Strathmore 460-55 400 Series Visual Watercolor Journal, 140 LB Cold Press, 5.5x8, 22 Sheets , White

I took this watercolor sketch pad on a 5 week trip to France and carried it in my backpack everywhere so that I could pull it out to sketch at anytime. I was very happy with the hard cardboard covers on the front and back, and the good quality of the paper for taking pencil, ink and watercolor. The paper is heavy enough where it didnt buckle too badly, and once it dried I simply closed it each night and set a heavy book on top to flatten the pages. The paper took the watercolor very nicely, and despite being carried in my pack constantly while hiking and bicycling, the sketchpad held up very well and my paintings/sketches survived in excellent condition.

I know little of art, but my childrens art teacher loved this product so much that she asked me where I got it from so that she could purchase a few. Paper is very nice. Spiral is of great quality.

Paper does not evenly absorb water/paint! Water color is my medium.

I was happily surprised to find a sturdy cover under the decorative Visual Journaling cover. The paper is just ok. I like Strathmore products. I love their mixed media line. I thought this paper would be a bit more like that, but it is thinner. It curls and buckles eagerly and retains it after drying. Maybe a gesso prep on the pages? Seems not great to have to bother. Not a true mixed media pad unless it is only very dry materials. Texture is nice for dry work. Not toothy, almost not smooth either.

Perfect, arrived in perfect condition and just begging me to start pouring life into it. This is my first visual journal and cant wait to see how it turns out.

A nice journal for my use. Like the weight of the paper and it lays flat although the spiral binding is bulky. Im used to flat binding but the journal will be a good travel piece. Like that the cover page can be removed and a nice brown cover remains.
