> 3 dayIm very positively impressed with the construction and function of this Hakko iron. The iron itself is very light and fits my hand well. The silicon clad wire to the control unit is very pliable and allows manipulation of the iron effortlessly. You dont feel a stiff heavy cord pulling at the back of the iron as you work. The controller maintains the tip temperature very accurately as far as I can tell and changing the temperature is a breeze. Would recommend this unit and buy it again in a heartbeat.

> 3 dayThis is definitely one of those I should have done this years ago purchases. It gets up to temperature very quickly, holds the temperature steadily, and does a perfect job every time. Its good for small soldering jobs and with the chisel tip can solder 12 gauge stranded wire well, too. I use this mostly for RC car projects and LED lights.

16-04-2025This is a great little soldering station. It heats quickly, and I really like the integral cleaning wire built into the base. I am only subtracting one star because I think the digital controls are annoying. Switching back and forth between preset mode and manual mode is not intuitive or user friendly, and in manual mode it takes many separate clicks to tweak the iron temperature. This iron would be perfect if the put back on a dial, and maybe a dedicated manual/preset mode button. Having to reboot the device and navigate a cryptic menu system to switch modes is a pain. (I have to pull out the manual whenever I want to do it!)

> 3 dayThis is a really nice soldering station. It heats to soldering temperature in about 30 seconds. Very well made and designed. Holds temperature very well.

> 3 dayI was skeptical about this soldering station at first as it does look a bit like a toy to me instead of something more industrial/professional. I was also unfamiliar with the brand name until recently. I checked all the reviews I could find on it online and they all highly recommended it. It heats up very quickly and has enough heat capactity (65 watts) to easily solder 10 gauge wires to terminals. It would be very difficuly if not impossible to do with my old soldering station which only puts out 22 watts. The pen itself is comfortable and doesnt get hot even after the iron is left on for 30 minutes. The tips are fantastic and they have a variety of shapes and sizes available for most any job. I like the digital display that reads out the temperature and makes changing the settings easy. If you are thinking of a new soldering station and are a bit hesitant like I was, take the plunge and get this one. You wont regret it!

12-04-2025I am an Electric Engineer of 45 years with much soldering experience. I have to say, the Hakko FX888D-23Y soldering station that I purchased from B+D Enterprises through Amazon is priced and built well and performs as well or better than the Weller (or many other similar) soldering stations in the same or even higher price range. The product I purchased from Amazon is the genuine Hakko product (not a counterfeit one!) which I bought for my home work bench because my old Weller soldering station heating element died. I was thinking about getting another Weller, but was disenchanted with the quality, price and many reviews from buyers who were not happy with the quality or reliability of the more recent Weller products (It seems Weller quality and reliability has suffered in the past decade). My Hakko FX888D has a very wide, controlled temperature range and reaches the desired temperature very quickly (<30 seconds) and holds it well even when soldering something that has a lot of thermal mass. I really like the compact size and the separate soldering stand for the soldering pencil. Having the solder cleaning sponge and cleaning wire in the stand is really nice too! The soldering pencil is also compact, lightweight and very comfortable to hold. The users manual was awkward but, with some effort, I was able to figure everything out. I strongly recommend downloading the latest online version of the users manual because it is much more complete than the instructions that shipped with the product. Yes, the temperature can be manually adjusted, but I like having the five temperature presets, which are custom programable and it is a breeze to quickly choose one of the desired temperatures. Once its set up, its very easy to use. I also do RC airplane modeling, so I set one of my presets to 500 deg. F, which is a good temperature for well controlled cutting and melting of holes in plastic without burning it. If you buy the Hakko FX888D soldering station, I dont think you would be disappointed. > 3 dayAs a hobbyist, I never realized soldering didnt need to be a chore until I got this iron; I cant believe the difference a good iron makes when working on repairing chargers, amplifiers, etc. Wouldnt trade mine for anything. The extra tips are great too, the smaller chisel tips work much better than a typical conical tip for 1/4watt applications and larger. Truly wonderful product.

Greater than one weekPurchased primarily for circuit board and electronic equipment use. My unit came with additional tips which I recommend. When used in my radio hobby some components in kits are very close to each other. It is really nice to be able to adjust the tip temperature to ensure good solder flow without damaging adjacent components. With the right tip this unit will work well with surface mount components and fairly heavy gauge wire, such as twelve gauge. I give this unit five stars for value because, although not inexpensive, it will prove its worth in many applications and is very well constructed. Before settling for a cheaper iron, save your nickles and dimes and get this unit. You will thank yourself every time you use it.
