This product is my gold standard for shaving soaps and I recommend it to everyone who asks for a soap. It lathers with no problems, whatever type brush you use (boar or badger) and the lather is thick, slick and cushiony. I love the scent as well though this is the most likely reason some people do not like this soap. If you are one of them, leave it open for a few days and the scent will fade a little without disappearing completely. I have used this with hard and soft waters and had no problem in generating a great lather quickly. You get quite a lot of product for the money and it comes in nice glass/ceramic tub that does not look out of place in a bathroom. Suggest that you get the After Shave (Lotion or Balm) to go with this soap!!!

I use this for my everyday shave. Smells good and not overbearing. Great lubrication for shaving.

So I got this soap because of advice from the community. I am working on a shaving brush for a custom brush maker and have had a lot of discussion about shave soaps and the consensus for me was that tabac is a must have classic. So I got it, kind of expecting to not like the scent, and I was right. It smelled like the soap you would find in a casino in Vegas. Kind of pungent. But the performance is so good, I couldnt give it anything other than 5 stars. Im on vacation right now with only one soap with me, and I remember one night dreaming about shaving with my tabac when I get home. I love it. The scent is slowly growing on me too.

the smell reminds me of Boraxo soap in elementary school. Pretty good soap, but Im liking VDHs Luxury soap for its fantastic smell.

Yeah this shaving soap is pretty awesome. Soak your brush in warm water for a few minutes then work the soap. Watch it explode. I bring the loaded brush up to my skin and lather on the face directly. Makes a thick, creamy, phenomenal lather. The scent is strong at first, but after a few uses it greatly subsides. Now it just smells like a very lightly scented soap. So I wouldnt let too many comments about the scent steer you away. Cant go wrong.

This is, by far, the best performing shave soap I have used. If you enjoy wetshaving, and you have issues getting good usable lather, try this soap. You basically just have to look at it while holding a wet shave brush in your hand, and youll get great lather out of it!

I disliked the fragrance. It was the lavender flowery smell that I just couldnt get past. I threw the jar away even though the shave was good.

This is the finest shaving soap Ive used, period. With a good quality brush you can make mounds of rich, hydrating lather. Ive used it to shave with DEs and cartridge razors, and it has helped reduce irritation. The most remarkable thing about this soap is how much water you can add while maintaining a slick lather. A little goes a long way. With daily use one puck will last nearly a year. The tub is attractive and refillable. Finally, I love the fragrance--it reminds me of an old-time barber shop. I cant recommend it highly enough--my desert island soap for sure!

Its good but I have had several that are comparable. Not sure what the hype is about.

Doesnt lather very well for a premium product; Very overpriced.
