Also, don’t bother searching for solutions to root into the router and set a different SSID – you’ll corrupt your router settings, requiring a router reset as well! If you have a Netgear Orbi router, Meross Homekit-approved products simply won’t work. I ended up getting the customer a new, high powered router to replace the mesh system – one that allows the setup of separate SSIDs for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. Viola – zero issues with all Meross devices for the past several days. While these Meross devices are technically working as designed now, I have to give 1 star because all competitor bulbs (Feit, Voc, Nanoleaf, Philips, Sylvania) do not have this problem and can seamlessly work on single-SSID mesh networks with no issues. These bulbs should work properly in all modern wi-fi setups and, if not, the manufacturer should go out if its way to indicate the incompatibilities.

07-06-2025These things worked GREAT! They have been really solid, and I love the additional button on them for manual control (it essentially acts like an on/off switch so you dont HAVE to use HomeKit / Siri / Automations to use them. I can appreciate when smart home devices dont get in the way of doing things. They should only make things easier, and thats exactly what these switches do! If you really truly only need one controllable outlet, then these are a great value and truly reliable. Having said that, Meross offers a similar product for only a few dollars more that gives you two independently controllable outlets in one, and when I saw those, I bought a bunch of them.

> 3 dayThe switch turns on and off as expected with the proprietary Meross app and allows you to remotely control outlets away from home without using the full HomeKit integration. But the biggest issue is the automated schedule that you set through the Meross app doesn’t always turn on or off the plug at the programmed times if it loses the Wi-Fi connection. If it’s on an programmed schedule, one should think it would be set to and stored on the smart plug itself so it would no longer need a wifi connection. Not sure if this is the definite cause, but it routinely misses programmed on or off times and a bit of a deal breaker for some applications

> 3 dayAfter not being able to install the plug on two separate occasions I gave it a 1 star rating; however after working with the vendor I was able to successfully install the plug. I now give it a 4 star rating.

Greater than one weekThese switches integrated relatively easily with HomeKit. Requires that you are on the 2.4Ghz wifi signal in order to connect these devices. The 2D barcode isnt in the most accessible area on the plug, so I had to scan the code and then plug in the device. The second plug that seemed to be a little more finicky so it required that it be plugged in while it was scanned in by HomeKit.

> 3 dayConstantly disconnecting. At least twice a week I have to unplug them and plug back in to reset.

Greater than one weekOverall, I love this product. However, one of my wireless plugs has hiccups occasionally and won’t respond in my Apple home hub, which is where I control my smart switches and plugs through. If I go through the Meross app it works fine though. A little frustrating but not the biggest deal. Plugs work well besides that one hiccup

> 3 dayI use Apple HomeKit as my hub, so the selection of supported devices is somewhat limited (although appears to be getting better). For Smart Plugs, I have been using Koogeek: -- I have used them for years -- I have about 10 of them I needed a few more Smart Plugs, and I was happy to see some relatively cheap options. After reading the reviews, I decided to try the Meross Smart Plug Mini. I am not disappointed. -- The price was pretty good at about $12 apiece. -- The plugs are well-built and straightforward. -- The form factor of the plugs is good. They do not cover up neighboring outlets. -- Installation was simple once I read the directions. A couple of tips: a) Make sure you install the Meross App and grant it permissions before you begin. (You will want to use the App to update the firmware of the devices.) b) Make sure to connect to your 2.4GHz band. c) Installation involves connecting to both the 2.4GHz band as well as a config network provided by the device. If you have multiple networks, make sure to turn off AutoJoin on all but the desired 2.4GHz band. d) You may have issues if your 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands share the same network name. I bought four of these plugs. After I figured out the above (which took me about 10-15 minutes), I was able to set up all four of my devices in about 10 minutes. They work great - and they can be grouped with my Koogeek switches as well. Very pleased so far. I will update this review if I experience any problems in the future, but at this point I would recommend these smart plugs.
