The picture quality is excellent. However, I tried to daisychain this to another monitor and couldnt get it to work. I wish LG had better instructions regarding this. In general, the menu buttons and design could use improvement. Over all, Im sort of happy with it.

After much research, I ended up buying this monitor graphic design. I watched a ton of videos and read so many reviews. Nothing seemed perfect...as what I really want is my old Apple Cinema 27 cinema display! (Ive been through 2 of those and both didnt work well with my new MacBook pro. The connection wasnt reliable and the screen would blackout. I got rid of both of them and decided I needed to move on.) This monitor was really the only one I could stomach from an aesthetic point of view, but I was worried because I read about some of the color issues in the reviews. I was looking to spend under $500. The Dells are highly rated, but they were more expensive and not as nice looking. Onward to my experience and addressing some of the issues I saw in the reviews: 1) Some reviewers said the stand is flimsy. Its not as great or solid as the mac stand, but its fine and sturdy enough. No issues here. 2) One reviewer mentioned that her display was tilted a bit and she couldnt get it straight. Mine was tilted a bit, but just put a little muscle into it and got it straight no problem. 3) The font on the display was way too large. I found a setting in systems preferences to make it smaller, looks normal and crisp now. 4) A few mentioned that the color is off, they are too bright and saturated, almost neon. I did experience this. In order to fix it, I did as some reviewers recommended and turned off the High Dynamic Range setting in the display preferences. 5) Also, It was confusing when I first plugged in the display. A menu associated with the display (so not controlled by my mac) was asking me to select ok. Without my cursor from the mac, I couldnt do this. That is when I discovered the important power switch and setting switch on the monitor under the LG logo. The controls on this switch are very clunky, but after spending about 15 minutes with it I could see where I can adjust the brightness and some other settings. 6) This monitor comes with speakers, but you cant control the sound from your macbook pro. Since Im using this at home for work, I was frustrated when I wanted to listen to a podcast and the sound came in through the display too loud. There is an adjustment with the settings under the LG logo on the display, but thats a hassle. So I went into system preferences on my Mac and changed the setting back to MacBook Pro Speakers, so now the sound is coming through my MacBook and I can easily adjust the sound. So if you are like me and using this for work/design, you might as well save some money and get the version without speakers. So the bottom line is it took about an hour to fiddle with settings until I got a good-looking image that matches my MacBook Pro. I just got the monitor today, so Ill add to this review if I come across any issues. (I dont add to this it means that I like the monitor and its working fine for my needs as a graphic designer.)

I use this monitor to edit in Lightroom and Final Cut and it is really good especially because I can connect my MacBook to it via thunderbolt. The only time I see issues is when im gaming! The the monitor sometimes glitches and its not very good with dark settings but other than that the colors are perfect if youre just editing or making content.

The screen itself is pretty good in most aspects for the price, except HDR. I tested the monitor with Windows, Mac, PS4, and PS5 in HDR, the colors just do not look right compared to my TV (Sony X900H), no matter how I tune the gamma, contrast, and so on. Peak brightness is okay, but the minimum brightness can be too bright under low light conditions, it is still pretty high compared to the MacBook that I mainly use this screen with. The stand is pretty nice, the screen can be mounted and unmounted quickly, and the screen can be rotated vertically. Although it can only be rotated clockwise by 90°, you cant rotate it counterclockwise, which can be a problem if you had a multi-screen setup and decided to put this monitor closely to the right of another one, the menu joystick at the bottom of the screen would be hard to reach. Speaking of the menu joystick, its not the easiest thing to use, I would prefer a few buttons.

This review is for the LG 27UN850, which Ive been using for a couple months as a usb c monitor with the MSI Prestige 15 laptop. The one star reduction has nothing to do with the image quality, which is excellent for my non photography use. I knew the short comings of the monitor, and I still bought it, because its such a good value for the price. The shortcomings in my use are: 1) No hardwired ethernet connection on the monitor. No big deal if you have primo ethernet into your location and good wifi coverage. I dont, and need a hard wired connection. This causes you to burn one usb c port for use as an ethernet connection or a full blown extra usb c hub. 2) Only 50W charging capability. The MSI Prestige has an 82W battery, and can go dead, mainly while gaming, unless the dedicated usb c charger is used. So I need 3 usb c ports on the laptop to fully cover my needs, but as in most laptops, I only have two. 3) I found out, and using a youtube found fix, issues related to laptop battery profiles when using usb c external devices like this monitor. It drove me crazy for a while, the constant ding of disconnect, then immediately ding for reconnect. Not the monitors fault, but fault of usb c mode connection. I havent tried using usb c to display port connection with this monitor, and dont know if that mode would solve some of the problems. A Windows 10 shortcoming when using the monitor as a second monitor. There is no selection to allow the laptop screen as Monitor 1 and the LG as Monitor 2, using them independently. You can either mirror, or use 1 alone or 2 alone. As for big plus, I love the joystick for manipulating all the monitor functions. It took a few days to warm up to it, but now monitors with a row of buttons seem old fashioned and hard to use.

I ordered this monitor hoping to save some space and money over going the route of a traditional 4K monitor and a USB-C/Thunderbolt docking station for my macbook. I was hoping to be able to use one cable for video, data and charging. It works, most of the time, but the USB-C features on this monitor have some frustrating issues. The monitor has issues charging my macbook, sometimes dropping the charge current to less than 10 watts, or other times stopping it entirely, which can only be resolved by power cycling the monitor. Im not sure what the power rating of the USB-A ports on the back of the monitor is. They work well enough with thumb drives, graphic tablets, keyboard & Mice, other low current items, but trying to charge an iphone from them causes a USB power error message to pop up. The audio output on the monitor is not always detected by my laptop, and often requires disconnecting and reconnecting the USB-C cable to get it to work. The mute and volume keys on the apple keyboard are disabled when using the monitors audio output which is a common problem with many cheaper digital audio interfaces, but is still frustrating when compared to dedicated desktop hubs, or USB-C monitors from Dell or Apple which still allow you to use these keys. I downloaded the software package from LG hoping that it would include drivers to enable these features or improve the reliability of the other USB-C features but it does not change anything. The display itself is gorgeous and I have no problems or complaint with it as just a monitor, but I think the USB-C implementation fails to justify its added cost over the displayport only version of the same monitor. Im making it work but will probably purchase a thunderbolt 3 hub eventually to hopefully handle charging and audio more reliably. I love the image quality of the 4k display but if I were to do it again I would either get the cheaper displayport only version of the monitor and an external hub or look at options from Dell or another manufacturer.

This is likely the best monitor that Ive owned. Color, brightness and image definition are excellent. The speakers are oriented away from the user. That is less than ideal. Ful disclosure, I seldom have audio on when operating my desktop. My main gripe is the on/off button. It has dual functionality in that it is also used to access various monitor controls. Not infrequently when I try to power the monitor off, it instead brings up a control menu. A bit annoying. Id prefer two buttons.

Purchased this monitor for my M1 Macbook Air and Xbox Series X. I love being able to connect only one USB C cable to my mac for power and video. The control knob is simple and just works. The monitor has a great port selection but I have not tested the USB hub for transfer speeds with my laptop. The stand feels solid and I like having the monitor up higher so my laptop screen can be open directly beneath. The included cable management clip is cheap but it works well enough. Hopefully, this monitor lasts me for years as Im a big fan. Works great for 4k @60hz on the Xbox Series X.

I purchased this monitor to get more screen real estate for working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its great to be able to have a Zoom or Teams meeting going, have a document or browser window open, and to be able to keep an eye on my email without having to constantly minimize or move windows around. The image quality is excellent - very sharp and clear with natural looking color. Contrast is also very good, although black levels are not as good as on a higher end modern television or mobile device with an OLED panel. But, you really only notice at night in a darker room. The matte screen also lets me have my home office setup in front of a set of windows without fighting glare. Onscreen text looks great, and the night mode preset that lowers brightness levels and shifts whites to a warmer hue is also nice when working late. Video looks very good, although I havent been able to get Netflix and Amazon to stream to the monitor in 4K. Im using the latest and greatest version of usb-c to connect to a late-model HP laptop. If anyone has troubleshooting tips, let me know. But, non-protected 4k content from sites like YouTube looks great. This monitor doesnt have a high refresh rate by 2020 standards, though, so gamers and people watching live sports might be happier looking elsewhere. The 2-way adjustability of this monitor makes it really comfortable to use for long workdays. The stand is also surprisingly solid and more premium than it looks in the photos. I assumed it would be plastic, but its metal. So, I have no worries about accidentally tipping the monitor off my desk when adjusting the screen. It is also ingeniously simple to assemble without tools or messing with a bunch of little screws. Overall, this is an almost ideal monitor for working from home, and LG seems to have prioritized productivity over entertainment in its design choices, which is great for me. It has a modern, minimalist design compared to a lot of other options with overwrought styling intended to appeal to gamers, which is nice since my office is also our family room. And, IMHO, matte screens are MUCH more pleasant for reading and writing than glossy models. Highly recommended.
