> 3 dayI was under the impression that this was a two-way device, but thats okay. I can delve into that technology later. I purchased this particular model with some apprehension after reading third party reviews saying that it would be difficult to program...then charging $100s to program. Thankfully I didnt solicit any of that help, but instead performed my own internet research and read the owners manual. The software that can be installed onto a computer to communicate with this scanner via USB is easy to understand and intuitive enough for the basic/advanced computer user. I still have a lot to learn about the different uses and technologies in general, but thats part of the fun.

> 3 dayThis is a very good scanner. Reception is very good and you will have no problems if you live with in city limits or are a few miles from a repeater tower. It is also relatively easy to program frequencies into the scanner. The only cons for the product are that you can not program names in for your presets, meaning you will have to be vaguely familiar with the frequency to know who you are listening to. Also the scanner uses a lot of power so you have to charge or buy batteries frequently.

> 3 dayThe radio is fine and a decent price. It does not function on a trunk system so if your emergency services are using a trunk or digital system you will need a more advanced radio. I should have done more research before choosing which radio to purchase since I needed the more advanced model. That said, returning it was hassle free and the other radio is already being processed. Cant give it 5 stars since I never was able to really use it other than to listen into some HAM operators and the Weather Broadcasts.

> 3 dayThe scanner is perfect for the amateur listener. I have had others before and for the price it more than meets my needs. The only thing I would consider a negative is the use of the volumn knob for other purposes, requires you to remember to switch modes to return to the previous function. Its only slightly inconvenient. Other than that I wish there was an option to keep the backlight on for easier identification of the frequency when in low light situations. Easy to operate and program. Light and portable. Excellent product for the price. Couldnt be happier!

> 3 dayLove my scanner I would have given it 5 stars but I can not get it to stop making screeching noises on certain channels like someone holding the mic down other wise all calls come in clear easy set up took about 15 minutes in all and it was up and running if I can get the excess screeching to stop I will edit this and give it a 5 star rating but for those who are electronic pros you will have no trouble I would recommend this to those wanting too have one in a vehicle or like I do in my living room where there is not much room for a standard scanner it is small and does not take up much room at all. All in All this is a great scanner it even picks up care flight 30 miles away which is a plus for me.

> 3 dayI bought this exclusively for railroad listening, and it works great. I live near several major rail yards, so proximity to the signals isnt an issue. As with things of this type, programming usually messes with my mind, but there are several great utube videos that make it easy. I programmed all 100 AAR freqs so no matter where I am, I can catch anything going on nearby. Battery life is just fine so far, as is the quality of the radio. I am very happy with this purchase!

> 3 dayThe scanner works fine, as portable scanners go. However, after about 2 years, the display went wonky, so I can only see pieces of the numbers to know what channel a call is coming in on. Im a news reporter, so its helpful to know what agency is being called out to a situation. I was looking through here, thinking I would just buy a new one, when I saw that there is downloadable software that can be used to program the scanner! YAY! Except that its only for Windows, and I have all Apple products. So, unless youre on a Windows platform, dont get too excited about the software. Not sure why software for an analog scanner has conform to either windows or mac, since the scanner is clearly neither.

> 3 dayOnce you figure out the tricks, it works quite well. We use it for Train Spotting. Update, Nov 2018. This little unit still works great. Have had no problems with it at all. Once you learn how to select you frequency ranges, it works very well. We have had this for maybe 3 years.

> 3 dayThis scanner is great for small town cities but not for the big cities. Its a great scanner for what it does. Probably one of the most affordable scanners available. But if youre looking to get big cities you probably want to go with a digital scanner. Because that is what most emergency services today use. You will still get to listen in on some agencies. But most are digital and this is only analog. If you are wondering if your favorite em. service is using digital, look it up online. Thats my one piece of advice. But its a great little scanner! It has a BOATLOAD of programmable channels that you can designate. It also has a feature built into it where you can select what you want to listen to (i.e. fire, police, air, marine,.....) and it will scan certain frequencies that the selected agencies use. which is very handy! So if youre looking for a great, affordable, and easy to use scanner for every day use, this is for you (depending on your wants and needs (Digital or Analog))!
