> 3 dayI have a ton of games in my collection...60 or 70 Id say. Always play them with my wife. We tend to like games that are fun for both of us but not confrontational enough that someone feels bad when they lose. We also dont like games that are super long and heavy. This game is perfect for us. In fact, it might be the best game we own. Its quick, fun, economic, has a little bit of interaction, and the build quality is excellent. If I could only keep a handful of my games this would definitely be one of them. The only issue I have is that its really easy to get enough points to end the game and you dont realize it. You just play along and then both of you count your points and realize the game was over a long time ago. Other games that have a similar feel: Targi, Jaipur, Ticket To Ride Nordic, maybe Rivals for Catan.

> 3 dayMaybe I came late to the board game party, but my family has embraced game night! We like to play a board game at least once a week. We picked up splendor on a friends recommendation and it is one of our favorites. It is pretty simple to learn, fast paced or leisurely as you desire, requires some strategy and some luck, and provides hours of repeat play. The game is well packaged, unpacks and stores easily, and doesnt require a lot of space. For you hard core gamers, I found a gaming mat I printed out and laminated that helps lay out the game, but you dont have to have this at all!

> 3 dayWhile I was concerned it might be a bit too dry to have staying power, Splendor has turned into a staple filler (i.e. less than 20 minute) and gateway game. While its a bit pricey for what it is, the pleasure of the solid poker-style chips tends to make up for that. The game can be taught in two minutes and works just as well with 2,3 or 4 players, though weve noticed it can become much more tactical with 2 players. The object of the game is to collect the most valuable set of gems/mines/production cards. The game ends on any round that a player hits 15 points, but with each player getting an equal number of turns, the player that triggers the end, may not be the winner. A players turn is simple. They have three choices: 1) Collect different colored chips 2) Use chips to purchase cards or 3) Reserve a card for future purchase and gain a wild card chip. The cards represent the different stages of the gem production process with more expensive cards being worth more points. You can then use collected cards to replace chips when purchasing future cards. Its also possible to gain more points by currying favor with special royalty figures. You do this by collecting specific combinations of cards.

Greater than one weekI love how easy this game is to set up and start playing. It’s super easy to learn that even my eight-year-old plays and it enjoys very very much. It’s simple and can be played quickly. Also, it’s visually amazing. We play this game at least twice a week. All the cards and materials are very sturdy. The tokens and people cards are made with very great quality and the resource cards are so pretty to look at. I would buy an expansion pack of this game!

> 3 daySplendor is a great game, just as fun with two players as four. The learning curve isnt too steep, and with the constantly shifting bonus tiles, no two games are ever quite the same. Also, this new publication of the game is high quality, with weighted, detailed poker chips and sturdy cards. Theyve gone back to the quality of the first edition of the game, which is wonderful!

> 3 dayIve really enjoyed this game. I bought it as a gift for a family member and its become a favorite of ours. The basic concept and turn options are quick to learn. Strategy take a little longer and changes based on the number of players (2 vs. 4 players). An easy win for game enthusiasts.

> 3 dayWe played it at my MIL house first. Loved it and bought it for my family. Everyone who has played it from my 7 yr old son to my older 60 yr old in laws really like this game. Were a card/board games playing family, so this review isnt from someone that just plays casually.

> 3 dayThis game was a spontaneous purchase for me but my friends and I enjoyed it right away. Ive played probably half a dozen games in the couple months Ive owned it. We even gave it a go with just two players and found it scaled down very nicely. One thing that did hinder our first couple games was the instructions werent that well written. However, we got the gist of things and realized that the purchased cards counted towards your resources and made things in the 3rd tier possible [we originally thought it was a typo that something required 7 of something]. All in all - the game played well and tested our strategy skills a little trying to out-maneuver our peers. The game cards/tiles themselves are solidly made and the plastic chips have quite a bit of heft (which makes for some intense noises when your opponent slams their chips down to claim a card you had your eye on). I did like the artwork style, and would love to see more cards made in an expansion pack of some sort. As far as long term replayability, there is indeed a fair amount of randomness in the card draws as well as what your peers will do which helps with bringing us back to play this again. It also depends on the people you play with, beware of those sneaky players who lie in wait and then steamroll you at the end.
