Scanner works great, we bought it since we were going to a NASCAR race and wanted to listen to the driver and crew radios. Bonus was we also got to listen to the race broadcast (less commercials...it was great hearing the announcers tell what they really thought during the commercial breaks). The problem is PROGRAMMING the thing. While I could get 3-4 channels programmed into the thing, it seemed to be more by luck than by following the directions. I also couldnt really get it to prioritize the crew channels over the broadcast channel (since the broadcast was nonstop) even using the priority mode (at least Im pretty sure I had the channel I wanted on priority. I havent used it since the race (and I plan on using it to monitor police, fire, and railroad) mainly because I want to find either a video or instructions that make more sense.

After having the Whistler which received from 5 to 10 miles out, the Uniden is great! It receives from at least 50 miles and more with the stock antenna. Unlike the Whistler, the Uniden is not as easy to use. But after programming who cares. I would give a 5 star if it was more user friendly. When it really comes down to it I want performance. It easily receives as well as my 2 way radios.

This is my first scanner. The menu options took some getting used to and you have to read and re-read the manual a couple of times, but once you learn how to scan, search and store frequencies you are all set. Size and weight wise, it is actually smaller and lighter than what I was expecting and that is of course a good thing. I dont have any information on the range it is catching, but I can hear all the incoming airline pilots who are landing at the airport close to where i live.

This unit eats batteries. AA alkaline do not last more than 6 hours. I will try rechargeable batteries. Another negative is, as others have said, it is not easy to program. I have some experience with scanning radios and bluffed my way through it but have a hunch I still dont understand all its features. It works for my limited purposes. Lastly, the clip is not very strong and the unit frequently falls from my best. So far, no breakage. On the good side, the reception is stronger than either a paging radio or the scanner I have. It seems to filter out some noise. I use it to monitor two (only) fire frequencies, as I work part time in a fire house with no in-house alarm system and I like to know when the troops are going to converge. It has good range and for a user who must keep track of many frequencies yet be able to set one as a priority, this works just fine. I would buy it again...four starts despite the shortcomings.

Very good device really easy to program there is a little static but good sound quality. It showed up quick everything looked great coming out of the box. One disclaimer I wish that it came with rechargeable battery in it i mean why come with a charger and not have rechargeable battery but besides that great device

Just opened the box and there is considerable corrosion in battery compartment. We will see if it works and have contacted the seller.

I love this scanner. I became the neighborhood captain and like to know what is going on around my area. I had an old scanner that worked great but had some issues with a beeping sound that interrupted the frequencies I was trying to listen to. I know Uniden makes great quality products so when I was looking for the new scanner I went straight for this brand. I am not disappointed. This scanner is very easy to program with the free computer program or even manually. There are 300 spaces to hold frequencies in. I dont think I will ever need that many but its nice to have. You can scan all the banks or just one. I believe this is a great quality scanner and very useful for my needs.

I needed a three band scanner for use at the Reno Air Races. Did some looking and found this one to be the best value of those that would serve the purpose. Installed a set of NiMH batteries which would last about 5 hours on a full charge. Rather than rely on battery power I connected it to a 30000mAh power bank and was able to use it all day long. Software was a little difficult to find but once I had it downloaded it was simple to program the frequencies I needed to monitor and setup the scan function to walk these channels. Only real downside is that the scanner will not charge the NiMH batteries while its on. Im pleased with the purchase and would recommend this scanner to any Reno Air Races attendee or volunteer whod like to be a bit more aware of whats going on behind the scenes.

So Far so Good! Listening to my local Tower almost right out of the box (with some reading of the directions)

The radio is fine and a decent price. It does not function on a trunk system so if your emergency services are using a trunk or digital system you will need a more advanced radio. I should have done more research before choosing which radio to purchase since I needed the more advanced model. That said, returning it was hassle free and the other radio is already being processed. Cant give it 5 stars since I never was able to really use it other than to listen into some HAM operators and the Weather Broadcasts.
