> 3 dayAs of June 2022 I would have said not to buy but they brought back features. Background: I have 2 sump pumps in my house that run between ever 30 - 60 seconds each. This coupled with a very high amount of Iron Ocher in the ground has resulted in sump pumps dying every 6 months. They can fail in a couple different ways, always on or never on. I bought this unit because it can detect and send text messages when it detects either of these. Major issue 1. It stopped sending text messages when either of the pumps fail. I opened a ticket and they said they were looking into their carrier still nothing. * July 2022 update brought back features. Major Issue 2. After a software update they have removed any cycle history and you can only see how many its run today. I have anywhere from 1000 - 2000 a day per pump no I can only see how many as of the time I look no totals or history. I bought these because it would keep track of how much its running and save a total from previous days and I could see if there was an issue. * July 2022 update brought back features. Major issue 3. The plug socket is actually non standard and does not grip the sump pump plug which causes the plug to slip out and or spark due to poor connection. I had to manually mash the plug ends together to get it to stay in. Issues 1 and 2 are reasons for 1 star. If they fix their software I can live with issue 3 and I would rate it a 5 star.

05-06-2025I had been looking for a way to know when the sum pump in our Crawlspace was running, so I would not worry that I would one day find the crawlspace flooded, and not have to go down there (very low crawlspace) too often. When I came across PumpSpy, it looked like the perfect solution, so I got one and installed it, and it did not disappoint. Feature wise, it does exactly what I needed plus more, it allows me to see all the cycle times and duration, bringing me peace of mind during storms without having to go down there. It also allows me to know if my Sum pump is properly sized (not cycling) too often. Bonus is the Flood sensor. By including a float sensor that you place just above the pump, I will be alerted if the water rises abnormally, indicating the pump is not running or is failing to cope with the rain. Installation was reasonably simple, I did run into a small problem on a recent android (v9) device that could not connect to the outlet Wi-Fi network during setup. Using an older android phone running android 6 fixed that issue. Hopefully PumpSpy will fix that. Now after using it for a few weeks, I have a few suggestions for improvement in case PumSpy reads these. 1. Use Local weather station rain information to trigger alerts. Usually pump activity is directly related to a raining event, and the pump cycling is proportional to the amount of rain. It would be nice for the application to monitor rain amount at every location using local weather station, and compare them to pump cycles to establish a baseline for cycle’s frequency versus rain. By doing that you could trigger an alert if the cycle’s frequency fall out of range. Cycles when there is no rain would alert for a possible leak, abnormally low or hi cycles when raining point to a change in the situation… If you ever do that, it would be nice to be able to specify a Personal weather station from Weather Underground to use as the source for the precipitation amount. For example, smart sprinkler systems like the Rachio 3 allow users to specify such a local personal Weather station to know when it rains locally, and delay or turn off irrigation. 2. Give us the ability to download the pump data. This would be really nice to help establish baseline for situations when the pump runs Include all the data in that download like power draw and such 3. App enhancements • Add the frequency or time interval in the historical data on each cycle line. Knowing how often the pump cycle in a given storm intensity is the most important aspect of knowing everything is fine. Although we can figure it out with the time, it would make it a lot easier to see at a glance. • Add the ability for notifications like Flood to trigger an actual alarm, with settings for Alarm duration, number of repeat and time interval. It is easy to miss a notification, and a flood alarm is not something you want to miss. 4. Small things • Fix the Time zone mismatch on the historical data • Add an arrow to the historical cycle line in the app to indicate you can drill down further. But all in all, great job on the product!!

> 3 dayFor better or worse, I dont take the time to write many reviews. With this item, I could not help myself. We moved into a house with a sump pump three years ago. In over 50 years I had never lived in a house with a sump pit and found that I was obsessed with the operation of our sump pump for the first couple of years in the house. I bought water sensors, paid for sump pump flood insurance and laid awake at night listening for it to engage and had neighbors checking our house every other day when we were out of town -- all because I was so worried about flooding ruining our partially finished basement walkout. After the first pump (installed by our builder during construction) failed after 18 months - which I didnt discover for two days (and the pump ran for an hour to clear the backed up water), I became convinced I needed a back up. A plumber recommended two pumps at different levels rather than a battery backup (water backup not an option as we are on well). I found this item while researching battery backups and thought it would be of benefit -- it turned out to be perfect. It was no issue to install and now I can check on the status anytime I want, and will get a notification if the power goes out (if it doesnt report to the server) or if the water reaches the level of the wire sensor in the pit. I honestly started sleeping through the night after installing this - and leave without worry now. Yes it is a bit pricey but includes the lifetime monitoring - so no monthly fee. The only downside I see at all is that if the company were to go out of business, the monitoring ends, and therefore the usefulness of the product. Hopefully PumpSpy will be in business for many years to come. . . This really is a five star product in my book.

> 3 dayTerrible customer support. I’ve never had any follow up after emailing and leaving multiple messages. The app isn’t working correctly and does not give correct measurements. It also shuts off for no reason.

> 3 dayOverall this is a good product and I would purchase again. I did have the same connectivity issues, noted by others. System didnt want to connect to internet with 3-4 bars- I purchased a WIFI booster and it connected without issues. PROs: does what is says- monitors sump pump activity and alarms very quickly and reliably. CONs: the outlets are not tight- primary sump pump has no issues--back up sump pump has a heavy plug which has worked out of the outlet...a zip tie fixed this. Side note: this was installed on a new build house, which flooded prior to closing, when power was lost. So, I know the basement will flood if there isnt a workable pump system. I complained to the builder about the constant activation of the sump and was disregarded- I used this system via the app to show the builder that my pump was activating 2500+ times a day and discharging up to 27K gallons of water (Yes!!!!). The builder came out and found that a discharge line they installed was essentially recirculating water to the foundation. This wouldve burned out the primary pump and flooded my basement. This product, while expensive, does what its supposed to do.

> 3 daySeems to work fine, but Ive only recently got it running. My biggest concern is that the outlets seem loose and one of my pump cords partially pulled out. I rigged up a ziptie support to take some pressure off the cords, but that was a little concerning and is a failure point. I also couldnt use their screw to secure the product because my outlet has screw holes on the top and bottom, not the center. I used a ziptie around the electric box (unfinished wall) as an alternative. On the software side, I tried several times to get this to connect to wifi until I read on their site that Block LAN to WLAN Multicast and Broadcast Data cant be enabled on your WiFi. Thats a pretty common setting (my router recommends to keep it enabled for performance reasons) and I dont understand why it has to be disabled permanently to use the device. Installation was otherwise easy enough and the software seems to work. Ill update if that changes after owning for longer. That said, the app wants location access and for me to enter full address? Why? I havent tested the high water sensor. On my to do list. Edit: Its still working 8 months later. The app on android has some occasional glitches that require me to clear data and log back in. Iphone app seems better. Got my first run-time alert last week (pump was fine; we were just having a literal flood and it ran for 10 minutes straight instead of its normal 8 seconds). The alert seems to trigger after 300 seconds. Itd be great if they could add a way for users to adjust that.

Greater than one weekI would have given this product 5 stars because I love it but the app stalls and you get the wheel spinning every time you bring it up without shutting the app down. I have to shut the app down and restart it and it works fine The data from the app is accurate and amazing .Hope there is an update as this feels like a easy bug to resolve bug

> 3 dayOverall happy with product, very nice to known when and how much the pump is working. Was a pain to get connected to wifi, had to use the alternate setup with the device ID. Adroid users be warned you need to tap the word BACK top right in app to navigate the menu. Taping the android back button dumps you out of the app, currently. Also it typically takes a while for the app to signin to my pump (I just hit signin and go read reddit, when it finally logs in the app will pop back up). But, no monthly fee, so Im ok with the app being a little unpolished. Overall very happy with my purchase!

> 3 dayUpdate: 6-15-22: I spoke with someone from PumpSpy, and they are going to add the features back and explore how to better address this going forward. The developer of this product has actively removed a key feature: cycle history. Previously you could see 90 days worth of information on how often the sump pump ran. Now it only tells you the number for the current day. They have not provided any announcement or reasoning or otherwise indicated why they removed this key feature. If they are willing to remove that feature, it’s only a matter of time before future “improvements” further nerf this product and its usefulness.

> 3 dayFor starters, our house is on a slope and we have a ton of water underneath so much that our pump ran almost every hour. I had several floods and wanted something to notify me and contacts of my choosing. For that, the pump spy works. The application UX could be better. The reason I cant give it a 5 star rating is because of the amount of false positives. For instance, after a recent flood, I said enough is enough and we installed a gravity drain and the sump no longer runs. Every once in a while Ill open the app to find out my sump pump has ran 10 consecutive days, its not possible! Emails to the company support were returned, i explained how are sump pump doesnt run and they assured me that the data is correct. Cmon!!! You mean to tell me on a pit thats no mostly dry that my sump pump is running? This is a disappointment. I really wanted to rate them higher. ***Update 11/4**** I was contacted by pump spy and offered a suggestion. Because I have the pump sentry inverter I needed to plug the spy into the inverter instead of the way I had it which was the inverter plugged into the pump spy. I had to purchase a 6 inch AC adapter for the pump spy to fit in the inverter. Hopefully this works better for me. Im changing my initial review to a 4 star. I will consider to monitor.
