Logitech G MX518 Gaming Mouse

> 3 dayThe original concept of the 3-button mouse was to use right click with the ring finger. Almost nobody did this so today few mice are designed for this hand position. The MX518 and its descendants are! This thing is a palm-position beast that works beautifully for both high and low res players - once you get used to it! If you grew up right clicking with your middle finger, expect a tough first week with the mx518, followed by a lifetime of satisfaction.

> 3 dayMy biggest grievance with the mouse is that it became available AFTER I replaced my previous Logitech G4 mouse with a Logitech G403. Now the G403 I bought is a fine mouse, but I had been using that old G4 for like 7 years, and I had grown very accustomed to its shape. This new MX518 has a shape just like my old G4, and therefore I prefer it over my G403, which I now keep as a backup. I suppose the MX518 could be a little better with a braided cable like my G403, but thats really not enough of a detraction for me to not give this 5 stars.

> 3 dayDisclaimer: I never used the original MX518 made around a decade ago. So far, I’ve got to say that I really love this mouse. You may be asking, why did I choose this retro styled mouse over some of the other mice? 1. In my opinion, It’s a nice break from the sharp, sleek, and flashy geometric designs from modern gaming mice and other gaming equipment. The MX518 does what it needs to do without over complicating itself. 2. The old school soft and rounded aesthetic of the MX518 feels very comfortable in palm, fingertip, and claw gripping styles. 3. The cord isn’t braided. Sure, this can be looked as a negative in durability, but it’s nice to not deal with fraying and cord friction that can mess with mouse movement. 4. The unbraided cord is also very flexible and extremely light to the point where it feels borderline nonexistent. It doesn’t feel cheap despite this. 5. It’s slightly lighter than the Razor Deathadder and has excellent weight balance. 6. The MX518 has the same (HERO) sensor as Logitech’s $100+ flagship mice. 7. The mouse has programmable buttons for assigning macros, keybinds, on the fly DPI changing, and the ability to store and switch between multiple mouse profiles. The mouse profiles can be assigned to games for automatic, immediate swapping when the games are launched. With the MX518 praise out of the way, there are some things to consider before buying the mouse. 1. The MX518 was designed for right handed use only. 2. The mouse is fairly big, some users with smaller hands may find it uncomfortable. 3. If you have long fingers and like to palm grip, you may hate the left and right click buttons. They don’t fully extend over the edge of the mouse and your fingertips may hit the plastic form that wraps around it. 4. The features on this retro styled mouse may appear too basic without the flashy lighting, infinite scrolling, weight changing, grip swapping, and other features found in modern mice design. 5. The buttons below and above the mouse wheel may be tricky to reach depending on your grip style and finger length. The mouse wheel itself has a somewhat narrow and rubbery feel that may feel weird to some users. TLDR: I personally think the MX518 is one of the best mice I have used in comfort and performance, but the older design style and lack of modern gimmicks may not be everyone.

> 3 dayThrowback to 2005! I am so happy I found this mouse. I used the original MX518 from 2005 to at least 2016 and then I lost it in a move, or maybe I still have it buried in a box...but I can guarantee if I found it, its STILL WORKING! It somehow managed to escape my terrible cat who is a notorious cord chewer. This new MX518 is comfortable, crisp, responsive (as my husband said jealously when he looked at the box of my new mouse This one is better than the one I have and he bought one that is at least $250 because it charges wirelessly on its pad.) Well, guess what, my mouse will never run out of batteries mid-raid when the tank has just pulled a boss! My only tiny tiny problem, and this is my own problem, because I own a terrible cat, is that the USB cord is so thin and light and attractive to my cat who could literally sever it in one chomp of her fiendish teeth. Yes, I know people hate it, but I wish Logitech had gone braided cable with this one. Currently, I unplug and put the mouse in a safe place so she cant get it, but I know Ill lapse one day and shell chomp it. Come to think of it, I should probably search amazon for some cord protectors... gotta go!

> 3 dayI replaced my old (and original) MX518 mouse with this re-released version. In size grip and feel they are exactly identical, I couldnt recommend this mouse highly enough. However, compared to the original the cord they used this time is much thinner. I cant imagine this is for any reason other than lowering its lifespan so people cant go on using the same mouse for ten years. I wouldnt be surprised if other parts on this are inferior to the original.

> 3 dayWhen I saw that some spin-off Logitech company, Logitech G, was remaking the MX518 mouse I was ecstatic. The MX518 was the best mouse Id ever used and since mine broke after ~7 years of use I had been looking to replace it. It may look and feel like the Logitech MX518 but it is not. My Logitech G MX518 is *already failing after only 3 months*! It has begun interpreting single clicks as double clicks. The button switch is failing. I do not recommend buying this mouse if you think you are getting a Logitech MX518. This mouse isnt it despite the name. *edit*: The Logitech RMA process is now terrible. Even after I took a video of myself using the mouse showing the defect while holding a piece of paper the tech support refused to honor the warranty. They tried to claim that my firmware version wasnt up to date (on my mouse?!) and then hung up on me *2* times while I was waiting on hold. The only way to get them to approve the RMA was to get angry and yell at them at which point suddenly the firmware version didnt matter (it never did, its a bad switch). DONT BUY LOGITECH.

> 3 dayOther reviews are accurate. This isnt the same as the old mx mouses. It just doesnt feel solid like before. Minor squeaks, and a little stick in the scroll..

> 3 dayI still own my old MX518, as far as shape and button positioning this mouse is spot on to the original. As for the features, they are upgraded for the better (DPI as well as software features). It looks like my old mouse minus a new paint job. While it has made playing games like Overwatch easier, it hasnt made my overall performance much better, but thats a personal problem T_T and I need to git gud again after all this time.

> 3 dayIn the past, Logitech support was unmatched with anybody else. It is the main reason I buy Logitech. I so not know what changed. I started having an issue with my mx518 and contacted support. My mouse was listed in my logitech profile with serial number, model number, purchase date and from where, etc. I started a support ticket from my profile. It took 3 days for them to reply to that and then asked for all of the information about my mouse that was already registered with them. I gave them the information. 3 days later, they ask for a photo of the serial number of the mouse and a hand written note with my ticket number. I ask why this stuff is not part of my profile. 3 days later I get a response that it is part of my profile. 3 days later I ask what is the status of my ticket. 3 days later I get a response that my mouse is in warranty replacement review and I need to wait 72 hours. I started this process on July 1st and it is now July 15th. Candace D at Logitech has been stringing me along now for 2 weeks. I am currently shopping for a new mouse and keyboard. I can tell you 100% it is not going to be Logitech. I will not be buying anything Logitech from this point on. Sorry Logitech, major fail. Candace D. has lost this long time customer.

> 3 dayI got this mouse even though I already have the Logitech Hero G502 Hero mostly out of nostalgia for the ones Ive had like it in the past. When I first got the G502 it felt different, I wasnt used to it, so I always wanted something more like the MX518, but after trying it all over again I realize I like my G502 better, which feels better in my hand and has the thumb rest as well. Nothing wrong the the MX518 and thats why Im still giving it 5 stars, just a matter of preference, but if you ask me, get the Logitech G502 Hero, even if you arent a gamer.
