Greater than one weekOrdered my kit from the SimpliSafe website and been using it 3 months (including when traveling over the holidays), and I’m mostly happy. I’d recommend ordering through their website rather than Amazon because: you can include the exact sensors you need, there’s additional sensors not available here, and they often have additional promotions. I went with SimpliSafe over other DIY security systems on the market for a few reasons. The base station can run off battery a decent amount of time, and it has a cellular connection so it works if Wi-Fi/internet is down. Can be setup completely with the keypad without needing to connect to Wi-Fi or use app; I like the idea that it’s more secure the more offline it is (but then you lose app functionality). When an alarm is triggered, you receive a call and can give your safe-word to have them ignore it instead of reporting it (the app will also have a notification and you can disable it quickly to avoid the call). And, it’s not affiliated with a company that already has too much data on me (I’m looking at you, Ring). Setup is about as simple as can be. Motion and entry sensors can be mounted with either screws or easy-to-remove sticky tape (I’d imagine this is true for all the mountable sensors). They claim the motion sensors are tuned to ignore smaller pets, but I had issues with false alarms. Despite following their recommendations of placing the sensors 6+ feet off the ground, ensuring animals cannot climb near them, etc. My two 5-6 kg cats kept triggering them and I had to switch the sensors to “low” sensitivity. I highly recommend testing your setup by staying near your phone and home a few weeks so you can cancel and check any false alarms as your pets go through all possible routines. Other minor annoyances. Some of the sensors take unusual batteries: CR2032 and CR123A. Not a deal breaker, but it would have been nice if everything could use rechargeable AA/AAA batteries. Also, the system defaults to their most expensive monitoring and you have to call them to change it (the app only lets you switch up to more expensive monitoring, not down to cheaper). I called to change mine to the cheaper monitoring and they said it would switch at the end of the free trial month. It didn’t and I had to call them again… Update 2022/4/17: System is working better. Got a call from one of their technicians about the motion sensor issues. Got additional suggestion to ensure sunlight coming in windows also isn’t in sensor view. Once you take all the caveats into account- pets, windows, sunlight, vents, etc.- there aren’t many places left to put them. They just increased the lowest-price plan from $14.99 to $17.99 a month- a 20% bump. No rhyme or reason; the (mostly automated) 24/7 monitoring wouldn’t result in significant wage overhead. Nor are supply chain woes or material costs relevant since the sensors are sold separately. Nope, this looks like a good old-fashioned cash grab because they know their customers are unlikely to replace their entire security system. Update 2022/11/17: Ugh… motion sensors are getting triggered again even though nothing significant has changed. If you have pets of any size just don’t bother with motion sensors.

> 3 dayOnce I got past issues with my Wi-Fi/connecting it, everything else was simple. I seem to have problems connecting non phones/computers to my Wi-Fi. I do plan to get more window units tho connect tho my system, but this is such a good starting point! I could do it myself, and thats a plus

> 3 dayI have a hard wired system. One zones contact is faulty and was tripping the siren, so I bypassed it. My alarm company needed to come inside, which I wouldn.t allow at this time, although I offered them easy access to the contact. Then a second zone had a faulty contact, tripping the siren, and the alarm company did not call me back after I left a rather frantic message Now, I am bypassing two zones. . Both siren episodes happened at night during sleep. The siren is outrageously loud. Decided to get this system, which arrived in one day, to protect the two zones. Setting up is not hard at all. There is a countdown if you accidentally open a door or window accidentally, if armed. Something that I have not seen mentioned; I called customer service twice with some questions, and got prompt pickups, and great help. My experience has been very good thus far, and I am less dependent on my hard wired alarm company. If more hard wired sensors dont perform, I can add sensors to this product as necessary.

> 3 dayIt broke after 2 months while I was out of town. Multiple false alarm police dispatches. My housekeeper was on the phone with SimpliSafe tech support for an hour. Conclusion- failed part which they refused to overnight. Jonathan Sacks CEO PharmAdva

> 3 daySETUP IMPROVEMENTS -Computer no longer needed for adding sensors. -Sensors can be named now. You can easily pick from a common named list or key in the name you want. The old system did have a way to name them, but it was limited to premium plans. -Test buttons can be pushed to add sensors rather than manually typing in serial numbers for each sensor. KEYPAD Keypad setup is the biggest improvement in the system. The old system required a computer setup that utilized a USB fob for programming and transferring the data to the base station. The fob is now gone from the setup. All the setup for the sensors can be done directly from the keypad. The key pad also has an panic button added to the top of it. The keypad doesnt have a touch screen, but it has a button at each side to make for more intuitive user navigation through the prompts. The sensor names now display when they are triggered. The old system only displayed the serial numbers which I found aggravating. This is one of my favorite improvements. SENSORS The sensors are much smaller which I think is important to people. I know I was talking to a guy that bought a competing product a couple years ago instead of the previous version of SimpliSafe solely on the fact that he didnt like the size of the SimpliSafe Sensors. These are a great improvement. BATTERIES -The base station uses A/C power, but has a AA batteries for a backup during power loss. Same as old system. -The keypad uses AA batteries. Same as old system. -Motion Sensor CR123A batteries (camera battery). Same as old system. -Entry sensors use CR2032 batteries (size of Nickel). These used to be CR123A batteries in the old system. This change has allowed the sensors to be much smaller. Im usually able to find these Nickel sized batteries cheaper than the camera batteries which is a nice change as well. Im not sure if there is any loss in the amount of time they will last though.
