I cant give you too much technical jargon. What I can say is the following; Very easy to set up. Manual was an easy read. The YOUTUBE videos make programming and setup a snap. My advice before you buy is ask someone in your area about scanning as this is an entry level scanner. It may not do all of what is required in large cities/metropolitan areas. I live in the rural northwest and I am enjoying all the frequencies in my area. I also put rechargable batteries in my scanner and they seem to last about 9 hours a charge. This may vary with your scanner depending on what you have it doing. 4 stars because the plastic feels a little bit brittle and so I handle it with kit gloves.

Lots of one star reviews by people who refuse to read the instructions. You need to save every frequency you want the scanner to listen for, its not automatic. Most areas have dozens per agency so download the free software and use the usb cable and a computer to do it.

Just opened the box and there is considerable corrosion in battery compartment. We will see if it works and have contacted the seller.

Im a rail fan so I like to be able to hear the engine crews and dispatchers when Im trackside. With its pre programmed service bands, the BC75XLT is so easy to use. I found the reception to be good and when using Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries, I could listen in for hours on a full charge. The batteries can also be charged in the unit via a USB power source such as a computer or wall adapter. The unit is also simple to program if you want to enter specific frequencies or a range of frequencies. I also like that it is very compact and seems to be well built. I would recommend..

Very good device really easy to program there is a little static but good sound quality. It showed up quick everything looked great coming out of the box. One disclaimer I wish that it came with rechargeable battery in it i mean why come with a charger and not have rechargeable battery but besides that great device

well it is a good handheld scanner, indoor use or handheld works pretty good. pick up police frequency with no problem. loud and clear. store frequency is easy. scan function is good. HOWEVER, dont try to use it in a car. i keep it in my car and while the car is moving in town, the result is not good anymore. so if you would like to use it in car, consider using an additional long car scanner antenna for it. i m guessing it would helps a lot. but overall, this is a good scanner.

quick frequency install via internet radio frequencies list for owners( 80 mile area.) antenna provided 5 inch is fine but i put it to my old analog scanner one foot long multi element (at peak of rooftop antenna )and got so much going on at s c a n mode. get one of these and you can quickly hear that police emergency vehicle transmitt clear speech going tothat location ( of your curosity.) offers options like 200 lock out channels that made noise when scanning. buy two each 2300 mh aa batteries and listen for a couple of days current draw very low.these go for twice the cost elsewhere , see you tube reviews and how to plug and play . enter scanner bc75 xlt at search space.

The Bearcat BC75XLT is a great starter scanner for the beginner. I am finding this device to be a huge asset when it comes to knowing what is going on around me. Search my name, the make and model of this scanner on Youtube for a complete in-depth video presentation. Features I like about this radio: * Searching through the VHF/UHF frequencies is very fast. * 300 Memory Channels * Priority Channel mode. * Close Call mode. * Great reception when compared to my other HTs. * Customized Search feature that can be done directly on the radio. * Ten Service Bands, makes finding certain frequencies that much quicker. * Delay...oh how you need this. * Good build quality. * Uses 2 AA batteries, either Alkaline or NiMH. * Smart Charger built in for the NiMH batteries. * USB power can supply the radio enough power to run without battteries. * USB connectivity to the computer for downloading and uploading data to the scanner. Free software download. * Included USB cable. * Headphone jack is excellent, no noise, clean sound. * Nice and evenly lit LCD display. * Scanning stored channels is a breeze, and can be customized. * Temporary and Permanent lock out feature. * Informative Manual, lots of detail. Features that could be added or improved on: * A separate squelch knob would be fantastic. * A monitor button. * A full stop on frequency when searching. This would be nice so you dont have to have your finger resting on the hold button all the time. Overall, for the cost of this portable scanner, I am very impressed and recommend this as a first scanner to purchase and learn with. Just enough to keep you busy for months. I am surprised by the amount of analog activity that still exists around me.

I purchased this Uniden Bearcat Scanner in order to monitor Kansas City Southern and and Canadian National railroads in the Alexandria, Baton Rouge and New Orleans area as well as the Baton Rouge area NOAA Weather Radio frequency. The Uniden Bearcat Scanner works best with rechargeable NI-MH 2300 Mah batteries. The Scanner can also be powered by to Alkaline batteries but this type of doesn’t last long at all. After installing the two NI-MH 2300 Mah rechargeable batteries I haven’t had recharge yet. This Scanner has a built in sercuit, which charges the batteries when the Scanner is connected to your computer. The Scanner’s functions are straight forward and very easy to operate and understand. The Uniden Bearcat Scanner will also receive Fire/EMS and Louisiana Department of Corrections Statewide Scanner Frequency, meriner’s info frequency and area wide Ham frequency in our area as well as Baton Rouge Metropolitan airport Ryan Feild, but will not tune in police frequencies in this area as the police now use 800s Scanner frequencies for their added security. Al in all this Scanner is great tool to have during hurricane season.
