Yes, it costs more than other yarn winders on the market, but its a better product than any of them by a long shot. The rotating metal arm ensures that tension is even and helps in the creation of consistently uniform yarn cakes. The 10 oz capacity is great; sure, it might not be enough for you to, for instance, cake a new skein of Bernat blanket yarn, but for most yarn you can transform new skeins to cakes right away.

First let me say never, ever buy a Boye Electric Ball Winder. I did much to my regret as it died after winding 6 balls. Since I didnt use it every day I lost the ability to return it. On the other hand this one arrived yesterday afternoon and Ive already wound 4 perfect cakes of yarn. Normally I dont wind all of my yarn, but my WIP is a striped baby blanket. I was worried that it would not clamp onto my table, which is made out of butcher block, but the clamp goes to 2 1/2 inches.

Love this large winder. Easy to use, makes perfect center pull cakes. Don’t know how I’ve lived without it!

Another fabulous product. Very substantial. The nylon gearing is working out fine. Rolls really nice center pull balls quickly. A joy to use. It is a bit bulky to store because I dont remove the yarn guide.

Oh my goodness! Id been eyeing a yarn holder like the one my best friend has had for the past few years. Shes used it for winding hundreds of balls for herself and many for me. The cost for that winder is $175, a true luxury buy for me, and unjustifiable on my budget. Ive tried various winders that were more in my price range from local craft stores and always returned them. In addition to the cheapness of the winders, they did a poor job of winding. I received my Stanwood Needlecraft Large Metal Yarn Winder today. I am very impressed! I have already used it to wind two big balls and it did a fantastic job. It created the same quality ball that my friends $175 winder made and appears to be made of quality materials. It has a nice, solid feel and smooth action. I have no regrets on this purchase whatsoever!

The best sturdy investment I have made. Easy to set up, sturdy and fun to use. I just received this in the mail and so far I have used this 10 hours straight. I gathered all my partial yarn and started winding. This defiantly helps with space saving.

I picked this large yarn winder because of its metal components and Im glad I did. Other ball winders that I had researched had to many plastic parts, and we all know what happens to plastic after a while. It was very easy to set-up and its very easy to use, Im glad I took my time and did my research. Very happy with my purchase.
