Smart Zone Games Hive Pocket

My wife and I are always looking for portable 2 player games. Even if we werent traveling, I think I would prefer the size of the pocket edition. It also comes with all the new pieces that have been added so far except the pillbug. The game itself is pretty fun, and replay-ability is pretty good. We have played a variant where we actually dont look at any tiles were placing, except for the queen. This has made for some interesting matches.

Part checkers, part chess, part mahjong. The ruleset is probably too loose as it allows for many possible stalemates and dead ends. One could easily tweak the rules to prevent that if so inclined.

We first played this game with my family on a large vacation last summer. The game is a hit with my son and myself. Needless to say, I had plans to add this to his stocking for Christmas and did just that. So far, he has taught his grandfather (other side of the family) and keeps this in his BSA scouting backpack for when we go camping.

The game is easy to learn and requires strategy which keeps it interesting. The pieces are a great size, have a nice feel in the hand, and are easy to take along in the included bat. Its rare to find a game that is fun for two people and stays fun after multiple plays; this certainly has that. My only complaint is that it is incredibly hard to get out of the packaging.

Fun game for cheap!

Brilliant Strategy game...one of the all time best, if not THE best. No board, simple intuitive rules, and the most beautifully designed pieces...I sound like a fanboy, because I am. The negative reviews...what can I say? Too hard? Some simple folks see pretty colors and think ooh, its like candy!!...this isnt candy, its a strategy game. Wonky mechanics? What a nimrod.

Great size, fun, nicely made...has become a favorite game for my husband and I to play during pandemic!
