Other reviews are accurate. This isnt the same as the old mx mouses. It just doesnt feel solid like before. Minor squeaks, and a little stick in the scroll..

I got this mouse even though I already have the Logitech Hero G502 Hero mostly out of nostalgia for the ones Ive had like it in the past. When I first got the G502 it felt different, I wasnt used to it, so I always wanted something more like the MX518, but after trying it all over again I realize I like my G502 better, which feels better in my hand and has the thumb rest as well. Nothing wrong the the MX518 and thats why Im still giving it 5 stars, just a matter of preference, but if you ask me, get the Logitech G502 Hero, even if you arent a gamer.

Call it what you want, the MX518/G400/G400S/MX518 Legendary keeps coming back for good reason: its a dead simple mouse with no frills and a whole lot of heft for those with hands on the larger side (And by hands I mean hand, lefties are left out on this design unfortunately) or those that prefer their mice to have some weight. Set the DPI to 800, turn the polling rate to 1,000 Hz, turn off smoothing and acceleration and youve got a mouse FPS junkies have been trusting for 15 years. As always, the thin cable is the weak spot on this line, but having used a G Pro for 3 years with the heavy braided cable constantly getting stuck on everything without it being bungeed up, Id rather just be gentle with a thinner and lighter cable. Pros: +Ergos, size and weight best described as Its chonk. Those with larger hands or those that like to rest their hand on the mouse will come back to this mouse like a long lost friend. This has to be Logitechs longest running gaming mouse both in years and number of refreshes. +Unlike the G Pro, that heft helps it to not be bullied by its cable. The thin, rubber cable also doesnt get stuck on things nearly as much as the Pros braided cable. +Sensors have been updated to Logitechs latest, but I cant tell the difference from my G400S or G Pro. You still dont have to worry about angle snapping. YMMV: #Logitechs G Hub sucks but thats not necessarily this mouses fault. Unless you need to be frequently messing with this or other devices settings, feel free to save your settings to the mouses internal memory and uninstall G Hub to save 250 Megs. You certainly wont need lighting settings or anything. #This is personal taste but the G branding is boring. Logitech had a chance to shout out the MX518s old Logitech logo on the mouse and with the included sticker but didnt. I do like the new glossy silver fade-to-black design and prefer it to the old 518s quicksilver design. Cons: -Ergos, size and weight best described as dated. Those with smaller hands, those that claw grip, lefties, weaker hands etc, will find that theyve purchased a brick with 2005s idea of what a hand should contour to. -The cable is still going to be what fails first. Its thin, rubber and connected to the mouse with only a bit of strain relief. Theres replacement cables and feet out there if youre in need. -The G400S had a kind of tacky rubbery feeling to its outer shell and sides? The MX518L is all glossy plastic and hard plastic on the sides. Not great for sweaty hands.

This mouse has the same finely sculpted ergonomics as the old MX518, but with a much better sensor. The body is a bit lighter, which isnt particularly good if youre used to filling up all the weight cartridges on the tunable mice, which is a feature this mouse does not have. The shell is identical to the MX518, but with different materials and a different finish. The sides are nice textured plastic. The top is an extremely high-gloss surface that is very eye-catching, but this is where my one gripe comes in. Who the heck designed this finish? The glossy, lightly adherent finish attracts skin oils like nothing else. I have literally watched the clickers on this mouse gum up in minutes, right before my very eyes. The only way to avoid instantly fouling the top surface of this thing with skin oils would be to literally scrub your fingertips with a pumice stone every morning. Did they even test this thing, and if they did, were they wearing white cotton museum keeper gloves the entire time? Disappointing.

I bought the original MX518 in 2009 and it lasted me until 2020. 11 years! I had to replace it with another MX518 and it timed up perfectly with the new release of the MX518. I thought I was lucky. Most of what made the original MX518 great was how durable it was. Again, 11 years! The moment I got the new one, I couldnt help but notice the cord on it is absolutely pitiful compared to the old mouse. And lo and behold, my kitten chewed through it. The mouse is still functional, but if the cords quality is bad, I assume the rest of the mouse was made as cheaply as possible. I honestly think I could break through this cord with my fingernails. This mouse came from Logitech so its not an issue of 3rd party seller. Logitech, please dont cut corners on quality. I have $3 usb-c cords with thicker covering than this $60 mouse.

The original MX 518 was infamous in the days when Counter Strike 1.6/Source reigned as the go-to competitive FPS. The original served me well for many a year, and when the refresh was released it only made sense to give it a try. The end result is ok. The weight is slightly off compared to the original, and the sensor while good initially had some issues. Still a good mouse for those with larger hands that favor a right-hand palm grip, but doesnt shine nearly as much in the face of competition as it used to.

My original MX518 lasted 8+ years. This lasting 5 months is pathetic.

Its overall pretty nice. Although for how much this thing costs it feels pretty flimsy. The buttons also just stick anything onto it and can get dirty easily, nothing like any mouse Ive ever used. It feels a bit awkward for my ring finger like it has nowhere to go but I ended up clawing the thing the whole time anyways. I always use the middle mouse button to open and close links/tabs and the button started to give away and make a crunched plastic sound but it did go away somehow which was cool... If this product costs maybe half what it is then Id definitely recommend and give 5 stars but it does have some flaws. It performs nicely though its just the flaws really stick to my mind.

Lets talk about the logo badge on the palm rest. The badge is placed where it sits in direct contact with my hand at all times while using it(12+ hours a day often as not.) It has a thin, fragile plastic coating- Ive had it less than a month and the edges are already wearing off. Under that plastic is a soft metal with no corrosion or abrasion resistance, on a part that is being rubbed by an acidic hand 12+ hours a day. The picture attached is of my G400s which this replaced- same chassis, same badge, and what happened with the badge- the metal wore through and formed a razor sharp edge, forcing me to pry what was left of the badge off and leave an ugly hole in the palm of the mouse. The same thing will happen to this one. Logitech doesnt use their own products and it shows really badly with an issue like this. Im thinking about prying the badge off now and filling the void with epoxy since Logitech obviously isnt going to fix this problem after at least half a decade Update! The coating already came off. Reminder I purchased this only a month ago. It was flaking off on my hand and when I tried to brush off the flaky part the rest of it just wiped off the smooth metal. Its thinner than saran wrap and cant adhere to the polished metal at all. The corrosion has already started. They actually even CHANGED THE LOGO they use on the badge, but didnt fix this obvious defect. Im just going to make this one star- the mouse is fine but that might as well be an accident with this level of carelessness. Make the palm smooth plastic. No badge. No metal. Reasons obvious.

This is a fine mouse for the money, as it has it were it counts. The buttons feel good and are responsive, the weight of the mouse is good, and the tracking sensor is reliable. The build quality isnt perfect however. The mouse to me is very ugly with the grey plastic having a cheap sparkle to it. The plastic used in both the grey portion and the black outer portion feel a little cheap, however they seem sturdy enough after using the mouse a bit. The cord is also unwrapped, which is a little bothersome, but not a deal breaker. My biggest concern is that the mouse is build for a 1-3-1 hold, meaning three fingers should sit on top of the mouse. This was pretty uncomfortable to me as I had always used a 1-2-2 hold. I adapted pretty quickly, as I did not want to return the mouse, but others may not want to try and use a mouse unsuited to their preferences. Overall, it is a very good mouse for the price if it fits the hand, if not and you are unwilling to relearn the grip, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
