> 3 dayOthers have indicated challenges setting up the WiFi connection but I did not experience any issues. I set it up using an iPhone 8 running iOS 12 and it took about 5 minutes to get it online. The instructions were short and easy to follow. I also found it reconnects to WiFi quickly (within 1 minute) when unplugging and replugging back in. Plugging the device into the GFI outlet is as simple as it can get although the alignment of the center hole to secure to the outlet/junction box didn’t align with my outlet (maybe it’s my particular outlet?) Not sure if others have had this problem but it is secure without it and don’t feel there is any likely risk of it falling out. As others have indicated the outlet you plug your pump into (on the device) is ‘loose’ so you’ll likely need to use some electrical tape or zip tie to make sure it doesn’t fall out. I’m running a two pump setup so the main pump gets plugged into the ‘monitored’ outlet of the device to get data on number of cycles run and run time; I found the app to refresh with cycle data almost instantly after the pump cycles off. The high water sensor is mounted above the main pump float level and slightly below the battery backup pump sensor level and when testing I found the phone app alert to come through basically instantly. I’ve found the alerts (high water, normal water, lost power, power restored) from the phone app to be basically instantaneous. You can also setup text message alerts, which are redundant with the phone app alerts, but I found them to be on a lag compared to the app alerts at times but good feature if you want to alert other cell phones that don’t/can’t have the phone app. I tested a loss of power to router (i.e. no WiFi) scenario and it took about 10 minutes to receive the alert that there was no connectivity (the alert is triggered because the manufacuter’s server hasn’t received a communication from the device). Others have indicated issues with the connectivity after having it installed for some time, too early for me to tell but I’ll update my review if I experience that down the road. Overall I like that this device will alert me instantly when the power to the outlet is out (if the GFI trips) and when the water level breaches the high level sensor (say if my main pump fails) because both of these scenarios would indicate my battery backup pump is running and that means I have a window of time to get things back online. I also like that it will alert me within a reasonable time (10 minutes) when the device doesn’t report into the manufacturer’s servers because it likely indicates a full house power outage and that my battery backup pump is running. I didn’t give it 5 stars because of the shortcomings with the mounting hole (to the outlet) and because of the loose fit of the pump plug into the device.

> 3 dayMine quit working after two years. I recently upgraded my mesh network nodes and setup a new SSID (network name) in the process. That required me to press the button on the PumpSpy in order to put it into “setup mode”. I did that and the ring around the outlet turned amber as it should. However, soon after the light went out and never came on again. It’s dead. I opened a ticket with support and explained everything. They had me email them my receipt, etc. Now, they want me to ship it back to them at my expense so they can determine if it needs repaired or replaced. They also sent me a list of things I need to include with the package. They want me to include the ticket number, but also a description of the issue I’m experiencing. And if it’s determined that the device is functioning properly, then they want me to pay for return shipping. Ummm, no thanks. How about I save us all the trouble and drop it in the trash. I’m just going to buy some water sensors for my SmartThings and call it a day.

Greater than one weekWell, the device itself works great. I get push notifications when events occur. Thats the good, the not so good is that you cannot install the device on your wifi network with any Android device. You need to install with an Apple device and then it will appear on your Android device. Unfortunately, once you have the app up and running, it is really hit or miss if you can open it and have it connect to your PumpSpy device. Really frustrating. The push notifications seem to always work but the device sets 300 minutes as the threshold where it announces the pump is running too long. My pump usually runs for 330 minutes to empty my sump. It would be nice to be able to set a custom threshold that makes sense for your particular system. So, while this product is a great concept and it seems to work for Apple devices the software is buggy to the point where it really diminishes the value of the price and time investment in installing. Would not recommend. Many, many folks confirm the software is poor or totally non-functional. Not worth the time I have to spend to re-install the app over and over again.

> 3 dayStill havent installed it yet. Doesnt install or get configured with Android phone. Tech support provides instructions for configuration with computer. Couldnt get it configured even with tech support on the line. They said to login to my router, and see if router is stopping configuration. Dont see anything there. Seems like it might be somewhat set up as would get random messages about losing connection at home But when I try to add a location, wants me to reinstall. App is very slow, buggy, and a pain. Pretty much have given up. Might make another attempt, still will probably have issues once installed in my crawlspace which is even farther away from my wireless router.

> 3 dayThis is a great product for monitoring sump pumps and for warning when there is a problem. What really stands out is their wonderful support (see later). I am away from my house for long periods of time and was looking for some reassurance about the operation of the sump pump in the basement, knowing that failure of the sump pump and a battery backup would cause significant damage to the basement. The PumpSpy arrived on time and was installed relatively quickly. I just followed the instructions and found no difficulties. Note that you will need a reasonably good wifi signal where the PumpSyp will be located. I did check the wifi in the basement beforehand using the app Wifi Analyser, and found the reception was pretty weak in the corner where the sump pump is located. Consequently I also ordered the T-Link N-300 wifi extender in addition to the PumpSpy and placed the extender between the wifi router and the PumpSpy. This arrangement has worked well. PumpSpy is setup to notify you via email and text messages of any problems, while the PumpSpy app can be used to examine data associated with the operation of the sump pump. The PumpSpy and app worked perfectly for about a month and then there appeared to be an update to the app and I could no longer access the data, with the app continually crashing. On a Saturday afternoon I emailed tech support and much to my surprise I received a response within a few minutes! I followed the instructions in the email and the app promptly started working again. If you do have issues with the (Android) app continually crashing then these are the instructions I received from PumpSpy tech support: Here are the steps you can take to resolve an issue with the Android app on your smart device. 1. Go to Settings on your phone 2. In Settings, select Apps and notifications (Note: some models might only say apps or application or application manager 3. Select App Info 4. Scroll down to the PumpSpy app and select it. 5. Click on Storage 6. Select Clear Storage (Some models say Clear App Data or a something similar. 7. You will be asked to confirm the deletion of app data - select OK. 8. Reopen the PumpSpy app. Overall, I am very happy with the product and the response from PumpSpy tech support has been outstanding.

> 3 dayWe were concerned our sump pump was running too often. PumpSpy was super simple to install, and works exactly as advertised. We can see historical data on when and for how long our sump pump operates. The App also provides an “estimate” of the volume pumped, which is not really accurate but we don’t use that info. The high level alarm will text us an alarm as well. All in all a great investment for peace of mind!

> 3 dayI’ve been using this since mid-January and it gives me great peace of mind knowing that my sump pump is doing its job 24-7. It’s nice to know how much the sump pump is having to pump out, too! I have had short power outages and internet pauses but everything comes back online without a hitch. I just had a situation where the unit was still connected to the internet but not transmitting data to my app and I contacted tech support (via Facebook Messenger) and the support person helped me get it working again (on a Saturday even though tech support is supposedly only open M-F!). Just had to sign out the app and sign back in. Very happy with this product.

24-11-2024I like the concept, however, the installation was a bit clunky. They certainly have room to improve the installation process. I would have given 5 stars if the application was a bit better and if the installation process worked more seamlessly.

> 3 dayTerrible customer support. I’ve never had any follow up after emailing and leaving multiple messages. The app isn’t working correctly and does not give correct measurements. It also shuts off for no reason.

> 3 dayOverall this is a good product and I would purchase again. I did have the same connectivity issues, noted by others. System didnt want to connect to internet with 3-4 bars- I purchased a WIFI booster and it connected without issues. PROs: does what is says- monitors sump pump activity and alarms very quickly and reliably. CONs: the outlets are not tight- primary sump pump has no issues--back up sump pump has a heavy plug which has worked out of the outlet...a zip tie fixed this. Side note: this was installed on a new build house, which flooded prior to closing, when power was lost. So, I know the basement will flood if there isnt a workable pump system. I complained to the builder about the constant activation of the sump and was disregarded- I used this system via the app to show the builder that my pump was activating 2500+ times a day and discharging up to 27K gallons of water (Yes!!!!). The builder came out and found that a discharge line they installed was essentially recirculating water to the foundation. This wouldve burned out the primary pump and flooded my basement. This product, while expensive, does what its supposed to do.
