> 3 dayWow! Now I know what they are talking about. I use this soap on the weekends for a treat. I usually switch between Vander Hagen and Arko during the week. The soap has a pleasent smell to it and produces a lather without effort. I use a badger hair brush. The container is nice size with a lift lid. I have not used any of the Italian soaps but have read this compares in its smooth lather. If I had to pick one soap this soap would be the one and for the money it lasts a long time.

> 3 dayIve been using Mitchells Wool Fat Shaving Soap for over a year and Im very satisfied with it. Ive heard about Tabac for a long time and I just thought I would give it a try and compare the two soaps. These are my observations: 1. Both soaps are excellent. 2. The Mitchells soap has a very light clean smell that no one can object to. 3. Tabac has a rather strange/funky scent that I really cant place or put a name to but it is not over powering and I quickly learned to ignore it. Using the same brush, razor, and blades I placed the open containers in warm water while I get other things really to use. 4. The Tabac lathers very quickly. Mitchells takes a few moments to lather up once it is in the shaving bowl. 5. Tabacs lather is very full and very slick. Mitchells not so much without additional work but still not as slick. 6. Since Tabacs lather is very slick, the blade slides much easiler over the skin. This is a big advantage in those trouble spots. The blade does not drag over the skin and so you get less nicks while shaving. 7. I find that the lather of Tabac is so full that you dont need to load up your brush as often as with Mitchells soap. Both soaps are excellent and they last a very long time before they need to be replaced. For me I would give the final nod to Tabac overall.

> 3 dayDifficult to describe but Tabac smells just like its name suggests - a great tobacconist shop. May sound a bit off-putting but in fact, its a great, rich, evocative aroma. Smoke the occasional good cigar and this lather reminds me of a wonderful combination of tobacco and single-malt and and leather (the good stuff NOT English Leather!) - a mens club. If you hate smoking or smokers or tobacco, its probably not for you. Otherwise, live large - it produces a rich and soft lather that sets up your beard for a great shave and the smell lingers - in a good way.

> 3 dayLove-it-or-hate-it scent (I like it). But the real revelation with Tabac is how well it lathers. Out of all the shaving soaps Ive used, this easily lathers the best and whips-up into a super-rich easy-to-apply foam that feels great. It also seems to last forever. Ive barely made a dent in mine despite using it 3-4 times per week. Probably the best shaving soap i have stumbled across.

Greater than one weekThis soap performs better than I expected in every way. I am very happy with it and would buy refills again.

> 3 dayI am fairly new to shaving with a badger brush and shaving soap, but I love Tabac! I read a few reviews online and heard it was easy to lather and smells great! I could not be happier with my decision to purchase this soap! Highly recommended!

18-11-2024This is a excellent shaving soap. That being said, how can it be worth $40.00 when there are so many other excellent shaving soaps on the market at a fraction of the cost? I bought this same soap, according to Amazon, in July 2011 for less than $20.00. I would never pay the price being asked now. Now, for a review of the soaps qualities and little about my shaving history. I have been shaving with soap and a double edged razor for forty years. Thats all Ive ever used, except for a dozen shaves from a free Mach 3, I received in the mail several years ago. So, in those forty years Ive tried many soaps from all over the world and TABAC is in the top ten of soaps Ive used. It provides nice thick lather and stays moist on your face while you wait to soften your beard. The razor glides across your skin and you can hardly feel it work. The aroma wafts to your nose and actually makes you smile. It may be a little too heavily scented for some, its powerfully fragrant. After the shave, your face feels soft and clean with no greasiness whatsoever. The scent is mostly washed away as you rinse and towel your face. It seems to last forever. Ive used it at least once a week in my rotation and still have over half left. The bowl is extremely well made and very heavy. It doesnt slide around as you load your brush, you can hold your wash cloth to your face and load your brush at the same time. Being heavy, it stays submerged in the hot water and warms wonderfully. The bowl will last forever. Two things I would leave you with. If youve never tried TABAC, you should at least once. And lastly, Arko is the finest shaving soap I have ever put to my face and it costs very little compared to TABAC. Your mileage may vary.
