> 3 dayThe fan is quiet and fairly good at generating an exhaust while it is superior at an intake of air. The remote works adequately well and is certainly not to large. I prefer to use the control on the console. The device can fit well, though it would be better if the blocks intended for use in filling out the window size were a bit more clear in the directions for their configuration. My suspicion is that those who report that there is a bad fit of these blocks have inserted them upside down or backwards, which is easy to do. A top arrow on the inner aspect (or the outer if people do not want to see an arrow) would be an assist so long as the package was clear on which side that arrow should face relative to the fan front. Beyond that, there is a consideration of use for these devices in a more temperate climate. The only thing near as bad that I can imagine for use of a fan such as this beyond a failed function altogether is the need to remove and replace the fan on a seasonal basis. The work involved in replacement and removal and the possible damage in storage are less than seasonal placement of a window air conditioner, but is still bad. I might have hoped that the company could have a fit face-plate available to act to cut any passive flow of cold air to the interior when the weather was inclement. If fitted with some foam and arranged to clip to the front as an add on accessory, this could allow the device to sit in place during colder periods without a need to remove and reinsert. I have made a rubber sheet shade to fit the front of the device with a cloth backing and fixed it to serve this function myself and the seal is very acceptable to make the device more appropriate for when a temperature plunge might occur. Given the nature of the volatility of weather fronts lately, a device like this could be useful to allow the device to be more serviceable, even if a temperature in South Carolina or Texas might plunge for a few days in an area unaccustomed to the alteration. Such events are far from unknown and the device left in place could make its locale in the house uncomfortably cold for a few days or require removal and replacement in a matter of a few days with marked inconvenience. Thought could be made for this simple fix.

> 3 day1st off, a warning that this fan is designed for a window with a low lower lip (.25 to .50). I have double hung windows with a 1.25 inside lower lip and I ended up having to build a bracket to properly install the unit. That said, once installed, it works great. Its quiet, even on its highest setting. I installed the unit on window for a combined living room open walk thru to kitchen; 28 from window to end wall of kitchen. At its top setting, I can feel air movement at 20 from the window and was able to lower the temp in the two combined rooms several degrees F° in about 1.5 hrs. The remote is simple and easy to use, but is tiny and could be lost easy; put it somewhere you know you can find it. It was worth the cost and I do recommend it if you need something to vent a full room. Just check your window sills carefully before buying to avoid frustration.

> 3 dayContrary to what some reviewers claim, this fan absolutely works with screened windows. It is super easy to install and works well - we have one in our master bedroom and it pulls a nice breeze through. I only wish it offered a higher volume of air (more CFM), and were Alexa-compatible. I see that there was a smart variant of this fan available from Vornado and I hope they bring it back. However it isnt perfect; the power cable comes out of the chassis at the bottom of the unit and interferes with the mounting pad, so you need to resort to crushing the cable. I suspect that after a sufficiently large number of install/removal cycles this does present a risk of short and possible fire hazard. The exit point for the power cord really should be moved completely away from the mounting pad. I am deducting two stars for this because there will inevitably be some person who will not notice this issue and will sever the cord causing a short in their house. This is a design and manufacturing flaw which should by all rights result in a recall of this fan. Since I am aware of the issue and take care to hold the cord out of the way and will drill a new hole and reroute the cord if/when the insulation starts to show signs of fatigue/wear, I am comfortable using the fan, but many people would never even notice the cord is being stressed at the mounting pad on the sash, and run into problems.

Greater than one weekremote battery failed after 2 days- i replaced it. other than that its a nice fan, Quiet. can suck outside air in or blow inside air out with just a touch. Can be placed in and out of the window easily. the blocks that come with it are weird. they dont snap together or anything. I just used cardboard to block the rest of the window.

Greater than one weekI bought my daughter one last year, and she loves it, so i got myself one this year. With rising electricity costs, I need something for summer nights, to use AC way less . It is quiet and works sufficient for my nighttime cooling needs( at least until we hit triple digits in So Cal :-))

> 3 dayI was afraid of getting this unit and having to return it based on other reviews, but my fears were unfounded. Installation was so smooth, quick and easy. The unit works silently, and uses so little power that I have it running 24 hours a day. Its been raining a lot in CA, but my unit fits behind the screen, and there is no evidence of any water coming in while still running all day and night. The only problem may be that the thermostat does not go below 60 degrees and it has been a lot colder that that, so I just leave it on manual so it runs all the time. I am very pleased and happy with this unit.

> 3 dayI tried both android&ios no joy. AE is not worth the extra money. The insulation foam blocks dont squish enough to fit in the groove of the window. But they can be trimmed with a sharp blade painfully bit by bit The fan itself is as quiet as a bathroom fan.

> 3 dayMy number one priority, in purchasing a window fan, was to get something QUIET. I had spent more money than I would have liked purchasing the traditional two fan window units that are so common today. Based on the promise and supporting reviews that they were very quiet fans, I purchased both a popular Bionaire and a Holmes fan. They were ok, but not nearly good enough. I wanted a fan as quiet as my ceiling fan on low and those two weren’t even in the ballpark. So through more searching, I eventually landed on the Vornado Transom. It’s not a traditional fan by any stretch of the imagination, but a few people said it was extremely quiet. Desperate to find something quieter than the others, I placed my bet. This fan is ACTUALLY quiet! On it’s lowest setting, it is a whisper compared to the other two. No, it’s not ceiling fan quiet, but I would compare it to the sound I’d hear coming through the vent when my central air is running. That’s pretty quiet! On high, yes the fan is much more noisy, but it moves a lot more air when on high. To be clear, low speed moves plenty of air, and high speed is not more noisy than the other models on high. Another difference between the Vornado and the other models, is the the fan speeds are SIGNIFICANTLY different. The difference between low and high on the other models is marginal at best. With the Vornado, low is ACTUALLY low… and high is ACTUALLY high. So you can choose between a quiet fan that gives you a nice breeze, or a noisy fan that moves air with quite a bit of force. Again, this unit on high was about as noisy as the other fans on high. On low, there is no contest. Do you get what I’m saying yet? THIS FAN IS VERY QUIET… MUCH quieter than any other window fan I’ve tried. So that’s the big sell for me. Other good features: The temperature selection works well. I set it up for 70 degrees, and it effectively turned on and off as necessary to bring in the cooler outside air. Since I keep the fan on low, I barely noticed when it turned on and off at all. This fan also gives you great privacy because you can’t see through it whether it’s on or off. A couple of not so great things about it... First, the foam blocks are not great. I needed an additional block that was 1/4 inch wide… I either had to try and squish a 1 inch block in that space (nope) or use something else to seal it. Vornado should rethink this strategy or include 1/2 and 1/4 inch blocks too. Considering the high quality construction of the unit, and the steeper price tag, Vornado should come up with something more eloquent. Secondly, the remote isn’t wonderful. You have to aim it DIRECTLY at the unit while you are DIRECTLY in front of it. And the range of the remote seems to be a pitiful 15 feet or so. I don’t know if that’s typical of this unit, but it’s definitely not great. Despite those two shortcomings, I still give the unit 5 stars based on its EXTREMELY LOW noise level given the decent amount of air it moves. If I ever need an additional window fan, this is the one I’ll get.

> 3 dayI bought this about 2 years ago and its still going strong. My upstairs neighbors would always smoke cigarettes, marijuana, and other chemicals that would seep into and stink up my small apartment and make me nauseous. I would try opening all my windows, sealing vents, and running fans, but it never helped. After researching net airflow, it seemed that my apartment always had a negative airflow and was more likey to attract air. I figured that maybe I need a good intake fan to create a positive airflow. I bought this without checking dimensions carefully, but it wedges perfectly in a vertical orientation one of my windows (after modifying the adhesive foam strip location). I know the vertical orientation is supposedly not supported, but all the windows here slide horizontally. After two years, the intake mode is still able to create a strong positive air flow that completely keeps the smelly neighbor fumes out.
