Stanwood Needlecraft Large Metal Yarn/Fiber/Wool/String Ball Winder - 10 oz

I hemmed and hawed about paying this much for a ball winder, but it really is great. the arm nearest the spindle also spins so it winds 2x as fast.

I dont know how loud the all-metal one is, but it must be a monster because this one is supposed to be quieter and is still crazy loud. I usually wait until the dishwasher is going to use it so the noise blends in.

Ive been stumbling along with one of the smaller (and less than effective) ball winders for awhile now. My husband, who had to help me when that small winder failed again and again, gave me this fantastic winder as a birthday present. I love it! Its larger format means that I never overflow the capacity, and the sturdy structure is just as solid as can be! This is well worth whatever price he paid (I actually saw the price later, but still feel that way ;-)

Why did I wait this long to buy one? This is a solid and durable tool that I use often. I know it will last for many years.

Another fabulous product. Very substantial. The nylon gearing is working out fine. Rolls really nice center pull balls quickly. A joy to use. It is a bit bulky to store because I dont remove the yarn guide.

This ball winder is AMAZING! I have broken 2 smaller winders previously and was getting really frustrated when I decided to invest in this much higher quality tool. I wind miles and miles of yarn, so it is worth it to me to have a smooth winding action and to NOT have tangles and mistakes. The gears make it so quiet and I love that it can handle larger quantities of yarn without having to break it up into more than one cake. An excellent product, and I would highly recommend it for the serious crafter who winds a moderate to large quantity of yarn on a regular basis.

Great for skeins of yarn particularly wst wt or bulky, dont think it would work with fine yarns or balls of yarn.

I chose this one after reading the reviews. I thought all winders were the same size, so when I saw 10oz rather than 4oz, I had to read farther. Im glad I did! I like to use big skeins and bulky yarns and while I have been doing the center pull thing, it reaches a point where you have to untangle the last wad of yarn. I ordered it Friday morning and received it Saturday afternoon. That was fast even for Amazon! Its now Sunday evening and I just got done playing with it. I like the hand crank better than electric winders (I have one and do not like it, but at least I used a 40% Joannes coupon) because you have better control of the speed. Well worth the money and I will recommend it to anyone.
