> 3 dayI just got one of these from Microcenter, and it did its own setup process without needing to connect to anything at all. I used the USB cable to connect it to my Linux PC (Ubuntu 22.4.01) and it just worked. No phone app to harvest my personal info, no driver or firmware issues, no mandatory internet connection, just easy printing. It did not come with the necessary USB cable though, that had to be bought separately. You need, specifically, USB Type A (male) to USB Type B (male) to connect this printer to a PC USB port.

> 3 dayWhy did this company make a printer with the difficulty of shutting it down? Every printer i used or sold was simple,. Press the on/off button. But this printer requires two buttons. Very strange indeed.

> 3 dayThe printer was decent quality for the money but you will not be able to replace the black ink cartridge. The black ink hasnt been available for at least 6 months, rendering the printer USELESS as far as Im concerned. Brother is aware of black inks scarcity (as is Amazon) but doesnt warn innocent buyers about it, and keeps insisting that all I need to do is be patient and check stores and websites DAILY! Technically, you could get a new black ink cartridge IF you bought a pack of all four colors. But thats not only a waste of money -- it defeats the. purpose of an inkjet printer with individually replaceable ink colors. I dont see how Brother, Amazon, or any store - online or otherwise - gets away with selling these printers knowing that replacement black ink is not separately available. Oh ,and FYI Brother customer service (this is my second Brother printer) is (as it was for the first one) USELESS. Twice-burned, Im done with Brother and now moving on to Epson.

Greater than one weekThe Brother mfc-j1010dw The most unintuitive printer and the most difficult to learn of all the printers I have had. I consider myself an experienced user having had printers on networks or on PCs for about 40 years . I’ve had several brother printers and decided that the reviews warranted this particular model. It was very inexpensive and I’m sorry I paid even that low amount. If you are a casual user, do not buy this machine as you will get very frustrated. Frequent users can probably learn their way around. I just received a message on the printer that the EZ print subscription needs re-ordering. I don’t have the EZ subscription and found it difficult to eliminate the message. This is a Brother marketing ploy. With the message still on I was unable to print. I finally looked online and found how to erase it in order to continue printing.

> 3 dayThis printer beeps every 15 seconds saying you need to enter a password to get a firmware update. Will it catch fire if no firmware update? How irritating. Then after Googling how to enter the password, it turns out the super secure password is printed on the back of the printer. The interface to enter the password is terrible. Press one wrong button and you start from scratch. Who thought this security scheme up?
