> 3 dayTLDR; App is terrible and no support from manufacturer, but works okay via voice control and timer as long as you have wifi network that broadcasts separate 2.4ghz and 5ghz SSIDs. Will NOT work if you have a network that has a single SSID for both bands (e.g. Google WiFi and many mesh networks) Full review: I used two of these switches for about 10 months. As long as you have a WiFi network with a dedicated 2.4GHz SSID it will work, though the app is by far the worst app of all the smart device apps I have (out of ~10). Assuming you do get it setup and dont make any changes to WiFi settings it works well enough on a timer and with Alexa. After switching my WiFi network to Google WiFi, can no longer do the setup to connect switches to the network. There is no support from the manufacturer so you cant actually get help from them. Have gone over 3 weeks of emailing support contact without a response. In doing my own trouble shooting and research it seems that the device is not capable of working on any network where both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands are broadcast using the same SSID. I even tried forcing my phone to be connected to WiFi on the 2.4GHz band in order to do the setup (had to turn off nearby Google WiFi puck so I connected to the 2.4GHz band from a router farther away), but this still did not work. Very frustrating because the app does not provide any feedback or really show anything - there are no settings or other things you can try within it. It seems like an app that was created by a complete novice as a minimum viable product and has not been touched since. In my home smart devices including multiple Alexa echos, Google Home, Phillips Hue, TP Link, WeMo, Ecobee, Ring, FDT View, Amazon Cloud Cam.... all worked seamlessly with transition to Google WiFi, with these WiOn switches being the only problematic ones.

> 3 dayWorks very well. I have three of them. Has a timer function and an astronomical function, so for example you can have it turn ON at sunset and OFF at 11pm. I have one controlling a webcam that’s set up to turn on at sunrise and off at sunset. Another controls landscape lighting that goes on 30 minutes after sunset and off at 10:30pm. The third controls a heated doormat, which I set to come on at 11:59 am and off at noon — I actually only use this occasionally so I turn it on manually and the noon setting is just to turn it off automatically if I forget to turn it off manually. My only complaint is that the manual doesn’t tell you how to change to a new Wi-Fi signal, but if you scan reviews you can find how to do that.

04-06-2025Ive used this WiOn outdoor wireless Plug-In for a year now to control my dog house heaters while Im at work. I wanted the heaters to be on in the chilly mornings, but off later in the day when it warmed up. This product is perfect: I control it from the WiOn app on m iPhone. I turn the outdoor heater before I leave for work and then anytime later via the app, turn it off! This model doesnt have its own timer but that is a small matter to control the off/on myself. Its a good and simple, and Ilike that. Ive had zero problems. I recall having a bit of a problem syncing it up the first time, but I tried a couple times and it worked; I didnt have to call support or anything. I bought this item on faith because it was reasonably priced, especially compared to the many other products of this sort, plus it seemed to have a lot of satisfied purchasers, and Ive been completely happy with it.

> 3 dayAfter a few days of use, I can say this: The actual hardware works. The problem is the app. Example: I wanted to have it run for an hour from 11:30 p.m. It claims a countdown timer. So I set the countdown timer, and, in doing so, it looked like this: Start 11:30 p.m. 4/21/17. Stop 12:30 a.m. 4/21/17. Noticing that this would run for about ... 100 years, I manually changed the stop time to 12:30 a.m. 4/22/17. Then I waited. It didnt turn off at 12:30 a.m. on 4/22. More experimentation is in order, but my tentative guess is that DESPITE what the timer said (about 12:30 the same day), it had originally been set for an hour, and that by changing the date, I messed this up in some way. My conclusion, however, is that whoever programmed the app did not consider the possibility of a timer running past midnight, and just set it up wrong. Which is a shame because, otherwise, this thing is EXACTLY what I wanted. I dont have it controlling lights, I have it controlling the circulation pump for my hot water heater. (The pump was initially on a timer, but I got annoyed with having to run outside the house any time I wanted hot water outside the timer hours.) I have it set for a morning shower sort of timer, which (so far) has been turning on and off exactly as programmed. It also has no difficulty with just turning the pump on and off from the app (which saves me from the run-outside thing I was trying to avoid). The only place where it has fallen down on the job (so far) is if I want to turn it on for a couple hours at night (to, say, have the dishwasher running overnight). But I quite like it. I may acquire a second one for the holiday lights.

> 3 dayI was looking for a smart switch that would work out on my patio for hanging lights in the summer and Christmas lights in the winter! The location it would be in would not be super exposed to the elements, but it wouldnt be fully protected either. So my guidelines were that it needed to be quality, interface with my Amazon Echo, interface with my Google Home, be safe to keep plugged in continuously, and perform without fail. Upon first opening the box you find that its of a very good quality and I didnt have any worries that it would be safe out on the porch. The device itself works flawlessly and I have yet to fail to respond to commands from the device app or from my Amazon Echo. Where it fails however is from my Google home, its not supported as you would expect unfortunately, but maybe in the future (hint hint Google!) The app that pairs with the device does what it needs to do, but with very little frills. The app is cheesy and kind of outdated looking, but it does offer basic on/off functionality as well as timers etc. One thing I want to point out as Ive noticed some people asking about it, both outlets are controlled at the same time, there is no on for one, off for the other. Overall, Im happy with the device itself, I knocked off 1 star just because it doesnt support Google Assistant and for the app, but dont let that hold you back, it does what it needs to do outdoors safely.

> 3 dayI absolutely LOVE this product!! I have been accused of being Clark W. Griswold with my Christmas lights. I have exterior lights on four different circuits with a WiOn on each circuit, and I can control the on and off times down to the minute. I can program them to come on mulitple times during a 24-hour period and can even select days on which the lights will come on or stay off. I can control it remotely through the app on my smartphone even while Im away from the house and not directly connected to my home wifi. Set up is easy with the provided instructions. I HIGHLY recommend this product for anyone wishing to precisely control on and off times of outdoor electrical items.

Greater than one weekBought a few of these years ago and had a good experience. I bought another one to replace one but this one wouldn’t connect. Kept. “Looking for server” so I called customer service and they gave me some bs about “I’m level 2 and this requires a level 5 technician” I know the trick because I called several times and got the same responses. The trick is “when we bump you to level 5, it’s a $55 dollar one time fee”. Makes no sense- that’s more than I paid for the actual device and wreaks of fraud. I asked what they would do and one said they would connect to it and upload a patch to the device. But how can they upload to the device if I can’t connect to the device? Super disappointed and I ended up returning. The other 3 still work so I’m not putting 1 star but buyer beware now

> 3 dayused on outdoor plug that controls a fountain. wanted to be able to turn off fountain remotely if I left for weekend, etc. and forgot to turn off. ( dont want to ruing pump with no water). Works great. App was easy to install on iphone and easy to connect to Wi-fi. would work well for Christmas lights too. Since I have a couple different home automation items I have combined them in their own folder on iphone so they are easy to find.

> 3 dayI ordered two of these. One is still working perfectly, the second one was pretty much bad out of the box. I dont use these very often, mostly just for decor lighting during holidays. It displayed a red light for power and the wi fi light would blink but never recognize in the list of wifi connections. I also tried it at work just to rule out the connection portion. I just got around to fiddling with the 2nd one to see what the problem was as it wouldnt reset. Following the advise of some other users, I began to unscrew the back cover only to see a SCREW THAT WAS ALREADY STRIPPED. Which leads me to believe the 2nd one I bought was merely recycled damaged goods. I was able to get the cover off and noticed that a soldered connection fell off upon opening. Having two full time jobs I dont have time to get the soldering kit out so wont be rebuying these. Buyer beware.

> 3 dayI have two of these. One for outdoor lights, the other for a water fountain. Every day they come in, every day at the set time, they turn off. You loose power and restore, and all settings stay saved. If you would like to manually turn them ON or OFF, just open the app and tap the button. It is a head turner on any back yard party!!! I WOULD BUY IT AGAIN AND RECOMMEND ANYTIME!
