AMAZING bracket. I have never owned one before now, but I cannot imagine there being a better product. No tools, assembles in under two minutes, lightweight but STRONG. It sits in the window, you adjust it to fit better and voila, the perfect platform for your A/C unit. The A/C unit slides onto it like a knife through warm butter. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Every penny. Spend the money on quality and innovation.

This is overall a very good product, from the standpoint of support and security, once you learn to adapt it to your particular situation. I had to improvise, since the unit for which I had bought it had under-unit channels for the accordian flanges that made it impossible to fit the only possible place in the TopShelf. So I had to have the a-c sit totally on top of the Shelf in order to bring the window down behind the top rail rather than in front of it. This required some extra carpentry and insulation and the making of extra panels to keep out external air. Still, my major concern is the security of the a-c, and in this it doesnt fail. Our old farmhouse window doesnt have any added stress with TopShelf

This is a well-built, heavy-duty product with a clean look. Assembly was simple, and once in place it made installation of the AC itself surprisingly quick and easy. For once, no shims or screws were necessary. In my experience maintaining a rental property, window AC setups are typically improvised affairs. Ive never installed or adjusted an AC without a good bit of shimming and foam-stuffing. Especially in older homes, window ACs are just an inherently kludgey solution—and the Top Shelf bracket wont change that fundamental fact. In my case, the bracket didnt alleviate the need for plugging some air gaps, nor did I really expect it to. Its main benefit is post-installation peace of mind: Im not worried about the AC shifting or, worse, a tenant accidentally opening a sash and the whole thing tipping out the window. The bracket is solid, and Im confident the AC isnt going anywhere. But given all the variables—e.g., window casing, wall thickness, siding type—Id recommend reading the manufacturer notes and customer reviews carefully before buying. Or, better yet, contacting the company. As other reviewers have noted, the owner is exceptionally responsive. Before purchasing, I emailed him a query with photos of my window, and he replied in less than a half hour, with attached illustrations addressing my questions.

I thought we were going to have to hire someone to secure our window air conditioner in the attic, but this works GREAT!! It was easy to assemble, and easy to install in the window. The air conditioner is now securely in place. When I was searching some commenters thought it was too expensive, but I would rather pay a little more to have something I know is secure. We just had new siding and windows installed last year, so we also like that this doesnt need to be attached to the outside wall to be secure -- so there are no holes in our new exterior!! Love it!!

I was very impressed with the apparent quality and workmanship of this unit (very versatile for just about any size and application) so I was very disappointed when my contractor tried to install it but said it would not work with my new Frigidaire window a/c unit. Im not a contractor so I cant say for sure why not, but I believe it had to do with the way the base of the a/c was made. They spent a lot of time trying to get it to work, but could not. Amazon return was smooth and painless - but I wish it would have worked. My a/c was installed in a window right over the street and if for no other reason but for visual assurance I wanted a beefy looking shelf unit to support it, and I am sure this would have been perfect -- even though Frigidaire said the a/c did not need any additional support. My 18,000 btu unit was very heavy and the contractor ended up fabricating his own supports for my peace of mind :-). I wish I could give further detailed information as to why it would not work with my a/c (it fit into the window perfectly) to help those reading this review decide whether to purchase - but Im not exactly sure what the contractors were up against but I do know they tried very hard to get it to work.

Things you should be aware of: 1) According to the manufacturer, even though it appears on Amazon as if this is being sold by the manufacturer it isnt, and shame on Amazon for not including.... 2) The product is not compatible with the type of heavy window unit where the sleeve and the chassis (the guts of the AC) are two separate pieces. The only way you find this out is by visiting the manufacturers store page on their website. 3) Product is dead easy to install but you will need to insulate the trough behind the adjustment brackets otherwise youll have free flowing air through your window underneath your AC. 4) Excellent customer service from the manufacturer despite the fact that I did not buy from him. The three stars is less for the quality of the product than it is for the experience I had with purchasing then finding out I cant use, or now return because the packaging is already gone.

This shelf does hold an air conditioner; mine held a large unit. It wasnt incredibly difficult to assemble. That being said, it did leave a gap at the bottom where outside air could easily infiltrate. I also found damage on my sill. Additionally, The water ran out of my unit down the closest leg and painted my brick wall white. It also rusted away all of the paint on one foot and introduced rust on the other foot. I also had difficulty keeping the pads in while installing the mount. Its a good concept but the product needs a little more quality control.

Like others have said, if your window isn’t a certain one, it won’t fit. Actually, my window did fit the description, but I could not get the window (that you bring down on top of the ac) to align with the rail in the bracket that the ac unit drops into. When I bring the window down, I have to lean the unit into the house to get the window all the way down on top of it to hold it in. Unfortunately, this tilts the ac unit into the house, which is exactly what you don’t want. I called the company, they called me back, I sent photos and they responded with an email that was not helpful. When I replied, I heard nothing back. I am unfortunately 18 days past my return date, so I am stuck with this thing that is totally useless. My advice is to call the company first and send them pictures of your windows to be sure it will fit. If it will fit, it’s a solid bracket.

I didnt want to pay ninety-nine dollars for this -- but there was no other solution. I must say, when it arrived I was very impressed with the packaging and build quality and my angst over the price dissipated to the point where I could swallow the price. Packaging -- it comes in foam packaging with cutouts for each part so they safely stay separated and undamaged. Build quality -- theres no way this is bending and it looks to be powder coated for a great finish that wont peel or rust easily. Problem: I had to return it though because it wasnt obvious to me that it would add an inch (eyeball measurement) to the overall height of the window sill. This made it impossible for me to fit my AC in the window. Even if I had been able to fit it in, I wasnt sure I liked how the feet were pressed against the bottom edge of my vinyl siding shingle (is that what its called?). I wish there was a way to lower the legs somehow so that I could place them squarely on the top part that is closest to my actual house where it wont be subject to the same pressure. I worried that over time the vinyl siding would crack.

The buttons were at an angle and didnt line up with the holes on the bracket. Tried our best to finagle them, but to no avail. Happened with both sets that we purchased. Returning.
