Freud 40-114: 1-5/8 (Dia.) Chamfer Bit

I bought this to use in making staves for boxes but I have used it for chamfering edges of projects. It is a heavy duty router bit. Made real strong and very large bit. Works flawlessly.

I have an ever growing collection of Freud bits, blades and tools and as always, this one is awesome. I am making all my trim in my house out of black ash and Im using this bit for the edges. It is the first chamfer bit that ive used that didnt burn at all on end grain.

I am a hobbyist woodworker and build the occasional cutting board. Instead of handles I sometimes chamfer the bottom edges with this bit. I have numerous other Freud bits and just like those this bit does not disappoint either. Since I only use it sparingly I expect for this bit to last a really long time.

This router bit cost me more than a complete set of router bits I own. But it is worth every nickel of the cost. I have used it many times, already, and it hasnt shown the slightest wear. And it cuts with precision. No wood burn and no broken fibers or splinters of wood after the cut. I am now replacing all my router bits and table saw blades with Freud products.

The bit is excellent quality as are all Freud router bits (and blades). The problem (for me) is that I needed a bit that would cut 3/4 stock. This bit will not do that. It cuts 5/8 or maybe 11/16, but not 3/4 and certainly not 1 stock. caveat emptor.

I am rather new to woodworking after having not done very much in a number of years. Im amazed at the new tools and products that are making it easier to accomplish tasks much faster with better results that the old ways. Freud has always crafted quality tools and this one is no exception. Fast, sharp and easy to use bit. Glad Im spending the extra cash instead of trying to make an inferior bit work. Will keep buying the Freud bits one or two at a time until I get a complete set together. VERY HAPPY!!

We wanted to install our new vessel sink sunk part way into the countertop so that it wasnt too tall. This bit made a perfect angled lip in the countertop so there was a nice, wide contact zone for the caulking to adhere between the bowl and the counter.

This bit is exactly what I needed to create a 15 degree angle for making my Adirondack chairs. It’s much easier than using a jigsaw!!

Good finish on a1/2 Chamfer cut. It is a Freud bit and was delivered on time and in excellent condition. It was exactly what I needed.
