What was once the best mouse around - is now a creaky, noisy, mess. Upon arrival, the mouse wheel scrolling BACKWARD would create a loud grindy squeak sound. Extremely unpleasant.

The MX518 form has always been my favorite. Seems reasonably durable but all do seem to eventually suffer from the dreaded Logitech double click problem. Cheap as chips though, I have 3 spares in case they stop making them again.

There is a reason why these where brought back, and NOS ones in the years they where not made went for 1,000USD. Simply the perfect mouse.

Great mouse that feels just like the classic, but with modern features and better specs. I had moved away from Logitech mice over the years as I wasnt a fan of the design and feel of the modern lineup, but as soon as I saw the mx518 was back, I had to get it. Although the glossy material looks and feels good, it is a smudge magnet. Often requires cleaning, but its not enough of a detriment to take away from the good. This is for people who like the feel of a big round medium weight mouse. I dont often switch sensitivities, but having a button that resets to the default of your choosing is fantastic for those accidental presses. Simple 2 side button configuration, and a deep left thumb recess also helps with accidental presses.

TL;DR: High quality mouse that feels just like the original. Good buy. When I found out that Logitech updated and rereleased the G5 (Yes, I know this is not a G5) I was quite excited. My previous mouse was on the fritz, so this seemed like a good time to try it out. So far Ive had this mouse for some months and its typical Logitech (and why I keep buying their products). The only minor gripe I have is that the mouse feels a little on the small side. Most normal people will not notice this but I have larger than average hands. Not the fault of the mouse really, but I felt it was worth pointing out. The sensor is crazy in this model, I havent gone anywhere near the maximum. I do not play FPS much anymore, so I cant comment on its accuracy there. Overall, I have barely any complaints. This is an excellent mouse if you just want a high quality mouse thats not button laden or looks like a gundam.

I was going to give my OG MX518 a retirement party. I bought the original Mx518 when it first came out to replace the previous Logitech best, the MX510, which I got in the last century. Heres the rundown: ( no pun intended but...) The new mouse is lighter(not in a good way), has a shorter, noticeably thinner wire, lacks infinite scroll and the material is vastly inferior. Leaving off the 3D dimples mustve saved a penny because now the mouse looks, ordinarily plain, like most mice. The sides of the Original had a soft ,almost brushed cloth feel that was/is pleasant to lay hands on but this new iteration has a matte black plastic piece that was roughed up a little. This revival was a sop to saps like me who wanted a new mouse just like the old mouse but they couldnt do it. They had to do it on the cheap. If this mouse was a movie itd be Ghostbusters 2016. Im happy if the increase in DPI is what you were looking for but me and those new folks that want to feel the Legendary mouse everyone raved about. Well, you cant. They say, You cant go home again, and that applies here. Its a good mouse but for the current price there must be better mice made in the 21st century.

Disclosure: I am not a gamer. I needed to replace the Logitech M500 mouse (RIP) Ive been using for nearly 20 years. I am retired and have some hobbies. I thought I could improve on my efforts by up-grading my mouse. This is the 3rd Logitech mouse in as many weeks (Thank you Amazon for making returns so easy). The MX518 is supposed to be the descendant of my M500. I had decided to give up on programmable buttons and wireless so this seemed to be the obvious choice. Wrong! One of the most useful features of the M500 was what is referred to as hyperscroll. Guess what was removed from the MX518?. Add to that, the optics have been changed and are not very reliable. Logitech software is questionable. Returned to Amazon.

I received this mouse on Oct. 31, 2020. I bought it primarily for gaming, for the 8 programmable buttons, but I am disappointed. First, I found the design to be ungainly, the mouse feels too big in my hand and I cant reach all of the buttons without continually shifting the position of my hand. After trying it on a couple of games, I went back to a standard keyboard and mouse setup. I now use the LMB, RMB, and mouse wheel only, the same as I would with a 3 button mouse. The other problem is that the LMB intermittently malfunctions. There should be tactile and audible feedback when the mouse button is clicked. But sometimes I get the click (feel and sound) before the button is fully depressed causing me to misclick. Overall, since Amazon is allowing returns until January 31, I think I will return it and not ask for a replacement.

Wow, was I ever surprised to see that Logitech was bringing back the greatest gaming mouse of all time! Believe it or not, Im still using my original MX518 that I bought in 2005! Its never let me down, so I was hesitant to buy this one for fear of jinxing my original. However, I decided to get one to use at the office and am very pleased. Its got the same shape, look, and feel as the original, but has some newer tech inside. The only difference in the feel are the non-glossy parts on the sides and around the scroll wheel. The rubberized coating of the old 518 has been replaced with a rough, matte plastic. This is a great change since that rubber junk always deteriorates and turns into a sticky mess after a few years. The new paint job is quite nice. Gone is the strange dented look. The paint starts as a glossy gray on the buttons and fades to an inky black past the buttons behind the scroll wheel. Tiny metallic specks sparkle throughout. They seem to be a mixture of reddish, and greenish under the fluorescent office lights, but shine bright silver when I shine my cell phone flash on them. Ive also poked around in the new Logitech G HUB software, but have found it to be fairly unintuitive. I had a difficult time, but was eventually able to save a couple different profiles directly to the mouse. This grants the ability to use your mouse profiles on any computer with or without the software. Long story short, If youre looking to recapture the glory days of CS 1.6 and HL2, dont hesitate to buy this revived piece of history! After a couple days of use, I think it should live up to expectations. If the buttons last as long as my original, Ill keep on using these till I die! Ill only need to keep a couple more stashed away!
