> 3 dayOrdered 3 of these for rental units and will probably get more for my mom’s house. Yes they are expensive but the ease of installation, the fact that they don’t damage the new vinyl siding, and the solid support they are worth it. I watched the video before putting it together. Literally a 5-min installation for me (female, age 50 with back issues). My husband normally tackles the annual a/c install and removal but this year i did it no problem. And there was no worries that they woukd fall on people below. After one full season of use I do see minor rust on a couple places but a wipedown and a bit of metal paint will keep them in good shape.

> 3 dayExtremely sturdy and easy to install BUT needs some modifications if using with an AC requiring to install the cabinet then the AC itself. I used 2 pieces of 3/8 thick aluminum I bolted to the far crossbar , then I could install the cabinet (bolted to the crossbars). I would suggest the manufacturer to offer this modification as an option. Fits tightly and very nicely. Required very little weather stripping. For all other window ACs, can be used easily. Just check that your windows are compatible with this shelf: go on the web site of the manufacturer: there are some good pictures. By the way the instructions are not well written.

> 3 dayThis is a well-built, heavy-duty product with a clean look. Assembly was simple, and once in place it made installation of the AC itself surprisingly quick and easy. For once, no shims or screws were necessary. In my experience maintaining a rental property, window AC setups are typically improvised affairs. Ive never installed or adjusted an AC without a good bit of shimming and foam-stuffing. Especially in older homes, window ACs are just an inherently kludgey solution—and the Top Shelf bracket wont change that fundamental fact. In my case, the bracket didnt alleviate the need for plugging some air gaps, nor did I really expect it to. Its main benefit is post-installation peace of mind: Im not worried about the AC shifting or, worse, a tenant accidentally opening a sash and the whole thing tipping out the window. The bracket is solid, and Im confident the AC isnt going anywhere. But given all the variables—e.g., window casing, wall thickness, siding type—Id recommend reading the manufacturer notes and customer reviews carefully before buying. Or, better yet, contacting the company. As other reviewers have noted, the owner is exceptionally responsive. Before purchasing, I emailed him a query with photos of my window, and he replied in less than a half hour, with attached illustrations addressing my questions.

Greater than one weekWorked very well. Sturdy and well-made. Used it for a 10,000 btu a/c that happened to be the same width as the arms. The platform is 19 wide, the gap between them is 15. The struts have good feet with rubber nubs on them, but I added a wood beam at the bottom to spread the load on the fiber/cement shingles, which are a little brittle. (Not much weight on them so it was probably unnecessary.) Also added a 1/4 sheet of plastic to the platform to slide the a/c on. (Also not necessary.) A small bedroom a/c would look small on this; I also got a Jeacent unit that is 15 wide and fits the small units better.

> 3 dayThis is overall a very good product, from the standpoint of support and security, once you learn to adapt it to your particular situation. I had to improvise, since the unit for which I had bought it had under-unit channels for the accordian flanges that made it impossible to fit the only possible place in the TopShelf. So I had to have the a-c sit totally on top of the Shelf in order to bring the window down behind the top rail rather than in front of it. This required some extra carpentry and insulation and the making of extra panels to keep out external air. Still, my major concern is the security of the a-c, and in this it doesnt fail. Our old farmhouse window doesnt have any added stress with TopShelf

> 3 dayThis was easy to assemble. It looks nice from the outside. We live in a second story condo and put it in our primary bedroom. It feels sturdy even with a heavy AC unit on it.

> 3 daySpending this kind of money I thought this would have a better fit. I spent $650+ on this Friedrich air conditioner and did not want it falling out of the second floor of this hovel, and trust me, this building was built on the cheap. Had to use lots of foam for the huge gaps. Im keeping for when I move again, but I am not happy about this at all. Most of the blame lies with building management.

22-11-2024We have ruined our window trim with installing and reinstalling our air conditioner in the spring/fall. I was done, so I started looking for something that was simple and easy and would provide the support we needed. I chose this product because it came fully assembled except four pieces which you need to adjust to your window. It took us a couple of tries to get it installed (no more than 30 minutes) once it is was installed, we slide the AC unit onto the bracket - what a great device. It leveled properly. We liked it so much we purchased 2 more brackets for our other AC units. Highly recommend.

> 3 dayI had a nightmare time trying to install my 12000BTU AC in my condos window. The window is old and the sill is strange, and other brackets that required bolts just didnt line up properly. I decided to go with this one after reading the wirecutter review and wow did it do the trick. I simply installed the arms and the locking mechanisms and it fit just right. It turned a project I dreaded doing into something I found quite easy and fun. Would buy again.

> 3 dayThis is a great bracket that doesnt require any drilling whatsoever, which was one of the biggest priorities for me when searching brackets online. I live in a rental and wanted to avoid doing any permanent damage to the window sills from drilling holes. Also, Ive been able to move the bracket around to different windows with the greatest of ease when figuring out the proper spot for the AC. Other pluses of this bracket: Easy to take out during the winter Enough adjustments to get the right width and angle of the AC unit Plenty of support for my 12,000 BTU unit Really easy to assemble Peace of mind when installing a heavy unit alone Few notes: My AC unit wasnt as flush and snug in the window as it usually is without a bracket, but I feel like this is usually the case with most brackets. I highly recommend buying some AC insulation foam to place behind the panels and to stuff underneath the bracket in order to fill in any gaps. Also, it may take a few tries to get the right angle. My AC is not totally flat underneath so I had to readjust a couple of times to get it right.
