Printed well enough but the final color left alot to be desired. Basically just brown.

The printer itself is a good deal for the money, the filament is another story. They arent chipped, but they are smaller than normal spools with a very small hub to fit inside the printer, so 3rd party spools will not fit. Having the spool inside is actually kind of nice and price per spool is not too much different than other filament. The problem I have is the quality control on the filament is abysmal. I have had 2 separate rolls with giant, random blobs where the filament diameter was suddenly double. This instantly jams the extruder to the point that I had to disassemble it. Another roll was horribly tangled right out of the package and kept knotting itself up. Another roll was wavy instead of straight and kept causing jams. Another problem with the small rolls is as you get to the end, the filament is curved so tightly that it tends to snap going into the feed tube. This is an easy fix, as you can download and print an external spool hanger and use anything you want. Try looking on Thingiverse for a download.

Same orangey-red like the other so-called reds. Not a cherry or Christmas red.

    It does the job well.

The material itself is pretty decent. The finished parts are strong, have good interlayer adhesion, and look pretty nice. Under ideal circumstances this is a great product. However, the ideal circumstances are about the first 25-30% of the spool. PLA is known to be brittle and this filament has a great deal of shape memory, retaining the curve of its winding around the spool. At the beginning of the spool thats not a very tight arc but the arc gets tighter as you progress through the spool. This means the filament becomes resistant to the changes in direction as it is pulled into the extruder. Eventually the arc is so tight it tries to retract unto the spool, making it difficult for the extruder to pull in and leading to under extrusions. As others have shown when left to sit the tension on the inherent bend leads to the filament snapping. While I havent had this happen during a print it does mean I have to go through the change filament process every time I start a print. This filament is a good choice for parts where you need good mechanical performance and can tolerate some aesthetic flaws.

Perfect for what i need, it fits and is impressive the way it does all it is suppose to do.

Like all of the other Dremel PLA Ive used in my Digilab 3D45, this filament breaks between every couple of uses if it is not used for more than 2 days at a time (it snaps apart in 2 or more places due to the strong circular shape memory and brittleness of the filament). This happens in up to 3 places: inside the guide tube, outside the guide tube, and near the extruder. I dont have this problem with any other brands of filaments in my other non-dremel 3D printer. Ive contacted Dremel support about this issue earlier this year with the silver PLA and they sent me a free replacement spool of equally brittle filament that results in a lot of waste as I have to cut and re-load about 6 inches of filament fragments apart every single time I print after not printing for a couple of days. I was hoping it was just a problem with the silver dremel PLA but it occurs with the red as well apparently. PLA is not known for its flexibility but it should at least not break while its on the spool, before its even used to print anything. I maintain a low-moisture room where my printing occurs, so its not filament spoilage from my local environment, and the desiccant pack was intact, this is not the first spool this has happened with, so I think Dremel just has a faulty formula for their PLA. Its a shame at the high price they charge for it. Its the most problematic and brittle filament Ive ever used, but at least it doesnt cause any jams and seems uniform in width. Ive lost over 3 feet of this spool so far to breakage since I received it on Nov 28th. I only use it because using non-dremel filaments requires an outside spool holder and will void my Dremel printer warranty and Im not ready to do that yet.

There may be a problem with purple, or we may have gotten a bad batch. Were using the 3d45 and loving it, success with red, white, black, and blue in pla and decent prints in eco-abs and nylon (I think the stuff in the printer box that first comes with it may be old or have been sitting around). But then theres purple. Prints are stiff and harder than other colors, and the strand is prone to breakage. The last 2/5ths of the reel just snap, snarle and split. Maybe a bad batch, but watch out for stiffness.

This filament prints great. The only down fall is it cost more than most other filaments.

The products quality does not distinguish it enough in order to justify the expense. $50 a kilogram is simply too expensive.
