Also, this particular scanner, is not a digital scanner, like it is listed. It is analog. I am on able to pick up anything, in my area. TI just wish as a blind person that the blind erson could program the scanner without sighted help. I dont remember the brand name of the scanner but you can program it and it talks

This scanner is an upgrade from my old hand-held. Since I have all the frequencies, it was extremely easy to manually key them in. The top nob lets you advance the channels so you can set up the banks as you wish. Tried to do it with the software, but it seems my computer does not recognize the scanner. So think about this - you have to type the frequencies into your computer; but you can just as quickly input them directly into the scanner. For a first time user, I would recommend to take it easy, let the scan and search find frequencies or best, input channels you seriously want and then study the instruction manual. It can also be downloaded for easier reading. Happy scanning.

well it is a good handheld scanner, indoor use or handheld works pretty good. pick up police frequency with no problem. loud and clear. store frequency is easy. scan function is good. HOWEVER, dont try to use it in a car. i keep it in my car and while the car is moving in town, the result is not good anymore. so if you would like to use it in car, consider using an additional long car scanner antenna for it. i m guessing it would helps a lot. but overall, this is a good scanner.

Seemed like a good little scanner. The programming software was intuitive and easy to understand. There are plenty of helpful videos on YouTube that aided in the setup process. I ultimately returned the scanner because I live in an area that runs full digital 800mhz truncated emergency communication systems and this scanner is not compatible with 800mhz systems. Only four starts because I never really had a chance to actually use it so I cant say how well it works.

Scanner works great, we bought it since we were going to a NASCAR race and wanted to listen to the driver and crew radios. Bonus was we also got to listen to the race broadcast (less commercials...it was great hearing the announcers tell what they really thought during the commercial breaks). The problem is PROGRAMMING the thing. While I could get 3-4 channels programmed into the thing, it seemed to be more by luck than by following the directions. I also couldnt really get it to prioritize the crew channels over the broadcast channel (since the broadcast was nonstop) even using the priority mode (at least Im pretty sure I had the channel I wanted on priority. I havent used it since the race (and I plan on using it to monitor police, fire, and railroad) mainly because I want to find either a video or instructions that make more sense.

It is a classic and it works just as well as the one I purchased in 1997, it is just smaller and lighter. Works well, volume and squelch now have a dual switch action on the single knob-clever!

For the price, this thing works great. I am a rail enthusiast, and this thing works great for use in the car when Im out looking for trains. The only thing I will say to detract from it is that the antenna that comes with the unit is not the best for any one frequency range just because of the design. An antenna designed to pick up such a wide range of frequencies is just not going to receive as well as one cut specifically for that frequency. Id recommend investing in an antenna more specifically attuned to the frequencies youll be scanning, but other than that, this is an excellent little scanner for the price!

I love this scanner. I became the neighborhood captain and like to know what is going on around my area. I had an old scanner that worked great but had some issues with a beeping sound that interrupted the frequencies I was trying to listen to. I know Uniden makes great quality products so when I was looking for the new scanner I went straight for this brand. I am not disappointed. This scanner is very easy to program with the free computer program or even manually. There are 300 spaces to hold frequencies in. I dont think I will ever need that many but its nice to have. You can scan all the banks or just one. I believe this is a great quality scanner and very useful for my needs.

I bought this exclusively for railroad listening, and it works great. I live near several major rail yards, so proximity to the signals isnt an issue. As with things of this type, programming usually messes with my mind, but there are several great utube videos that make it easy. I programmed all 100 AAR freqs so no matter where I am, I can catch anything going on nearby. Battery life is just fine so far, as is the quality of the radio. I am very happy with this purchase!

Once you figure out the tricks, it works quite well. We use it for Train Spotting. Update, Nov 2018. This little unit still works great. Have had no problems with it at all. Once you learn how to select you frequency ranges, it works very well. We have had this for maybe 3 years.
