Yes, it works, and yes I consider it worth the 4x cost of a normal umbrella. I tried a normal umbrella, but noticed that I was getting a fair amount of heat from the direct rays. This is because the fabric absorbs the heat from the direct rays and then re-emits the heat under the shade of the umbrella (I have a BS in Physics and am a Licensed Engineer, and I have studied and used these thermodynamic principles in my line of work). I began searching for an umbrella with a reflective surface, since it would substantially reduce the problem of re-emitting heat under the umbrella. This umbrella does a very good job of this. It is also constructed well, and handles being inverted, due to tricky winds, with no failures to the structural components. It blocks most of the direct rays from the sun (you can still see a little bit of the sun through the cloth). You will still feel heat from the surroundings since the ground is hot and strongly emitting Infra-red heat, but you will get very good relief from the direct sunlight. While compact, this umbrella is a bit thicker and heavier than a normal compact umbrella. This is due to the reflective coating on the outside surface of the cloth. I have gotten used to this, especially when it blocks the sun so well. There are other reflective umbrellas out there for less cost. I dont know anything about them, and they may work okay, but I can vouch for this ones performance. It is a good alternative to putting on sunscreen and as a bonus it keeps sunscreen from polluting our water (which it does when you swim or bath).

Love this umbrella! My daily walks are an important part of my exercise program, but with triple digits and blazing sun, Ive had to miss a lot of them this summer. However, with this umbrella, I can now even take a walk at noon, which I just did today. There is a significant, palpable difference in the heat underneath; the mechanism to open and close works perfectly; its not too heavy (only about 1 lb.). I consider this one of the best purchases that Ive made in a long time and look forward to lots of healthy walks this summer.

This umbrella works exactly as advertised. The sun in Hawaii in the summertime can be brutal when its directly overhead and this umbrella provides cool shade wherever I happen to be. The reflective coating makes a very real difference. I have a very nice black Knirps compact umbrella and it provides shade but I can still feel the heat coming through. Its blocking the visible spectrum but the infrared is still coming through. The only con with it is that its a pain to fold this little umbrella up when Im through using it. Its got an added section on top thats supposed to keep it from turning inside out in the wind. That extra fabric has to be carefully folded before it can be rolled up small enough to fit in its bag. This takes time. So if youre in a hurry youve got a problem. I dont think that extra fabric provides enough function to justify it being part of the umbrella. Id like to see it fold up as quickly as my Knirps does. Bottom line is it provides enough added protection against the sun to justify the hassle folding it up. For me.

I used this in September in Jordan and Egypt where temperatures were, at times, well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. It was definitely effective in shielding from the blistering sun but be prepared that it is a bit heavier than a rain umbrella of similar size. A bit if a funky chemical odor too but I was grateful to have this as it allowed me to really enjoy the historical sights without melting

This umbrella does exactly what I wanted it to do. It keeps the sun off me and keeps me cooler. It’s a lifesaver for outdoor sporting events in the sun. I wanted this travel size for ease of carrying. It is a little on the heavy side, but so worth it!

The Cooling Sun Blocking Umbrella is working perfect for me. I use the little velcro strap to keep the wind from messing with my umbrella and the other thing that works (to keep wind from inverting the umbrella) is to always have the top of the umbrella facing whichever way the wind is blowing, hope this makes sense.

My wife as Lupus and cant spend too much time in the sun. So we have many solar protection products. This umbrella is a great product. For travel, you cant beat its compactness, light weight, and functionality. The blue underside is upbeat and the handle is very comfortable. We recently used it in South Carolina on vacation daily, during the heat wave - it was nearly 100 degrees every day! And this umbrella performed very well for sun protection while touring. Only slight downside is that, as others have stated, this umbrella does not do well in the wind. A strong wind (like at the beach) will cause it to invert - easy to fix but annoying. Since the canopy is vented for pressure relief, I think they could easily reinforce this umbrella to make it tolerate a good wind. But it is not bad enough to detract from the functionality as a good touring solar umbrella - just dont expect it to work at the beach or other windy situations. We also have a golf umbrella version of this umbrella that is totally wind proof, but it does not travel well. Overall, this ia a great umbrella and a welcome addition to our solar protection arsenal!

Glad I bought this. I walk every day and in the hot Georgia sun wearing a hat just isn’t enough. This solar protection umbrella is really all it says it is.

Your umbrellas are a great product, made well. I only returned it due to circumference. I am looking for a size about a 30 to 32 inch circumference. I walk a lot in crowded places and dont want the umbrella poking other walkers. Wear a hat you say. My head sweats profusely when donning a hat. I need a small u v umbrella. Can not seem to find one which is a personal parasol size, built strongly, and is made for rain fabric.

Saved my skin while in Hawaii! It was recently my first time there so I had no idea the sun was so piercing - I felt like one minute without sunscreen would cause me to start burning. Luckily I carried this umbrella wherever I go so I didnt always have to slather on sunscreen. It comes with a little case which I promptly discarded (because lets be honest, who is going to take the time and squeeze it back in?). It also has a bit of a weird smell at first but it goes away in a few days.
