Greater than one weekJapanese watercolors are different from the rest of the world. These paints never dry leaving harsh lines (barely any granulation), making this set perfect for beginners and professionals alike. Take a peek at the pictures Ive uploaded & and see if you can tell the difference in which paintings I used the Kuretake brand versus European brands. There are only three. Scroll down to see which: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1. The slender house. 2. The girl with the red hat walking her dog down the snowy path 3. The little birdie that just landed on the branch (*framed) Did you guess right?

> 3 dayIf you’re looking for traditional, translucent watercolor paints then this set isn’t for you. If you’re looking for something new, then try these traditional Japanese paints. The pans are nice and big, so your brush doesn’t get all jammed up like in an almost-empty watercolor half-pan. The colors are nice and the paint is a little opaque. Some of the colors feel almost chalky and some have a sheen to them when dried.

Greater than one weekI’m a watercolorist and wanted a more opaque paint that wasn’t gouache. They take some getting use too, you can’t approach them the same was as watercolor. A little goes a long way and they blend so beautifully. I paint with watercolor and then use my kuretake for my darks and my opaque pops of color. I highly recommend. They aren’t lightfast, so I would recommend a varnish if possible.
