> 24 hourI recently got this ball winder as a replacement for my second ball winder. The first two I had were mostly plastic and both had failed on me due to the plastic construction, When I saw this one, the fact that it was mostly metal was what caught my attention. The price was in the ballpark of the latest dead ball winder, so I went for it.

> 24 hourBought two other winders and they were too small and wimpy. This can make a cake from your skin in no time!

> 24 hourIt takes me less than 2 minutes to wind a skein of yarn….I use a lot of yarn…it is well worth the price and saves me a ton of time! I highly recommend this product!!

> 24 hourI bought another winder first and gave it away. This one is so much sturdier and seems to hold up well. I wonder why it made a little snappy noise at first, not annoying, just there. Then I found a small piece of the packaging plastic caught inside the wheel. After taking that out, It was very quiet. I do like the soft sound of the gears, it is relaxing. I only found one problem and it may not be a problem, actually. The smaller gear got some kind of oily substance on it and between the gear and the nut. I do not know what this is, but it hasnt affected the working and it doesnt get on the yarn. I will just watch it and clean it off. Or maybe it is supposed to be there to keep the gears running smooth?!

> 24 hourThis is spendy, so I was really apprehensive about it, but Im ultimately very happy with this purchase! Its really nicely made and a good weight, much different than the < $35 options. Most winders rotate the spindle, this winder rotates the metal arm, so it wraps the yarn around the spindle and doesnt cause any pull or stretch with the yarn, I love that! Additional pros: It can easily handle 10oz, and it would likely work best with a yarn swift--if your yarn isnt loose (ie: if youre re-rolling a commercial yarn roll) it may cause too much tension in the yarn, so simply unwrapping a little yarn at a time helps for a better yarn ball.

> 24 hourFor the last 4 years I’ve been using a cheap plastic yarn winder that creaked, cracked, and moaned. It finally broke and I received many recommendations for the Stanwood. I am so happy with this purchase, it creates beautiful cakes of yarn with very little effort. It is beautifully made and I have used to it wind 420 yd skeins of fingering weight all the way to 110yds of bulky weight. It was a little bit of an adjustment to get started, but the ease at it which it winds makes it simple to use. The gears are exposed, so if you are a bit overzealous winding at the end of the skein, the tail can get tangled, but you just reverse the handle and it comes out. I would highly recommend and would buy it again.
