Logitech G MX518 Gaming Mouse

> 24 hourI bought the original MX518 in 2009 and it lasted me until 2020. 11 years! I had to replace it with another MX518 and it timed up perfectly with the new release of the MX518. I thought I was lucky. Most of what made the original MX518 great was how durable it was. Again, 11 years! The moment I got the new one, I couldnt help but notice the cord on it is absolutely pitiful compared to the old mouse. And lo and behold, my kitten chewed through it. The mouse is still functional, but if the cords quality is bad, I assume the rest of the mouse was made as cheaply as possible. I honestly think I could break through this cord with my fingernails. This mouse came from Logitech so its not an issue of 3rd party seller. Logitech, please dont cut corners on quality. I have $3 usb-c cords with thicker covering than this $60 mouse.

> 24 hourI previously routed the mouse to the back of the computer through a cable routing grommet hole in my desk. However, after just a week or so, I found the cable shielding had some obvious wear where it rubbed on that plastic grommet. Now Im wrapping it up and running through the USB pas through on the keyboard. But the typical rubber/plastic shielding just tends to offer more resistance than a braided cable. If nothing else, making a replaceable or removable usb cable would be well received. As many others, I once owned a mx510 in red, back in the day. This is a familiar friend, and with the new sensor and feet design, I hope it lasts as long as the original did.

> 24 hourPros: -It fits in my hand perfectly. Ive used so many different mice over the years (Razer, Logitech, even the Intellimouse 2.0) and none of them ever fit my hand comfortably. I switch between claw and palm grips and this mouse accommodates both of my styles amazingly. -While the dented metal is indeed gone, the new plastic has glitter all under it which makes it look really nice compared to the old got hit by a baseball bat 500 times MX518. -Cord length is pretty long Cons: -The scroll wheel. Yeah, it has to said. Its not the worst one in the world and it works fine, but it just feels so awkward to scroll with this mouse half the time. Sometimes it works normally but other times it kinda feels like its scraping against something. (Edit: The scraping against something feel is gone. Wear overtime mustve fixed it) -The area where I rest my palm easily gets moist thanks to the new plastic shell, but its not really an annoyance to me. Id rather have the palm rest get moist over the thumbgrips (cough razer... cough)

> 24 hourI like the shape of it and how it fits in my hand, but everything about the scroll wheel just seems very bad for gaming. Its too far back, its *extremely* stiff and unreliable if you want to actually press it and use it as a button... which I do in nearly every game i play. Its actually so stiff to press that since its mounted at an angle, if I let go of the mouse and press straight down on the middle mouse button, the mouse will actually start sliding backward before I get to enough pressure to register a click. If I try to hold the mouse further back so the middle button is easier to click, suddenly I have to stretch awkwardly to click the forward button on the side. I might be wrong but it also feels like you have to press the right click button further than the left click button before it registers a click. Either way I dont like how far you have to press the right click button to register a click compared to other gaming mice Ive used.

> 24 hourWhen I saw that some spin-off Logitech company, Logitech G, was remaking the MX518 mouse I was ecstatic. The MX518 was the best mouse Id ever used and since mine broke after ~7 years of use I had been looking to replace it. It may look and feel like the Logitech MX518 but it is not. My Logitech G MX518 is *already failing after only 3 months*! It has begun interpreting single clicks as double clicks. The button switch is failing. I do not recommend buying this mouse if you think you are getting a Logitech MX518. This mouse isnt it despite the name. *edit*: The Logitech RMA process is now terrible. Even after I took a video of myself using the mouse showing the defect while holding a piece of paper the tech support refused to honor the warranty. They tried to claim that my firmware version wasnt up to date (on my mouse?!) and then hung up on me *2* times while I was waiting on hold. The only way to get them to approve the RMA was to get angry and yell at them at which point suddenly the firmware version didnt matter (it never did, its a bad switch). DONT BUY LOGITECH.

> 24 hourThe feel is great, the laser sensor is so much better than the optical sensor that would freak out whenever running over a small hair or something, so pretty much its the same as the 3 other mice of this shape that Ive been using for the past 19 years. My dislikes: Gotta change the software, I was using Logitech Gaming Software for a long time and it worked with this, but I had to unplug and replug it every time for it to remember the bindings. So I had to get the G Hub for that to work, so far its fine, but it didnt really import all my settings. Other than that the slick gloss feel is a bit weird to get used to... might have made my hand feel a bit sweaty, but it might have just been the summer. Ive owned the G700s and the G502 and neither of them are as good as this mouse.

> 24 hourIn the past, Logitech support was unmatched with anybody else. It is the main reason I buy Logitech. I so not know what changed. I started having an issue with my mx518 and contacted support. My mouse was listed in my logitech profile with serial number, model number, purchase date and from where, etc. I started a support ticket from my profile. It took 3 days for them to reply to that and then asked for all of the information about my mouse that was already registered with them. I gave them the information. 3 days later, they ask for a photo of the serial number of the mouse and a hand written note with my ticket number. I ask why this stuff is not part of my profile. 3 days later I get a response that it is part of my profile. 3 days later I ask what is the status of my ticket. 3 days later I get a response that my mouse is in warranty replacement review and I need to wait 72 hours. I started this process on July 1st and it is now July 15th. Candace D at Logitech has been stringing me along now for 2 weeks. I am currently shopping for a new mouse and keyboard. I can tell you 100% it is not going to be Logitech. I will not be buying anything Logitech from this point on. Sorry Logitech, major fail. Candace D. has lost this long time customer.

> 24 hourThe original MX 518 was infamous in the days when Counter Strike 1.6/Source reigned as the go-to competitive FPS. The original served me well for many a year, and when the refresh was released it only made sense to give it a try. The end result is ok. The weight is slightly off compared to the original, and the sensor while good initially had some issues. Still a good mouse for those with larger hands that favor a right-hand palm grip, but doesnt shine nearly as much in the face of competition as it used to.

> 24 hourIts lighter then the orgnal but the mouse wheel is awful it squeaks every time i use it take way more rolls then the others use to so you get even MORE squeaking.
