Very good quality. Portability is another plus for this product.

Were a two person household, my daughter and me, and were always looking for fun games that really work with two people but can be played in a relatively short period of time. This game fits the bill. The rules are easy to learn: the point of the game is to capture your opponents bee by moving your pieces so that it is enclosed on all sides (if the bee is enclosed on all sides, it counts as a win, even if some of the pieces belong to your opponent). If you think that sounds bit like chess, youre right, and youll want to protect your bee while trying to capture your opponents bee. But the game is more free form than chess: you create the board by the tiles you play and where you place them, making every game different. Another challenge is that once the game has begun, the tiles must remain connected in a single hive; any moves that would leave an already placed piece sitting out on its own are illegal. The hexagonal tiles must also be able to slide where they want to go, with a few exceptions for bugs that can climb or jump. Youll want to read the instructions, and perhaps watch a few how-to videos, for the complete rules. We can usually play a game in 5 minutes or less, and we really enjoy it. The travel version of the game, which is this version, has relatively smaller tiles, about one inch across, as opposed to the full-size tiles, which are 1.5 inches across (for those of us in the US, that means the travel tiles are about the size of a quarter, while the full-size tiles are about the size of one of the older half-dollar coins). The travel tiles are slightly thinner, about 1/3 of an inch, but still feel substantial and are easy to hold and move (the full-size tiles are about half an inch thick). In the travel set, the different bugs are different colors, just as in the original version. All ants, for example, are blue, while grasshoppers are green and the ladybug is red. The travel set also includes two of the expansion pieces, the mosquito and ladybug, which add new ways of moving. An orange drawstring bag, which easily accommodates all the tiles and the instructions, is included.

I had never played Hive but have been reading so many great things about it. Took it to the brewpub the first night with a friend and we played more rounds than I can remember. This is a great game, and a great set. The pieces are well made and have a great feel. Everything is super easy to carry in the included pouch.

A fun game to take to the pub and play. Gameplay is about 20 minutes.

If you like abstract strategy games like chess, you will love this game.

Brilliant Strategy game...one of the all time best, if not THE best. No board, simple intuitive rules, and the most beautifully designed pieces...I sound like a fanboy, because I am. The negative reviews...what can I say? Too hard? Some simple folks see pretty colors and think ooh, its like candy!!...this isnt candy, its a strategy game. Wonky mechanics? What a nimrod.
