17-11-2024The first time the plug blew out (2011 CVPI, 4.6L V8), I repaired with a heli-coil, which lasted about a year, then blew out again. The Cal-Van insert system is not only easier to install, but I expect the repair to be permanent this time. Well worth the added expense. The reason I rated the instructions at 4 stars is because they are so small, I could hardly read them or see the pictures. There are excellent videos on YouTube that show how to install the inserts. FordTechMakuloco is highly recommended.

> 3 dayThis is a quality tool and does what most other inserts wont. the tool trucks sell the exact kit with their name printed on it for almost twice the price. I am a repair shop owner and longtime mechanic and have used this kit twice since my purchase and it has worked perfectly. If you are dealing with a previous insert that has blown out then you need this kit to fix it right. Take your time and follow the instructions and youll be back on the road with confidence.

> 3 dayFollow the video! Hardest part was clearing the crap blocking the spark plug hole. Lots of blowing and rinsing to get all the chips out.

Greater than one weekIt could use a couple eclips and a way to better pull the guide, which has to be tapped in with a mallet. Removal is tough for that same reason. However best inserts around and includes a reamer instead of a drill bit.

Greater than one weekI had a broken plug in a Triton 2v head. Before using this tool, I used a 1/2 inch drill bit down the guide to cut out the plug shell after knocking the porcelin and electrode out. After that, the kit worked great, the whole job took an hour. Just be sure to used a magnet to get the shell shavings out of the cylinder after turning the piston to the bottom of the bore. Of course, blow the cylinder out a lot first. The steel shavings wont blow out, but a magnet on a stick will get them all.
