> 3 dayIm not sure what happened to the filament quality since I purchased the Dremel 3D40 back in 2016. Somewhere along the line, Dremel (or more accurately, their filament supplier) dropped the ball. While I have nothing but good things to say about the 3D40 and the Dremel tech support staff, I cant at this point say ANYTHING good about their filament. IT IS COMPLETE GARBAGE! A brand new spool will generally print fine, and prints fine, but you either need to use the whole spool at once or make the time to 3D print something every day. If the filament is left unused in the printer for more than a couple of days, it begins to break in places. All too often, it will break mid-print. One spool came dried out/broken despite its being sealed. I have already all of pointed this out to Dremel tech support and I think theyre aware of it, but nothing has been done to improve the quality of the filament. They suggested putting a bag of dessicant inside the printer. I have a dozen bags of dessicant, and nothing has changed. I print in a climate controlled environment, so I dont see what the problem might be. I took the liberty of printing a filament adapter and will be trying a quality 3rd party filament shortly. Has anyone else had this problem? Hopefully Dremel slaps/changes their filament supplier soon, because the reputation of an otherwise excellent printer is at stake...

> 3 dayThe material itself is pretty decent. The finished parts are strong, have good interlayer adhesion, and look pretty nice. Under ideal circumstances this is a great product. However, the ideal circumstances are about the first 25-30% of the spool. PLA is known to be brittle and this filament has a great deal of shape memory, retaining the curve of its winding around the spool. At the beginning of the spool thats not a very tight arc but the arc gets tighter as you progress through the spool. This means the filament becomes resistant to the changes in direction as it is pulled into the extruder. Eventually the arc is so tight it tries to retract unto the spool, making it difficult for the extruder to pull in and leading to under extrusions. As others have shown when left to sit the tension on the inherent bend leads to the filament snapping. While I havent had this happen during a print it does mean I have to go through the change filament process every time I start a print. This filament is a good choice for parts where you need good mechanical performance and can tolerate some aesthetic flaws.

Greater than one weekI love this Dremel brand Gold filament. Ive printed an entire tavern for D&D games. It looks awesome with some washes painted over. I experienced very few printing issues with this metallic filament, other brands Ive tried came with multiple failures. Thanks Dremel.

> 3 dayThe products quality does not distinguish it enough in order to justify the expense. $50 a kilogram is simply too expensive.

> 3 dayDremel dropped the ball with their PLA. It is very brittle and basically shatters as it is fed through the printer. luckily the 3d45 can detect when the filament is no longer feeding and will stop, my 3d20 does NOT, and so itll continue and eventually burn the hot end. Weve contacted dremel many times about this and theyve sent me free spools to compensate. But those free spools also break many times. They also told me they updated their formula and the problem was fixed.. its better now.. but still breaks too many times. Went with amazon basics filament with an external spool holder
