Ive been using this bit for around year, helping me make some modern trim for my house. It works well, has held a scary sharp edge after routing a couple hundred feet of poplar.

Arrived loose in its case. The case is yellowed thin plastic. Hot wheels cars come un better packaging. This looks like its straight out of the 90s. Disappointed because I keep my bits in their cases when not in use. I will not be able to do that with this one. For the price I would expect it to arrive like every other Freud bit I have purchased in a nice hard plastic case that keeps it secure and make it easy to store.

Not like the picture! The picture shows a bit with matching diameter shank AND bearing (1/2). What you get is a 1/2 shank bit, mated with a ridiculously tiny 3/8 bearing. Bearing only has about 3/32 of vertical stock-riding surface, and sits about 1/8 above the flutes. So, youre flirting with disaster if the remaining stock is 1/4 or less below the flutes, youre likely to get more chatter/bumps due to the tiny bearing, and youre likely to get a groove burnished into the edge of the work (especially with softer woods) from the miniscule bearing-contact patch. All of which couldve been avoided if the bit were made to accept a 1/2 bearing of decent width. Because the top of the flutes are ground to fit the 3/8 bearing diameter, If you try to fit a 1/2 bearing to the bit, it lowers the initial contact point on the flutes to about 3/16 below the bearing. The only 1/2 shank, 1/2 bearing, 45 degree chamfer option Freud has necessitates a 2 1/2 throat diameter. I own a lot of Freud products, very disappointed with this one. Come on Freud, make it like the picture, WITH A 1/2 BEARING, sitting 1/32-1/16 above the flutes!

I bought this bit to profile the tops of a half dozen cherry nightstands. The bit arrived quickly and performed well. I have quite a few Freud bits and havent had an issue with any of them.

    Freud makes great router bits.

1-5/8" (Dia.) Chamfer Bit with 1/2" Shank

From the Manufacturer

Freud"s precision ground carbide bits have a grain size smaller than other grades, and titanium is added making them impervious to chemical attack. Promoting safer woodworking is the reason Freud made a commitment to develop anti-kickback router bits. Bits are computer balanced to insure vibration-free operation at speeds that are a safe margin above the typical 22,000 RPMs of most routers. Freud"s philosophy is woodworkers should expect safety, not pay for it. Carbide length 5/8-inch, angle 45-degrees, shank diameter 1/2-inch.
