    The kit works exactly as advertised but the instuctions arent very good. It recommends using an air ratchet to both drill/tap the hole and thats bad advice. You should use a nice cordless drill to drill the hole going as slow as possible to avoid generating heat. When tapping you should use a ratchet by hand going slow and steady. Coating the tap with grease will make a cleaner cut and will help remove shavings. Use a good brake cleaner to clean the threads and a really strong air nozzle that will go down into the cylinder to blow the rest out. As mentioned the tool for checking if the valves are closed has a non-standard tip that doesnt fit any known air hose plus the fitting is smaller than a standard tip so you have to reduce the size to fit a standard size. Make sure to get the 5000lbs. JB Weld staying away from the quick set variety. I let mine sit for 24hrs before cranking and so far so good.

    I do want to say this is an excellent kit for permanently fixing these 2v Triton blowouts. However- I am terribly dissapointed that the manufacturer is still using an air connection that is not compatible with anything! The reamer, tap, guide, and inserts seemed to be of good quality, but the cylinder leakdown tool is terrible. They use some kind of off-shore obscure air coupler screwed into an 1/8 npt valve with a rubber hose pressed over 1/8 NPT threads on the other side. My recommended fix: trash the 1/8 valve/coupler- add a cheap, standard blow nozzle with 1/8 NPT hose barb in place and connect to existing rubber hose/cork.

    At first I was a little skeptical, but once receiving the cal-van kit, I could see that it was definitely top-notch. I watched several YouTube videos on installation as well as the one provided by the company before installation . As you can see from the pictures, the original helicoil is on the left of the spark plug and the new cal-van insert is on the right ( its upside down on purpose and was installed the other way) you could see a huge difference in the quality and size. You can also see on the second picture that there is a chunk of head missing from the spark plug hole. That is my own fault due to installing two helicoils on top of each other. Unlike helicoil, the new calvan insert becomes one with the head using JB weld ( instructions state using JB weld . I have repaired and driven my F-150 5.4 l for approximately a month with no issues. It currently has 231,000 miles on it. I highly recommend this kit if you have a blown spark plug. Stay away from helicoils!
