We purchased this recently upon moving into our new home. Were trying to keep it as nice as we can with kids and pets. This is by far the most expensive vacuum weve ever had. There are definitely lower priced options that will do the job. Just not as good as this. Maneuverability - This is a very robust vacuum. It pivots surprisingly well for its size. You really can work around corners and furniture easily. The head on this vacuum is thin enough to reach beneath the furniture. It vacuums right up to the baseboard in either direction. Im happy with it. Ease of use - The cord is adequate in length. The dust collection compartment is easy to empty. Our 12 year old is proficient with all of the functions. After all, it really is his vacuum. The lift away is pretty simple to do. The light on the head is bright enough to see in the darker corners and behind furniture. I like the light quite a bit. The crevice tool and that other thing that we use on the furniture are easily installed and removed. They both work well. Suction power- Possibly the most important aspect of my opinion on this. Im impressed. I can tell you that your carpet is dirtier than you likely think it is. Our son vacuums upstairs every other day with the exception of the master bedroom. I do that one myself. This thing gets dust out of the carpet when the carpet looks clean. Its really remarkable. In summary - 25 years ago I never would have believed that Im on the Internet reviewing a vacuum cleaner. Im well within the clutches of adulthood though and this is what its come to. Seriously though, Im pleased with this purchase. It was an expensive item for us. We had a lower priced shark before this. It still works and has been a good one. Hopefully this one will have the same longevity. Only time will tell. If youre looking to take your vacuum game up a level I would recommend this one. We do really like it.

The suction is of the charts strong, it picked up alot of what my old vacuum apparently wasnt getting. The cord is super long which is a big thing with me. It is really easy to switch from one attachment to the other. And cleaning it is as well.

Bride had a much older version of this vacuum and loved it until it died. I figured the quality was down like most good products that are new and successful....boy was I wrong. This is an excellent machine and superior to the older one we had. Momma loves it.

Im sure that given a bit of minor cyber skills you can find my review of the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Plus Allergy Vacuum. It was my second, and last, Dyson. Its main fault centered around the latch that held to flap to empty the canister, and the canister itself being a bit hard to empty completely. It finally dumped its contents on the floor enough times that I tried the Shark. While in the end I did not like the Dyson much, I will try to give it its due. It is a good at the basic function of getting stuff off the floor. It also had some good attachments that were at least partly well thought out (more on that in a bit). I have been a long time skeptic of Sharks offerings, mainly due to their television advertisements. the way the market their stuff does not engender trust from me, so I was ready to send it back at the first sign of trouble. But I did expect that my skepticism was not really warranted. I really think they should fire their marketing team and start over with new marketing. The first thing they should ask the new team is to rename what they now call their Zero M technology. But enough of my soapbox, Im just trying to say that all this amateur attempt at marketing hides the true value of this beast behind senseless and confusing and unfocused attempts at marketing. So Ive pointed out my two top criticisms for these two top of the line machines. Seriously. I was unprepared to see the Shark eat Dysons lunch so thoroughly (sorry, had to go there). From the unwrap to usage, there was never a point where I thought I should go back and try the Dyson again. It picked up as good or better than the Dyson, was far more useful, and easier to use and clean. The only point where I felt the Dyson did better was in the attachments, but that a thin win since Dyson chose to make their attachments harder to use by forcing you to align them a certain way to attach them. Places where the Dyson should shine, it is left in wanting by lazy engineering. It stores its hose around what you think of as its stem. You only have to lift it out and extent the stem to use it. The problem starts when you try to put it back. At nearly every point, the Dyson is a bit fussy and multiple attempts to replace the hose and stem will eventually seat it. Similarly, replacing the canister is fussy, never mind the brush when you need to clean the hair wrap. While the Shark Apex is not perfect, I would have had to clean the Dyson at least a couple times in the weeks since it arrived. I havent had to clean the Sharks brush roll at all. Bottom line for me though is how dead simple it is to empty the canister. a flip of an easily accessible button with the canister pointed in the trash can and its empty. There is a top latch to empty any large items that dont make it into the canister, and it is as easy to empty as it is to avoid contact with dust. I would have gladly compromised on the vacuums ability to get stuff our of the carpet as payment for the ability to get under cabinets and beds and such. The Dyson is flat out pathetic in this realm. The lift-away by itself made the Shark a winner. But one area I expected to find problems was with the way these things fit together. Where the Dyson was fussy, the Shark is effortless. The hose detaches from the stem, and re-attaches easily as does the stem from the body, and the lift away, and the canister. I found nothing fussy about the Shark. In the end, I didnt have to compromise. I usually vacuum the carpet twice with a new vacuum, once with the new one, and then once with the old one. While not all that scientific, I know that if the old one picks up lots of stuff, they new ones not up to snuff. Here I expected to see the Shark not do as well as the Dyson, and Here again, I was wrong. All that said, the standard disclaimers apply. This is my initial impressions after using the Shark for a few weeks. If you did go back and read my review of the Dyson, youd see I was initially somewhat happy with it, but after time I started running into disappointments and issues, resulting in updates to the review. The same policy applies here. I dont tend to wear disappointment well.

Ive owned a Rainbow and an Electrolux. Then I owned several top of the line Dyson Animals. My Dysons performed great, but I found that I had to make frequent repairs or do a lot of routine maintenance, so when it was finally time to purchase a new vacuum, I did some research, talked to some people and eventually settled on this Shark. I have to say that Im not impressed. It does have some pros to go with the cons. I live in a normal 3 bedroom household. 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 short haired dog that does shed, especially twice a year. About 35 percent of the house is hardwood or tile. The rest is Berber carpet with some regular carpet in the basement. I typically vacuum once per week. The Pros: -Ive never had to clean the brush or roller and my wife has long hair. -Its maneuverable and works great on all surfaces. -The suction power is adequate. The Cons: (and some are huge engineering flaws) -The detachment for the stairs is more of a hassle than a convenience. The hose isnt long enough and the detached base is not weighted or stable, so every time you move or pull at the short hose it falls over. Worse yet, the vacuums intake and exhaust is located on that piece and it only takes a quick second of lying on its side before the entire vacuum overheats and shuts off. So you either hand carry the stairs detachment or you dont use it. -Which brings me to the next flaw. Its in the instructions manual so do yourself a favor and look it up. Overheating and shutting down is a known issue. It does this to protect the motor, but when it happens you MUST wait for almost an hour and jump through maintenance hoops before the vacuum will even power on again. -Which brings me to my next complaint. The waste canister is a fraction of the size of the Dysons. I could vacuum my entire house and empty the Dyson at the end. This thing is small and if you try to push its limit....you guessed it, it overheats and shuts down for another hour. Look it up! Look. I read peoples reviews, knitpicking products apart, and Ive tried some of these products and found that people werent accurate. Im not whining here. This is a fine vacuum with a few really inconvenient and frustrating design flaws. Im going to use this vacuum until it dies or I cant take it any longer, but unless Shark advertises some real design fixes, I will never buy another one. I do not recommend this product.

The vacuum was great at picking up, hair from a long haired german shepherd and short haird jack russell terrior with a shedding problem. Even the seemingly embedded hair was easily picked up by the vaccum with minimal effort and time. My 2 complaints are: some hair got stuck, but was easily removable from the roller. The canister was small, so dumping was more frequent than i wouldve liked. (0-2 times a depending on the severity of hair) Both problems which were seemingly improved upon in the next vaccum in sharks lineup the: vertex upright shark vacuum

I like all the features of my Shark APEX Upright Vacuum with DuoClean for Carpet and HardFloor Cleaning, Zero-M Anti-Hair Wrap, & Powered Lift-Away with Hand Vacuum (AZ1002). BUT... the darn thing WEIGHS A TON for a handicapped person to push around the house. Its a monster for those of us with not a lot of upper-body strength or who have diminished lung capacity. Thank God the Powered-Lift Away feature allows the user to detach the canister and set it down next to the user. This makes it easier to push the remainder of the upright handle/powered roller head around the carpet, but you still need to pick up and reset the canister every few step to do so. It would have been good if they had some rollers on the canister for better mobility when lifted away. So happy not having a bag to replace. The canister allows you to open the bottom of the captured dust/debris container which falls directly into your waste bin. And the Zero-M seems to be actually removing any hair from the brush-roll so users don’t have to do it manually. The instructions say you must keep vacuuming for a bit to give this cleaning feature time to do its work. So its a wait-and-see process. If it keeps the hair from being wrapped around the brush-roller, I will be very thankful. Time will tell...! I also like the crevice tool and the compact powered pet head, both of which are handy for use on my furnishings and keeping the nooks and crannies of my home clean. Wish they were better attached to the body of the vacuum when not in use, but you cant have everything. But they do work WELL and are dead useful in my multiple pet home. This new Shark vacuum has been a game changer for me. I VERY much like how it performs out of the box, but the weight and design has me wondering if I can actually manage to use it every week without needing a time-out to rest after each room. Some of the non-handicapped reviewers noticed it was rather heavy for use! Handicapped persons may want to consider this issue, and see if a lighter option will fit their needs.

Suction post is great. This is one if the best vacuums Ive used for my couch. Gets ALL the dog hair. It has great turning and maneuvering and I recommend it for all vacuum needs Except stairs.... Its clunky having to hold the can and stick, but it does work well.

Now that Ive had this vacuum for a year and a half, I feel like I can review it fairly. Yes, the honeymoon stage is over and now were having our problems, albeit small. When I first got this vacuum, I was in love. It was a beast: insane suction power, amazing swivel, and every part of it can easily be separated by a push of a button. My only complaints when I first got it: its size and no retractable cord. The retractable cord thing really got me. How do you make a vacuum this nice and not either have a cordless option or push button retraction? That answer is still beyond me. Its a great vacuum, dont get me wrong, but after owning it for this long, these are my problems: 1. It loses suction power. It will tell you to regularly clean the filter (reusable which is great) regularly, or it will lose suction power. However, even if you do this, you will still lose it. 2. The hose. Its great this thing can come apart for tasks like the stairs, furniture, etc. But the super scrunched up hose can only reach so far. How far? Not really far at all. Maybe a foot before the super slinky wants the nozzle back. Im sure you could get hose attachments, but for the pricetag, I barely feel like I should have to vacuum at all. When we first got it, it was a fight for who gets to vacuum. Now the first five minutes are vacuuming the tears of whomever is doing the vacuuming. Honestly, these 2 things, along with the bulky size and non retractable cord water my only gripes with it. It still works, just nowhere near as good as it once did, and lugging the dust compartment because the hose can only stretch so far (which isnt far at all) can be a real pain.

The Shark APEX full-sized upright vacuum delivers an incredible cleaning experience in a full-sized upright. Equipped with Shark DuoClean technology, it grabs large particles, pulls in piles, and directly engages hard floors for a beautiful, polished look. Powered Lift-Away gives you the ability to detach the pod and clean under furniture and above-floor areas with the push of a button. The self-cleaning brushroll delivers nonstop hair removal. The LED lights on the handle and floor nozzle provide visibility in dark spaces, spotlighting hidden debris. With Advanced Anti-Allergen Complete Seal, dust and allergens are trapped inside the vacuum.
