This ceiling-mounted bike lift is easy to install (ladder required) and very easy to use. Both my wife and our 9yo son can use the lift to easily store and access (retrieve) their bicycles. The lifts get the bikes off the floor and out of the way when theyre not being used. I installed the lifts in the garage so that the bikes are suspended over the hood of my wifes car. If shes home, its easy enough to back the car out a few feet to get the bikes down. If shes not home, and the 9yo wants to ride his bike, he can lower the bike to the floor by himself in less than a minute. The lift installs in less than 10 minutes with a screwdriver; faster if you have an electric screwdriver. One thing to consider when installing is the excess line and storage reel; the line (rope) will run diagonally from the ceiling to the location on the wall where the 2-prong storage reel is mounted. When selecting an installation location, you need to consider where the line from the ceiling to the storage reel will run, to ensure that people dont get clotheslined when walking through the area. This is pretty easy to do; its just important to consider/plan it out before installing the lift. Other than that, its a breeze to install, convenient to operate, and a terrific space saver.

The Racor PBH-1R Ceiling-Mounted Bike Lift is exactly what I needed. It saves floor space and the bike wheels by getting the weight off the wheels as you store them. The system us VERY easy to install. What more can you ask!

I have two other lifts for my kayaks that work great. this one only has one rope which you are supposed to pull down to release the break, but if you are pulling down to release the break the bike will not drop because you are holding the rope.

Dont cut the rope, bought 2 and my other half cut about 4 feet off the end. If u cut it, make sure the bike is attached and on the the ground so you dont get it too short

I read the other reviews and opted to take a chance on this hoist. As other users have said, the rope it comes with is a soft, floppy rope that easily frays and just sucks for this purpose. My # 1 complaint is that the rope routinely (every time!) jumps off one of the pulley wheels and wedges itself between the pulley and the pulley frame. Its infuriating to have to get out the ladder every time to free this P.O.S. If youre willing to invest in a larger diameter/more rigid and better quality rope it might work better, but will be a LOT of bulky rope to store once its hoisted up. The pulleys are just a crappy design with excess space built in almost purposefully to derail the rope. Also, the locking mechanism that holds the bike up sucks. It lock ok but you pretty much have to climb up on a ladder to get it to release. I think this is partially a function of the crappy rope it includes. Buy it if you can get it cheap but be prepared to tinker with it a lot and to spend an additional $5-20 on a better rope. This hoist is now available at Harbor Freight for about $12.

I bought 2, had to return 1 because the rope was frayed in several places. Also, the screws included were so bad that after only 1 or 2 times of the drill driver bit slipping, the screw head slots became quickly, easily stripped. Also, if your bikes seat tilts forward, is not tight, or doesnt have enough of a pronounced rear lip for the rack hooks to cling to, theres decent odds the bike will fall from the rack. The only thing keeping my bikes up now is the non-slip vinyl coating on the hooks which are more or less keeping the clips from sliding out of the backs of the seats. Having said all that, Im pleased with the purchase, would buy more, and you cant argue with the fact that it works, its convenient, and the price is right.

It is seldom one can find a product that exceeds its advertised benefits but this os one of those products. The locking pulley in this system sets it into the realm of a highly useful product. I have used one of the systems to raise my wifes bicycle off the garage floor and out or the way. Assembling the pulleys on a 1x4 board and then mounting on the ceiling is the way to go. The instruction were too sketchy on how to thread the rope through the locking pulley mechanism but some trial and error work solves that problem. I have used the second pulley system to pull my bird feeder up out of the reach of a local bear that thinks the grain in my feeders is very much to his liking. The locking pulley is again the magic element that makes this product so versitile. The low price on this item makes it even more attractive and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone that needs a hoist to get a fairly light item into the air.
