> 3 dayLots of one star reviews by people who refuse to read the instructions. You need to save every frequency you want the scanner to listen for, its not automatic. Most areas have dozens per agency so download the free software and use the usb cable and a computer to do it.

> 3 dayAfter having the Whistler which received from 5 to 10 miles out, the Uniden is great! It receives from at least 50 miles and more with the stock antenna. Unlike the Whistler, the Uniden is not as easy to use. But after programming who cares. I would give a 5 star if it was more user friendly. When it really comes down to it I want performance. It easily receives as well as my 2 way radios.

> 3 dayIt is a good scanner, as all the Uniden scanners are. Has the close call feature, made for narrow band, and is easy to program from the keyboard. Unfortunately I have been unable to find the programming software on their website. It claims that you can download it but the link address has nothing for a BC75XLT. Maybe it is available somewhere else. I would give a 5 star rating if this software was available.

Greater than one weekWell built and feature rich. Interface is a bit clumsy and unfriendly but they fit a lot of features into this little guy so thats to be expected. Do check and police/fire frequencies in your area of interest to make sure they are included in the ranges this scanner is designed for.

> 3 dayI was under the impression that this was a two-way device, but thats okay. I can delve into that technology later. I purchased this particular model with some apprehension after reading third party reviews saying that it would be difficult to program...then charging $100s to program. Thankfully I didnt solicit any of that help, but instead performed my own internet research and read the owners manual. The software that can be installed onto a computer to communicate with this scanner via USB is easy to understand and intuitive enough for the basic/advanced computer user. I still have a lot to learn about the different uses and technologies in general, but thats part of the fun.

Baton Rouge/New Orleans
> 3 dayI purchased this Uniden Bearcat Scanner in order to monitor Kansas City Southern and and Canadian National railroads in the Alexandria, Baton Rouge and New Orleans area as well as the Baton Rouge area NOAA Weather Radio frequency. The Uniden Bearcat Scanner works best with rechargeable NI-MH 2300 Mah batteries. The Scanner can also be powered by to Alkaline batteries but this type of doesn’t last long at all. After installing the two NI-MH 2300 Mah rechargeable batteries I haven’t had recharge yet. This Scanner has a built in sercuit, which charges the batteries when the Scanner is connected to your computer. The Scanner’s functions are straight forward and very easy to operate and understand. The Uniden Bearcat Scanner will also receive Fire/EMS and Louisiana Department of Corrections Statewide Scanner Frequency, meriner’s info frequency and area wide Ham frequency in our area as well as Baton Rouge Metropolitan airport Ryan Feild, but will not tune in police frequencies in this area as the police now use 800s Scanner frequencies for their added security. Al in all this Scanner is great tool to have during hurricane season.

Greater than one weekFor the price, this thing works great. I am a rail enthusiast, and this thing works great for use in the car when Im out looking for trains. The only thing I will say to detract from it is that the antenna that comes with the unit is not the best for any one frequency range just because of the design. An antenna designed to pick up such a wide range of frequencies is just not going to receive as well as one cut specifically for that frequency. Id recommend investing in an antenna more specifically attuned to the frequencies youll be scanning, but other than that, this is an excellent little scanner for the price!

> 3 dayI should have done my due diligence BEFORE buying this item. The equipment works well enough BUT the laws have changed dramatically since I was a kid. Most police agencies now use only encrypted vehicle-to-vehicle transmission. Seems like many emergency crews (fire and rescue, marine and air too) are going the same route. So not much traffic to pick up. No longer possible to listen in on the day-to-day chatter among police or fire crews in my area. (Southern California). Before YOU buy this unit, Google the frequencies in your area so you know how many are encrypted ... its likely that you wont be able to pick up much real-time emergency chatter anymore either.
