Safety 1st Magnetic Locking System (1 Key and 8 Locks)

> 3 dayThe lock itself works well. I have two children in the home, ages 4 and 1. Neither can open the drawer when the lock is on and engaged. I was able to open the drawer when I installed the lock on the top center. Doing so loosened the catch. I also had a lot of trouble with that first installation primarily because I trusted the measurements provided. After having installed several of the locks and seeing them in practice over a weekend, I have the following recommendations; 1) Trust your own measurements. The measurements provided with the sticky pads that come in the packaging arent exact. These locks are small and the drilling needs to be precise. If youre off by a 1/16th of an inch the catch might not be effective. 2) Put the catch on first. Its easier to start with the catch then measure where the lock goes after that since the lock will need to clear under the catch in order for the drawer to close. 3) Place the catch in the top corner or on the side. I initially put my first lock top center the way you usually see those cheap plastic catches installed. It did not work nearly as well as it could have. All in all, the locks work very well, but the installation instructions werent very good. If youre reasonably handy dump the instructions and make the measurements yourself. Youll save you some time. That said, I definitely recommend this product.

> 3 dayGood quality, easy to install, good amount for the price. If installed correctly, these magnets keep the doors and drawers completely shut with no gap (unlike the little white clip/tabs). Avoids pinched fingers and tempting their curiosity by trying to pull items through the small gap in the door/drawer. Theyre also more aesthetically pleasing when the door/drawers are open. With twin 2 yr old boys who help each other get into everything, its nice not to worry about them playing in the kitchen and what utensils they can pull through the gap when Im not looking. I will use these magnets on all my doors/drawers around the house (restrooms, dresser drawers). Only four stars: I originally thought you could turn on/off the magnet. This would help when cooking so you dont have to keep reaching for the magnet key to open doors/drawers that have closed. This means that when I cook, I have to leave the doors/drawers that Im constantly using open or else I have to grab the magnet key with hands full of food.

Greater than one weekI was initially concerned about installing these, as the little key things are kinda annoying to have to grab. But if you can find a central place to store it near the doors, its good. Ive seen these before where the key rubbed away the finish, but i find the magnet is so strong that you dont even have to touch the cabinet to unlock - just get it close (about an inch or two) from the spot and you can hear the magnet unlock it. Pretty cool. We were forced to go with something like this as our cabinets are flush against each other and the drawers above, so there is no way to open them slightly and unlatch the push type with your finger. I wish the 8-pack came with a second key, as you might have to order another key. The keys alone are so expensive, I just ordered an extra 8-pack and have a few more latches just in case a few fail, or I find another spot to lock. Havent had that problem yet. Totally unexpected benefit - once open, you can push that little gray switch which unlocks them so you no longer need the key. This will be great when my son is old enough not to need them, we dont have to uninstall them and reinstall for the next kid. Also, if youre cooking, doing dishes, or something where you are in and out of the locked space but the kids arent around, you can unlock them and have easy access, then re-lock them all when youre done. Actually, turned out quite nice. The mounting is pretty easy. The lock on the door and the tang on the cabinet both install with a pair of screws. Pre-drill the holes so you dont splinter the wood, as the screws are short, but kind of thick. It comes with little stick on templates (enough for every mounting position) but I didnt use them A) because I didnt see them until I was 4 latches in, and B) because the plastic has wide spaces allowing some adjustment once installed. Get it pretty close, or use the guides for one or two, and you can probably eyeball it.

21-11-2024These work great for keeping little ones out, they do get annoying for adults at times though. I find myself using the key to open a drawer, setting the key down, closing the drawer, only realizing I need something else, then picking up the key again and unlocking the device. Sometimes this happens over and over. It sounds like I am being absurd for being annoyed with this minor inconveniences, but it gets a little annoying having to get the key EVERY SINGLE TIME to open a door. That is not the fault of the product, that was by design and there is nothing they can do about it. It still is good for what it is intended to do. Install was not the easiest, the instructions and little sticker guides for drill holes were just confusing for me, so I just eyeballed the mount points and that worked fine for me. Can my wife install them? Doubt it, but she is not very handy either. So you need to have basic hand tool experience I would say to install these.

> 3 dayI bought these because I could not stand the latch locks. The installation template made it very easy to install. They seem to be very secure (my son hasn’t messed with the cabinets today). So far I love it.

> 3 dayI just purchased our third set of these. The first two sets we used in the kitchen, the third we purchased for the bathrooms now that we are about to begin potty training. These are the best cabinet child proofing product out there. They are slightly time consuming to install but are worth it. Make sure to read the instructions, if you dont it can be slightly confusing. No marks are made on the outside of the cabinets, and they stay completely closed. A magnet key is used to open them. My daughter does have a alphabet fridge magnet toy, thankfully the magnet letters CANNOT open the cabinets. The decorative magnets I use to hang things on the fridge can open them. I would recommend tying a ribbon to the keys so you can hang them on higher cabinet nobs, and find them easily. These can be left unlocked by flicking the switch on the inside which is great for grandparents. I also leave my bathroom cabinets unlocked most the time and only lock them when my daughter is around for a while. I was also surprised how durable they are, our first two sets were installed in kitchen, we then moved and installed them in our new kitchen. None of them broke being removed, and installed a second time very well.

Greater than one weekThese things work! At first it was a little difficult to get the two pieces lined up when I was originally installing on the cabinets but I figured it out. My youngest is 1 and he gets into everything. I just put one of these on all of the cabinets to keep him out of everything he can get his hands on. The magnet seems to work well even with thicker cabinets and it has a button you can push in when you dont want the cabinets locked, like when you are putting away dishes. If you dont use this unlock function, it can get frustrating using the magnet every time. Important note: place the magnet somewhere that is easy for you to access but not the kids. We lost the first magnet after the first week and had to order a generic one for child safety locks. I had to use some strong earth magnets in the mean time to still be able to get into my cabinets. It would be nice to have some sort of magnet holder for this but you can easily stick it on any metal appliance for easy access. I wish I had bought these 6 children ago!

> 3 dayThe absolute best child proof products I have come across. My husband a gadget guy saw this and had to get it at a store. I was skeptical. I have to say this product wooed me! Every possible cabinet is now locked with these in my house. They dont open without a magnet (it does come with a magnet key) we keep one on the refrigerator and one on the dishwasher. In regards to the key magnet pros: * too big for baby to choke on so Im not nervous * older children love to use it, they kind of think its magic * can attach to anything metal In regards to locks pros: * will not open without the key (it feels like superglue, stuck, you are not opening without the key) * easily installed compared to other cabinet locks * has a switch to allow you to keep it open if need be (we use this while cooking for the cabinet with the trash can) * if you lose the key, you can open with any strong magnet I will definitely recommend this product to any and everyone!

Greater than one weekIm a big fan of this lock system. My main issue is the price, but considering what you get I think its worth it. At first, I went to a local store and got the usual cabinet locks that you push down after opening the door slightly. I was trying to save money, and these were something like 20 latches for $8. Well, I stopped installing them after the first one because I hated it so much. Its flimsy and Im sure itll break, especially because the door can open about 4 before it catches! That surprised me. I figured it would open about 2 at most so I could stick my finger in there and clear the latch, but no, my son could stick his entire arm and shoulder into the cabinet and reach a LOT of stuff. So I bit the bullet and bought my first kit of Safety 1st magnetic locks and Im glad I did. Every complaint I had about the traditional cabinet latches was eliminated by these locks. I wouldnt say their construction is perfect, but its just fine for the purpose. I love that the door cant open more than a couple mm, which should help prolong the life of the locks because my toddler isnt enjoying the experience of opening and slamming the door. I also LOVE the ability to disable the locks easily. When we put our son down and Im planning on doing a lot in the kitchen, Ill unlock the most-used doors and drawers, and Im not slowed down by having to use a key. Its great! Installing the locks is pretty easy, but youll need tools like a drill. If your cabinets have a fairly large inset panel, you might have some trouble installing these locks, especially if your cabinet doors also overlap the opening significantly. I only had that problem a couple of times and worked around it by finding a better placement for the locks. After the first few installs, I found I stopped needing the [excellent] templates for the most part, and could figure it out on my own. The drawers were the trickiest and most difficult, but I eventually got those done too. I cant say enough great things about these locks. Because of our floorplan, we have no way to keep our toddler out of the kitchen, and I wouldnt want to anyway. Its nice to not have to worry about him getting into every single cabinet. NOTE: do not buy the single key. It currently goes for $9 which is absurd. If you need an extra key, buy some strong rare earth magnets for your fridge, and glue one to some sort of handle. The keys are nothing more than a magnet encased in plastic.

> 3 dayThese locks are a bit on the expensive side, but we tried them as they got good reviews from others. They do work well -- our daughter pulls all her weight against the cabinets in our kitchen and they dont budge at all. They arent difficult to install but you have to take your time. Make sure you have the right drill bit, etc. and the template to get the locks to line up is a nice feature. Once I installed the first cabinet I got the hang of it and just kept going so it was pretty easy. Just know that the locking mechanism is pretty large, so if you were installing these in a very small or crowded cabinet they may not fit. I would say the only possible draw back is just getting used to the fact that you need the key to open the cabinets! It can slow you down in the kitchen, but if your child is not around you can unlock the locks. We keep our key on the front of the fridge, but I could easily see a piece like that going missing. They make a replacement key, though, so Im not terribly concerned about losing it. I will probably buy one more set to finish off the cabinets in our downstairs bathroom, which will give us a back-up key. Overall a nice product!
