Racor - PBH-1R, Bike Storage, Garage Pulley Lift

My wife and I installed this product last weekend. The installation was fairly easy except for the fact that the screws provided with the kit appear to be a very cheap quality and they stripped very easily when using a cordless drill. I ended up going with a regular screwdriver and still had to be very careful not to strip them. Overall though the product seems to work very nicely and it is very nice to have the bikes off the floor of the garage.

What a great product. I mounted two of them to ceiling studs. My only complaint is that it did not come with enough plastic molly spreaders for the side holes of the mounting bracket, nor enough screws. I used my own.

I saw this bike lift on Ask This Old House and if Tom Silva used it, I thought it had to be good. I bought two for our two mountain bikes and they work like a charm, and they were easy to install. Supplied screws were fine--they didnt strip or bend, but I did drill pilot holes. Rope seems a bit wimpy, but it can be easily replaced if it frays. I did secure the hooks to the bikes front and rear with bungee cords. Didnt want the bikes to slip off in a minor earthquake. If theres a serious quake the bikes will be the least of our problems. These lifts do what theyre supposed to do. I expect that theyll last as long as I will, and are certainly worth the price.

The pulleys allow the rope to to get stuck between the jockey wheel and the pulley housing. VERY frustrating. I just got down off a 6 foot ladder that I had to get out to get to the pulleys that are - by design - mounted out of reach (ceiling/high mount). Terrible design that could be remedied by simply decreasing the width of the pulley housing by ~3-4mm. Also, remember this: You must keep clear the space under the hanging bikes if you use your bikes with any frequency. So if you mount this close to the wall, the wall and floor space below the bike must be clear/unencumbered. Because of this you actually LOSE some space.

We bought 4 sets of these to mount our family’s bikes on the ceiling of our garage. I mounted a ledger board for each set to be sure it was secure on the ceiling. The instructions were easy to follow and the only advice I’d give is to be sure the back hooks are secure under the bike seat if the bike seat is relatively flat. The safety on the rope is a nice feature. My 8 year old can lower/raise any of our bikes relatively easily.

We are very happy with the Racor Ceiling mount bike lift. It was easy to install, is strong, and easy to operate. Very good product.

As a female I put this bike lift up myself. The only problems I had was with my stud finder on our textured ceiling in our garage. I did follow another viewers suggestion and buy screws from Menards rather than use the ones included in the kit. I bought 5 of these and all of our ropes were fine, no frays. I would recommend measuring your ceiling to make sure your car will fit under when your bike is raised because I was surprised with our high garage ceiling how low the bike is (I can barely walk under it). The only reason I didnt give this 5 stars was because of the cheap quality of the screws, but heck for $17 and free shipping I can afford to buy some better screws. I LOVE MY FLOOR SPACE!!

I have two of these to haul our bikes up to the ceiling of the garage. This allows me to park an old sports car beneath them. They were easy to install and they work exactly as advertised. To save floor space these are the best solution I know of.
