I bought this product because I read it was the best and has been around for years. The product has a great old time soap smell. It lathers great. I dont see any difference in the quality of the shave from glycerin soaps from others.

Great soap but as some have mentioned the smell isnt for everyone. My 5 stars are for the functionality of the soap. I hate reviews where the product works perfectly well, but it gets two stars because the buyer had a bad shipping experience. My GF is sensitive to overdone scents, but it turns out she actually really likes this one. Another reason it gets kudos is there is much less waste using a shaving soap vs a canned foam shaving cream. Very little to no garbage if properly wrapped.

Most wet shavers agree that this is one of the holy grail soaps. I did a lot of research before I pulled the trigger and bought a jar. There are two things that are potentially off-putting and I will address them as objectively as I can before I levy my final verdict. Scent - Probably the most subjective factor regarding this soap which is very polarizing; either you love it or hate it. Its not a hip, new fragrance, and a lot of newbies to the game of wet shaving seem to overlook the fact that this fragrance is over 50+ years old. That being said, I dont mind it because I like old school fragrances and it compliments a wide range of colognes that are currently on the market. Worst case scenario, if the scent bothers that much just wash your face with ivory or dove soap when youre done shaving; 90% of it will be gone and youll have a clean palate for your scent of choice. Price - this is a more universal arguement. Is it expensive? Relatively speaking, yes. But again, it has been around FOREVER. Which to me says something about the efficacy of the product. Plus the packaging is pretty elaborate, which also must be factored into the cost. This to me, however, reflects the whats in the jar - quality, both in and out. Now to the review: the richness of the lather is second to none. There are YouTube videos on how to make a thick, creamy lather in just a matter or a couple minutes. It protects your face incredibly, is slick providing great glide for your razor, and washes off your face, razor and brush easily. It does not irritate the skin like some soaps can (especially genorously scented ones), and a little goes a long way. I tend to load really my brush up for a more luxurious lather, but you can get 3 passes easily with 20-30 seconds of loading provided you put a little water on the puck first to hydrate and break down the top layer. Some people who shave several times a week (3 or more) say they have gotten 6-8 months MINIMUM from this soap; put it in a rotation and it will last for years. So, you still think $25 is exorbitant? I myself think its a bargain. So in conclusion, if youre on the fence about Tabac trust me and take the plunge. And if you still dont like it after youve given it a fair shot, there are plenty of wet shavers out there that will be happy to take it of your hands for pretty much what you paid for it. Thats as close to a money back guarantee as you can get.

Tabac simply cant be beat! Its a great smelling soap with a great lather, in every water, every time. The great glass bowl is the cherry on top.

I love this soap! I bought this in May 2016. It is now February 2018. I shave virtually every day using this soap and a bristle brush. It has lasted, and lasted, and lasted. I was getting near the bottom of the bowl, so last month I removed what remained at the bottom, put in a replacement cake, and put the dregs of the old on top of the new cake. I am only now getting down to the new cake. It is absolutely unbelievable how long this lasts! I load up my brush, then whip it up in a shaving scuttle. It produces incredibly dense, rich foam, and I usually have leftover lather. Think about it. I have gotten nearly two years of shaves out of this! And I love the scent. Old-fashioned, masculine, lingers but never heavy. I have had problems in the past with shaving soaps either drying my skin out or giving me pimples from being too oily. This soap has never done either. I cant say enough good about it. Tabac shaving soap, used with an Edwin Jagger double-edged razor and Derby blades, has given me the best shaves ever, and i virtually never get ingrown whiskers any longer.

Good shaving soap, but not as much lubricity as I had hoped. Works well, but Ive tried others like Kiss MY Face shaving cream which lathers bore easily and has much more lubricity to it to make the razor glide over my skin as if there werent a blade in it.

Im really liking the Tabac shaving soap. The scent is a warm, spicy, leathery aroma that is very masculine and pleasant. It lathers easily and provides a really nice thick, slick cushion. Post shave is good too. I really like the ceramic bowl. It holds the soap puck firmly in place and looks nice on my counter top. This soap should last a long time, but when it comes time for a refill you can just drop a new puck in and youre ready to go. Pair it with the Tabac after shave lotion for the full old school Tabac experience. Highly recommended.

Now this soap shocked me. I am a huge fan of Stirling Soap. Ive used many different kinds over the years and didnt hold out hope that I would like this much. Well, shut my mouth! This soap is incredible. Rich, slick, protective, whips up quickly - it is everything I have wanted and more. Ive been a DE shaver for some 5+ years. I use ATT razors and am very willing to spend on what I want. Tabac, is hard to believe. The price is right. The performance is out of this world. This rose immediately to my #1 position. I think it ties with Stirling for #1. But I can tell you, I would be happy if this soap is all I had. I load my brush for about 30 - 35 seconds. That gives me enough for probably 5 passes. More than I need. If you havent tried this soap, get it now. It is simply THAT good. Seriously, no bull. No one gave this to me, nor gave me a discount, nor anything else. I bought it, and I love it. I will insure I am never without it.

The lather is exceptionally rich, better than Proraso in this regard. And the scent is really something special, perhaps not to modern tastes but personally it brings back good memories of visiting relatives in Europe in the 1980’s.
