I just received my lens and have been snapping photographs with it. The quality of the lens and the photographs is really good. If youre a beginner in using a DSLR camera then I would recommend you experiment with a different lens to see how you can change your photographs for the better.

This is lens is very fast and quite sharp. Works well for indoor and street photography. If I have to find a negative side, it is that its not stabilised, but at that price (got it on offer) there is nothing I can complain about.

I am so very happy with this lenses ability to take low light pictures. I am able to capture moments that would be impossible with my other slow lenses. The picture with my wife and baby was taken in a nearly dark room just before the baby was put to sleep. Nikon D7200 f/1.8, 1/30 sec. ISO-25600. Yes thats a high ISO, but when i say the room was dark, I mean there were only 2 small windows both facing wooded areas, shades were shut, and it was 15 min before sunset. I could barely see in the room.

I purchased this lens without doing a lot of research since Nikon typically puts out good lens & primes are typically worry-free when it comes to barrel distortion and similar concerns due to their fixed nature. I also have the 50mm f1.8 which performs marvelously, so I assumed the 35mm would as well. This is where I was wrong. The 35mm f1.8s lens barrel distortion is one of the worst [...]. The other metrics did not make for a great lens as well. If you dont read Ken Rockwell, start. He lists the pros and cons for this sub $200 lens at [...]. Therefore, be sure to do your research and understand where this lens exceeds and fails. Yes, Capture NX2 can automatically correct the distortion...however, the excessive degree of distortion was disappointing so I will try to find a Sigma/Tamron 35mm prime for my D90.

Good for low-light scenes and portraits. It seems to have an issue with the auto-focus in low-light conditions, being slightly off. I guess its OK for the price, but if you can afford to buy a higher quality - do so.
