Safety 1st Magnetic Locking System (1 Key and 8 Locks)

> 3 dayBest child lock system ever! If I could give it ten stars, I would. Yes, its a slight pain at first when youre not used to needing a key to open the cabinets, but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature to grab the key. I abhor the traditional cabinet child locks... The flimsy little things that catch after you open it a few inches and promptly jerk the cabinet door back, crushing your fingers as well as the fingers of any small child who tries to get in the cabinet (cause every parent of a one year old needs MORE reasons for them to randomly scream). I have found that those safety locks only work until the kid either rips them off while pulling on the door with all their might or just plain figures out how they work. This system is AWESOME. When the child walks up and tries to open the cabinet, it doesnt budge. They cant stick their little fingers in it. They get none of the thrill of getting it partially open and seeing that there is fun stuff in the cabinet, making them more bent on getting it open. They get nothing. And they give up. And go dig in your plants... But still, they GIVE UP on the cabinets. And its glorious. The only downside we found is that you only get one key per set, and buying an extra key separately is kind of pricy. I kind of wish theyd give you two. But chances are that like us, most people have to buy more than one set of locks to get all the cabinets (worth it!), so you end up with at least two keys regardless. Bottom line, just buy this system, dont waste your time with the other stuff. You wont regret it.

> 3 dayThis locking system is superb. Its the only system that truly stops a child (or animal) from getting into a cabinet unless they have access to the key. Of course, if you leave the key (or a magnet) in a place where they can get it, access is a snap! So, my wife and I installed brand new kitchen cabinets, and we had, at the time (this was about a year ago), an 18 month old. He was starting to get curious about the cabinets as he got more mobile. We wanted to secure the cabinets in a way that would: 1) Not be noticeable from the outside 2) Could not be easily defeated by a child 3) Could be turned on and off as needed Enter this system. I checked a lot of them out, and this got great reviews, though the install was a little more challenging. Ordered a set (and, later, a 2nd set) to outfit the kitchen. I waited until my 18 month old was not around (think my wife took him to the park) and started on a cabinet. Since I care about my brand new cabinets, I was careful. Measure. Measure again, and mark the holes. Solid wood cabinets, so I pre-drilled a hole, and then screwed in the top bracket. Measured and checked the latch system, and then marked, pre-drilled, and screwed in the latch. Make sure you test the system right away to ensure a clean lock/unlock. Its pretty solid. Yes, if you pull really hard it is possible to pull a cabinet open, but it does take some effort. I like the fact that, because the lock is flush (if you install well), when the cabinet is closed and locked, there is no give - that makes a child lose interest in trying to open, because is does not do anything (in contrast to the ones where you open a little, push down, and then fully open). The key is just a magnet that you put in the [close] vicinity of the lock on the outside of the cabinet. I believe any decently powerful magnet would work, but these are coated in plastic and wont scratch your nice cabinets. I ordered the 8 lock/1 key system, which only gives you one key, obviously. Recommend getting a 2nd key since, if you lose it, you are stuck for a while. We put a hook high up in one of the upper cabinet doors, and hang the key from there, so we alwyas know where it is (and the little dude cant get it!) I later ordered a 2nd system to complete my kitchen, and had 3 leftover. So I took those and intalled them in on the glass doors in my family room entertainment system, so now my son cant touch the receiver buttons (if he did that, hes make sure we never heard sound again), pop out a DVD, or turn the cable box off. Keeping him out of those doors was a great use for the leftover locks, and I keep the key that came with that set hidded behind a statue in the bookcase above the doors. I love the fact that you can easily lock/unlock the system. We regularly leave one cabinet (the garbage/recycling drawer) unlocked, as we use it a lot, and when not cooking. However, our son goes through periods of curiosity about that spot. So, when he shows interest in doing something he should not in trash can, we just lock it. He quickly loses interest and goes away, and we can unlock for later use. This is a well designed, high quality product. We have been using them for over a year and (knock on wood) not lost a key. Weve had no problems with them during this time. If you want a discrete system that enables you to securely lock the cabinets, and you are not prone to losing thngs (like the required key), I highly recommend this. It may cost a little more, but you will be satisfied with what you get.

> 3 dayThese are great locks. They come with all the hardware to screw them into the cupborard. They are not evident from the outside, sometimes I forget theyre there. I do not worry about my little one getting into the cupboards. The locks are strong, even my husband wouldnt be able to get the cupboards without tearing them apart. I like that they have the unlock feature. Its just a quick flip of the switch and the cupboards open normally. Dont lose the magnetic key. Any magnet would do, but the key is very nice. I recommend picking up a spare, I have an irrational fear of locking the key in the cupboard (because be honest, who hasnt locked their keys in the car at some point in their lives.) At first we kept the key on the stainless steel microwave, but it scratched the finish. Now it lives on the spice rack. I wish these worked on my lazy susan and oven doors. I cant use them with the kitchen island either because of the configuration of the doors.

> 3 dayThis is a great product! What I love about these is the my cabinets do not open at all, not even a tiny crack, so there will be no pinched fingers and no chance of little hands getting into dangerous things. I also liked that the system is invisible, unlike the straps that go in front of the cabinets. Its nice to maintain a house that doesnt look like your little ones have completely taken over! I will admit the installation directions are not great, but I searched YouTube and there was a video posted by a customer on installation! Once you get the first one, it goes fast. It is just a matter of lining things up. Make sure you have a drill bit to pre-drill the holes (be careful not to drill all the way through your cabinet!) The part on the directions I couldnt see was which way to position the catch. The rectangular bar portion faces out, with the curved piece facing in. I installed these half way down on the cabinets because I felt like it would be a stronger hold, verses at the top. Getting used to using the magnetic key to open the doors takes some getting used to...but the fact that you can set them all on unlock for convenience when you need all your cabinets readily available is a nice option. That being said, you have to remember to set them back to the lock position when you are done. We keep the key right on the fridge for easy access. The replacement keys are expensive, but Im wondering if you could use a regular magnet purchased at the store...Im going to try that for a spare. Great product for a great price!

> 3 dayThis is an acceptable product for basic uses, and it has a couple strong points worth mentioning. The magnet strength is excellent. Both the key and the latch have magnets, this is smart. I found a potential and safe working depth/distance of up to 1 thick piece of lumber (1x4 ideal), with optional 3/8 drywall over the top of that as well. Most cabinet doors are a 3/4 maximum, usually about half inch, so these are strong enough indeed. Floating in air with no obstruction, i was able to operate the magnet latching from almost 2 apart. Also, the key is easy to find, just keep it where you expect it. Having its own magnet allows a variety of storage options. The product loses a star for a couple reasons. First, mounting versatility - i didnt use them in a open air cabinet door with no obstructions like most people will. Also, the small screw hole tabs - these proved to be a mounting challenge, and the base that attaches to the door is bowed (convex) on many of them. No screws came with, youre on own with that one as well. I still would recommend this product.

> 3 dayI ordered 36 of the other child locks and they are complete junk compared to these! I dont have children, but if I did I would want these locks. I have these locks on cabinets on a rental property that I keep some of my personal items in. They are not just for child safety. They are great because the locks are hidden and people cannot figure how they open. The secret is in the magnetic key. This brands key is very strong and works even through thick doors. The other brand has a weak key which is hard to open the locks. The other amazing feature is the push button to keep the lock open when you dont want to lock the cabinet or drawer. The other brand has a poorly made red handle that never stays in place and the cabinets lock when you dont want them to. The Safety 1st brand solves that problem with the pushbuttons. I use these in 3 homes now and I love them. Do not buy the other brand, only buy the Safety 1st brand as they are the best built, and work the best. Very strong and sturdy on even some of the hardest cabinet doors to lock. Installation is a breeze also.

Greater than one weekThe locks seem to hold the doors to my kitchen cabinets securely closed. And the magnetic keys work to unlock the locks through the thickest part of the cabinet doors (probably about 1/2 inch of solid wood). However, even with the provided template, they were not particularly easy to install. Alignment was a little more difficult than I thought it needed to be, resulting in a few extra holes on the (not visible from the outside) inside of the cabinet. I should have measured 3 times, not just twice, before drilling.

> 3 dayIf you buy these, you wont be disappointed. Admittedly, they are a little bit of a pain to install and line everything up, but so far, I have yet to find a baby proofing product that isnt. They are an exercise in patience, but as you progress through the first two or three it becomes much easier. Our 1 year old couldnt resist opening the cabinets in our entertainment center, kitchen, and built-ins, once these were installed it only took a couple of days for him to realize he wouldnt be able to open the cabinets anymore and now he doesnt even try. We ordered two sets, so fortunately we received two keys which we strategically placed in our home. The only negative I can think with these, is if you lose the key. Its only a magnet, so it will be easy to replace, but if you lose the key and dont have a magnet around and need to get into a cabinet, you are going to be very, very annoyed. Thats not enough reason to give this any less than 5 stars though, thats the design, so you know it going in.

> 3 dayThese things work! At first it was a little difficult to get the two pieces lined up when I was originally installing on the cabinets but I figured it out. My youngest is 1 and he gets into everything. I just put one of these on all of the cabinets to keep him out of everything he can get his hands on. The magnet seems to work well even with thicker cabinets and it has a button you can push in when you dont want the cabinets locked, like when you are putting away dishes. If you dont use this unlock function, it can get frustrating using the magnet every time. Important note: place the magnet somewhere that is easy for you to access but not the kids. We lost the first magnet after the first week and had to order a generic one for child safety locks. I had to use some strong earth magnets in the mean time to still be able to get into my cabinets. It would be nice to have some sort of magnet holder for this but you can easily stick it on any metal appliance for easy access. I wish I had bought these 6 children ago!

> 3 dayPreface: Absolutely Freaking Amazing! Pros: 1) Easy to lineup and install. After the first or second, you become a pro. 2) Directions were easy to read and easy to follow. 3) Cost efficient 4) Completely hidden from view so your kitchen continues to look awesome! 5) When installed correctly ~ no cabinet rattle. Cons: 1) Wish it shipped with more than 1 magnet tool. 2) Wish there was another color option (black perhaps?) Conclusion: My only negatives arent really even cons. Thats because this system is awesome! We originally installed a set at our old house several years ago when our first born son was born. They worked great, and I absolutely loved the fact that they were hidden from view and easy to manipulate with the tool to get them open. When we moved last year, we ordered up another set because we now swear by these things. Once the kiddos grow up, I doubt well even remove ~ we may just keep them on the cabinets and explain to the new owners/renters how to use them. We have encouraged several new parents to purchase, and are aware of atleast 1 couple that has and absolutely loves them! If I could rate this 10 stars, I would! Its been that awesome!
